A follow up review. In my first review I thought the jacket performed amazingly well after 30 days backpacking on the Scottish National Trail. However, my only doubt was with regards to durability, so after another five months of use, do I think this jacket is still fantastic ?

Good video, thanks. I have had this jacket for sometime. Here are my thoughts on the jacket: I live in the Dales. I have no choice about running and walking in bad weather. If I didn’t go out in bad weather, I would never go out at all. This is my go to jacket, when moving about, running or walking. I run most days. I first saw it on Haze Outdoors RU-vid channel. Over the past couple of weeks I have worn this jacket out running during an Amber storm warning for wind and rain and two yellow storm warnings for snow and ice. I have been out in snow, rain, gale force winds and hard hail ((ouch). I am not saying this to sound macho, but to give you some idea of the conditions in which I have been wearing this jacket. At the moment I also tend to walk most weeks, 10-12 miles with a 12kg pack, getting some training in for a longer walk this year. I wear the jacket when not raining as my windproof, I tend not to take it off, once put on. Every time I train I wear this jacket. It is superb and has never let me down. It is tougher than it looks, will keep you dry and is windproof. I am no racing snake and the fit is slim, If your buying it for walking or wearing a mid layer, think about buying a size up. Downside - I wear glasses and would have liked a peak on the hood, so I just wear a baseball cap. I have had no issues whatsoever with wear or proofing in respect of carrying a 10-12kg rucksack. I have never had a problem with condensation through sweating, perhaps I need to run faster. Obviously, it’s very light, great for if your moving. If your on a longer walk etc. You would need a warmer jacket for camp or for if you are caught out/ injured and forced to stop for a period. But I would hope you would be sensible enough to know that anyway. If you can afford it and want a good jacket, this is it.

Thanks for this Richard. I agree with everything you say. When I get wet running, it is due to sweat ( all my runs are pretty much 1 hour +). I have never felt cold running in this jacket. Its nice to know that other people think it is as good as I do.

Used this jacket on the cape wrath trail. Rained 10 days out of 15. Although it is expensive at £220 it never let me down and was also good as a wind cheater. Highly recommended

This jacket arrived today! I thought the package was empty because it is so incredibly light about 150g. I have done a lot of research and your review of it convinced me to buy it. I am doing the Cape Wrath Trail in May, and this jacket will serve me well ! I managed to buy it for £166 , a real bargain. Thanks again for a brilliant review.

Thanks for both reviews on this. I’ve just bought it for my trail running races but grateful to watch your updated video as I was also going to use as an option for a light weight waterproof when i thru hike. I was dubious that my backpacking would damage it so thank you for the review as I’ll leave it soley for running on the fella. Atb

I've just returned from a month on the Colorado Trail and I think the jacket started to let some water in through the shoulders ! I'm going to do a new test now I am home just to make sure. I can't see any abrasion or signs of wear on the shoulders ( where the rucksack straps would rub ). Will try and put something up over the next couple of weeks. Aside form that the jacket has been great so far.

I managed to pick up this jacket shortly after it launched and while wiggle was having a flash sale for a steal price of £169. I use it as a running jacket and my concerns were exactly the same as yours - durability. I concur with your video with 2 key changes. The cut on this jacket mean its excellent in rain but it often flaps around in your face if you wear it open or in patchy drizzly stuff when you might not want it zipped up to the top. The press stud for wearing the jacket open is on a thread of shakedry and mine ripped to a point where its basically off now and needed to be glued back on. This makes me think that there isnt much rip/tear resistance if a hole does develop. Ultimately though, as a running jacket its hard to beat a fabric with this level of breathability that doesnt ever wet out. Features be damned - a waterproof should be waterproof and breathable and it doesn't get more waterproof and breathable than this.
@huntonthetrails
@huntonthetrails Год назад
Fully agree with you. I have got a replacement running jacket. It's fine but nothing like the breathability or comfort of the shakedry.
@scentybeast9531
@scentybeast9531 2 года назад
Great review! Can I also ask about comfort - does it restrict movement, or does it stretch enough? And breathability - it’s said to have vapour transfer of 80k, but do you notice the difference, or it gets clammy still? Cheers ;-)
@huntonthetrails
@huntonthetrails 2 года назад
Comfort is good, but I do think it's important to try it on before you buy. I have used it for trail running and backpacking. I think the breathability seems really good. Had little condensation when backpacking. Running is obviously different as you sweat a lot more, but I always feel warm and never clammy.

Hi. Just finished the Colorado trail yesterday. Had rain for 30 out of 33 days often very heavy. Have to report that the jacket started leaking slightly through the shoulders. Going to put up some follow up comments on my channel.

I bought the same jacket around the same time as u and although I've probably not used it as often as u have I haven't had any issues with it. Its a bit tight fitting, I'm normally a Med but went for a large and whilst it's ok I would prefer a bit more room. I wish they had a trouser version as well.
@huntonthetrails
@huntonthetrails 2 года назад
I agree with regards to the trousers. Do you think the lower leg would hold up to abrasion ok ? It certainly outperforms my overtrousers and is much more comfortable to wear.
@selwynmccausland4085
@selwynmccausland4085 2 года назад
@@huntonthetrails Yeah good point regarding how well a trouser version would hold up - good waterproof trousers are important when wearing the jacket due to the water running off the jacket and the Short length of the jacket.

Agreed. I have some lightweight alpkit ones which so far have been ok.

HI, I really think about to buy this jacket. Actually, I use different brand for my trail running gears, so not sure about the sizing: in terms of jacket - I got ( Inov8 ) for XL sizing, adidas L sizing. Years ago, I had one Ronhill shorts in L sizing, which came a bit small. I am 187cm tall, 107cm chest. Would you please recommend the right size of the jacket? Thank you in advance Sebastian
@huntonthetrails
@huntonthetrails Год назад
Difficult to say. I am 183cm and weigh 154 pounds 98cm chest. I have a medium. The jacket is not adjustable, so if possible I would recommend trying before you buy. Otherwise go with the size you think, you could always return it if mail order.
@sunnysideamps
@sunnysideamps Год назад
If the jacket sufficiently roomy inside to allow for layering underneath it? For example, could you wear a medium thick fleece and thin baselayer underneath it?
@huntonthetrails
@huntonthetrails Год назад
Its quite a tight fitting jacket. However, make sure you have checked out my latest video about why I don't think it is for backpacking. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-kDMnGfNP9gg.html

Could this replace a Patagonia Houdini air jacket? I know im comparing a windbreaker with this rain jacket but people praise the shakedrys breathability
@huntonthetrails
@huntonthetrails Год назад
The breathability is great. However, do see my latest video with regards to this jackets durability. I would say it is great as a running/cycling jacket as long as you dont use a backpack. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-kDMnGfNP9gg.html

@huntonthetrails
@huntonthetrails 2 года назад
It's really difficult to know. I usually wear medium jackets ( I'm 6 ft and 11 stone ) but have this jacket in large. Because there is no adjustment in it you would be best trying it on first.

Would you recommend for ultra running where it may be mountainous with some cold/windy weather where you may not be constantly running? It looks like this retains zero heat?

I've done three 20 mile + trail races and taken this jacket. One was on February with persistent rain and it worked really well. Same on some long training runs I have done, particularly one in the lake District in really poor conditions. I have always felt comfortable, even when wet on the inside from sweat. I will be using it on the OMM mountain marathon in October.

The waterproofing is inherent to the material - Shakedry, doesn't have a waterproof outside nor does it have a lining. If you use a backpack you are just dumb - the manufacturers of garments made from shakedry, of which there are many, all state don't use with a backpack. 👍. Shakedry the material keeps water out and allows water vapour to pass through it.
@huntonthetrails
@huntonthetrails Год назад
The manufacturers do state that now. However, when I got the jacket almost 2 years ago there were no such statements. It doesn't work with any backpack. I have continued to use it when trail running and even my very light trail running pack is causing abrasions. It is a jacket not fit for purpose, works brilliantly but not durable enough for any outdoor activities in my opinion.
