excellent video all around - thanks! one thought is maybe leave the strings on and hold them while you drill the pilot holes, then remove the strings. ✌🏽
I just through out my entertainment center and built my 55 inch TV and game console stand out of this stuff mounted to the wall. It is a little spending but it's solid, looks cool and freed up lots of space. Plus you can easily add as much as you want. Do not use wood screws to secure to the wall. I used metal screws and works perfect.that board behind the sheet rock is a good idea.👍👍👍
I am so grateful for DIY RU-vidrs. They are a steady source of business for us. You would be amazed how many people try to fix basic issues and fail spectacularly. To fix the issue you were trying to address we would open the wall cavity and instal blocking. In total it would take a minute or so to cut the drywall. Another couple minutes to cut the blocking to size. Then repair the drywall and paint. The longest portion of time would be waiting for the compound, texture and paint to dry. Once it’s dry you are good to go forever. If you change the type of holder it doesn’t matter. You now have a solid block of wood behind it. Towel racks, wall hanging tvs, kitchen cabinets, stair railing, is all done the same way.
Good for you I guess. I won’t argue that blocking is stronger. But the average homeowner doesn’t know how to repair drywall and texture. (At least not if they want it to match) So the step in your process, “then repair drywall and paint” is much easier said than done. Either way, glad to help out your business.
Mount black Iron pipe flange to tile wall without drilling. Use PC-7 (highway reflector) epoxy. The thick, dark Grey epoxy putty can even be formed so that the excess which extrudes through the screw holes can be impressed with a flathead screw driver to mimic a round screw head. Use to attach anything to anything. PC-7 can be used to replace missing metal parts (like a broken hose Bib valve knurl) or used to reinforce screw on pvc fittings so they don't Crack. PC-7 (grey) PC-11 (white "marine") can even repair fuel tanks. Most versatile epoxy you'll ever use. It's like a metal putty with crazy adhesive properties. Comes in 35mm film canister size to gallons. Never drill into tile (or glass) again. Fake it with PC-7 it will be stronger but don't think about ever removing it without replacing the tile
I thought of doing that originally, but the drywall was already too compromised, having drywall anchors installed from the original TP holder. I’m a big fan of the screw in style drywall anchors and I use them often. But they weren’t right for this particular application. Getting wood behind is substantially stronger. Thanks for watching!
I agree. If you are going to use 4 screws, you might as well use anchors or toggle bolts. You can turn the flange 45 degrees so there is uncompromised drywall for the toggle bolts or self-drilling drywall anchors. 4 of them will be very strong, as they offer support in 4 directions. Using wood strips, I'd be too afraid the glue will not hold for a long time. Also, the wood wasn't very thick for the screws to bite into, certainly not as deep as drywall anchors that really hold a screw well.
Would this application be strong enough for a hand towel rack?? I have no studs there either. Thank you. BTW, what about a ceiling mounted pipe shelf?? Could I do this too? My house is old but I bought it 5 years ago and as I've needed projects along the way, i've noticed a lot of shoddy work when it came to spacing the studs. Thank you!
