I thought the test videos were extremely well done showing the process of getting the job done, rather than just the end result. Shame that Jim was injured but it was all calculated and people get bucked on multiple occasions in multiple events. Is the wall ride going to be removed after 1 rider blew out the top? They are all extreme riders doing extreme things on bikes and hats off to them. Great discussion chaps

Who am I to tell the best riders in the world what to jump and what not to? But I most certainly don't want anyone to get peer pressured into doing this and die or get severely injured. And I want the features to be built as safe and well working as possible. So I think RB made the right call to get this jump back to the drawing board. Next time!
@bigPPliam

Im pretty sure Bernard said they removed it because they didn't have the safety net. Redbull have dropped someone out of space they 100% would have ran it if they thought it was safe. someone getting injured on it wouldn't impact them or the event massively in the long run as its the riders choice if they ride it and if it wasn't safe the testers would of ruled it out. had nothing to do with negative social media interactions.

This.
@FireLysm
@FireLysm 24 дня назад
That's not true. Amaury got injured on UCI track because they were reckless with the standards, and they were called out for the sustained injuries. Same would happen to RedBull if they would approve ride or die situations like this and no it can't be just riders choice. It's testers choice indeed, but not riders.
@dfiler2

It is a good jump for the race but I agree with the decision to remove it this year. No need to rush things since testing showed a need for change. The changes were completed but still, with some more time it will be more dialed and appropriate. I can't wait to see it next year! I'm betting it will be the easiest jump on the course and the scaffolding will be covered with black tarps to make it visually appealing as well. Maybe a net too. These guys no what they're doing.
@jasonmayne2220
@jasonmayne2220 24 дня назад
It was already covered in Camo tarp and didn't look out of place at all, just unfortunate that everyone lost their minds about it having a load of scaffolding for some reason. Mad jump but realistically, you would have had to seriously mess it up to fall down the canyon as Jim proved when he flew across it and landed nicer than if he'd stacked it on one of the other mental features

Nothing to do with it being ‘2024’d’, event organisers owe a duty to all those that participate in these events. Yes, of course riders can injure themselves at any point on the course, however, in comparison with the other jumps and gaps this one would have caused serious injury or worse if a rider didn’t make it across. This would have much more detrimental impact on the sport than simply making the controversial decision to pull it this year. Great decision by RedBull who continue to provide us with the best in the sport, but safety must come first for all and there’s always next year to see what other safety measures can be implemented to make it a goer. But a great conversation topic nonetheless guys.

I got the impression that much of the reason the entire section was removed was a lack of time. Besides the canyon gap, there was also the hip jump that led into it that BK casually mentioned he didn't even try to ride. At that point, I'm not sure there was enough manpower available to rework that jump and do the lip changes to the canyon gap jump at the same time and be finished in time for practice. I'm sure both features will be ready for the 2025 event.

The internet that watch hardline is predominantly mountain bikers. They probably have some idea that the gap is doable. But that landing to unprotected scaf and a fair chance of rain on a wooden ramp could have fucked a lot of people ip ruining a run that could have been made safer. totally agree. we're all riders commenting . . . comments sections have an effect. the effect is hopefully that it gets rebuilt with a dirt landing in one of the wettest countries on the planet, obviously a smoother lip ...potentially a safety net but imo if you fix the lip is the net neccesary? BK thinks so, so I do too, but was BK pressured by comments sections? haha . . . You think? I've seen that jump and I went "this is not MTB, this is bullshit" and when millions of people go like this, you know something is not right. Only 1 person has to die on the hardline feature like that and hardline is done for good. Feature was catapult like, insane amount of compression and lets not talk that this area will get muddy and wet because it's a river area and it's gonna be always subpar conditions. Now imagine racing that or session that, mud on mud on mud and the fall pit will swallow one and ONE is what it takes for this event to be closed forever.

Perhaps the guy who actually built the jump realised that the angles etc... were wrong from the test runs and didnt want the be responsible for someones death. Red Bull have been the reason why all action sports have progressed to such a degree if they want to pull the brakes on for a while to reassess thats fine by me.
@redtemple8918
@redtemple8918 19 дней назад
I think the issue was it looks shoddy and unfinished, it looked like the way it was built it would be tough to adjust the radius, the landing in Tasmania was at least 3 times wider so if it was the same landing and was a full dirt landing then it would have looked far safer and more appealing. There were other comments from some of the better riders I know about the lack of remorse or accountability shown on camera for how it turned out but we all know cameras don’t share the whole story. I think it honestly comes down to the fact that if it was built to the same standard and quality as the rest of the course and things went wrong the reaction would have been completely different l, I’m sure it will make a return next year !

I'm thinking why the outcry and concern about the jump was the perceived consequences for failure were too high. It just seemed like needles danger just for spectacle. I, myself when I saw it thought, "There goes Redbull again, putting athletes at risk with an extreme spectacle just for shock and awe". We watch these events to be amazed, not to see rider's get injured or worse. As for me, my main concern was, sure 85% of the riders have no problem with the jump, but what about the 15% that aren't confident with it and don't want to do it but get peer pressured to hit it. Sure I get it. I'm just an arm chair analyst that just can't fathom doing it because it's way beyond my abilities. But you got to understand, the concern was for the safety of the riders just for spectacle. Nothing more

How many people die at the Isle of Man TT each year and that doesn't get cancelled. People need to understand this is pushing the boundaries but they defo did the right thing given the circumstances. Its even more hard-core than Rampage because in Utah you build what you want to complete your run. Hardline it's there and it's a case of ride it or don't. i don't know about 70 foots jumps over canyons. what i do know about is dodgy AF scaffolding. that in a proper industry would never be allowed to happen. then you have no safety net or any protection to the actual scaffolding. let alone the tiny magin of error for the landing. with no run-off or other safety measurs for missed landing. yes i know it's testing, but the consequences of a crash in testing is the same as it is in a race. in F1 testing, all the medical precautions are still there because the consequences are the same. why were some dodgy mountain bike riders allowed to jump across a canyon with no safety measures?

That jump was stupid. Period. It was ugly, built wrong, and was extremely high consequences. Bernard landed far left and Matt went way long. If you fucked that jump too bad, you weren't hitting the back of a dirt landing, you were hitting the scaffolding and dropping onto rocks quite far down. Hardline vs a track like Val di Sole is an interesting comparison. Lots of riders said they were scared/nervous when the rain was falling in Val di Sole. For me, the difference is that WC tracks don't usually have features you can die or have life changing injuries on if you make a mistake. Risk is managed at a WC by a commissaire who signs off the track as being safe. I think it was irresponsible to have the river gap jump without a safety net. Watching Jim flying 70ft through mid air without a safety net didn't look good for the organisers or Red Bull. Personally I think the jump was an eyesore on a stunning Welsh mountainside and should never have been conceived. Use dirt not scaffolding.

The jump was built poorly to begin with. All transitions were too tight and violent. Sam Reynolds said it the first time he saw a photo of it, so it just amazes me that nobody else spotted it? Or maybe they did but BK being the absolute selfish tool that he is felt it was fine to risk everyone’s lives and said it was okay. Luckily Jim was fine and the jump was scrapped. Hardline is hardline but features still need to be built correctly and safely.
@Ivypoison23
@Ivypoison23 25 дней назад
The jump will just never look that appeasing. 1. It’s a scaffolding jump, which is not only hideous in such a natural landscape, but scaffolding doesn’t seem great in a high wind area. 2. It’s a large wooden feature ridden at a tremendously high speed in a very rainy climate region. Not only is rain a factor if someone’s tires slip. But what happens if someone’s tire pops of foot slips going into that. 3. No net (relates to 1&2) It’s one thing to do something and say “there’s a chance I die”. with how that jump was set up, if you didn’t make it for some reason it wasn’t a chance you would die, it was damn near certain you were going to die

Totally agree with the choice to take that jump out, I doubt it was a secret prior to the event and it shows in the lack of big world cup names at this years event with teams not wanting to risk riders. If you're talking about the test jump being part of the process, even that test jump should've been designed way safer as even BK was close to miss the landing being blown left by the wind. For me more like 1 fail, 1 close to failing and 1 sketchy successful hit (Jones) = good call to remove it even without considering the "big nets" opinion. Peace!

Fully disagree with the decision not to run it, exactly same reasons as what’s already been said, we’re meant to be pushing boundaries and pushing limits further then we’ve gone before, all sports getting more and more extreme it seems like the MTB crowd are the only bunch not willing to push any more! They’re all moaning about how much there paid etc but they don’t want to out perform each other or push any further? Everything’s got to be perfect all the time, it’s THEE hard line BUT it’s not even hard anymore, myself along with other average weekend riders would ride this track lol
