Last month we travelled to Japan to race the STY a 72km ultra-trail race around Mt. Fuji (part of the iconic UTMF). A couple of days after the race, I headed for the summit!

The world is a beautiful place, sure not every run I have is like this either so I am always overwhelmed when I can take on and explore such wide open and huge mountains! I hope you can take your running to the trails soon :-)

Amazing achievement! I wanna do this but not sure how fit I would need to be. What are your marathon and half marathons like? The altitude must be killer too.

That would have been fun for sure! I am far too clumsy for that and I certainly had far too much fun running full speed down a 3,000m+ mountain :-)

What did you carry in your vest? I would bring Water, energy bars, Dry fruit, I heard there's places along the way where you can stop if you need.

There are plenty of huts to stop at on the trip up. Sure, cash is lighter than water... but that water is expensive up there. A cup-ramen costs 600 yen. (~6$)

I bet! How many calories did you take in that day? I live in Tokyo, and want to run/hike that mountain once my achilles clears up fully. Your endurance is awe inspiring. I want to become a 14min 5K guy like you too. Do you still have that speed with all these ultras?
@HarryRunsUK
@HarryRunsUK 7 лет назад
I have no idea as we were travelling for a lot of the day and eating out. Yes certainly let your achilles strengthen up before any major mountain adventures. Lots of eccentric heel drops will help. Yes still have the speed on fresh legs, not quite the same as my middle distance days but its there after a few speed sessions to blow away any ultra cobwebs haha
