I really wish that if N.C. local government in the bigger cities and the surrounding towns wanted all the growth that North Carolina has experienced that they would have had the foresight to prepare for the exponential increases in traffic in certain areas, and the wisdom to put the preservation of the natural areas of the state at the top of the list. The top being the most important thing obviously. Land can be developed in ways that utilizes all space so that developments don't have to be larger than necessary, and other types of housing like "mixed-use neighborhoods" could have been built so as to keep residential and commerical areas less spread out. These are just my own ideas and I don't care if my ideas are not good ones. The important part is that I actually thought about ways of preserving land instead of seeing it gobbled up by developers that don't give a sh*t about our home state. If government and business put forth the effort and RECOGNIZED the importance of preservation then much better ideas than mine could be implemented. Want to combat pollution? Well, then just combat over development. Look I'm no tree hugger. I am just a native to this state that hates to see the area I grew up in turn into the kind of place that people from up north are trying to escape. I hate to see the cost of living to continue to rise in the South because a lot of the natives are not benefitting from the growth with the creation of more jobs. Young "professionals" are that are from out of state. Belmont, NC? Are you kidding me? It doesn't look like the same town in just a span of 10 years. 20-25 years ago...... unrecognizable now to then. McAdenville.....I like the new houses, but some of old mill houses could have been preserved and used in other ways. Without the people that lived in those houses so long ago and on up to very recent times there would be no McAdenville. I realize that I am touching on several different things other than natural preservation. It all ties together. If anyone disagrees with some of the things I touched on then think about how sterile, soulless and depressing much of America looks and contrast this to other countries that don't just bulldoze anything with a history. (Bring up Detroit and I'll just say well then manufacturing shouldn't have been taken overseas and to Mexico. Same thing with cotton mills here, but less devastating I realize) Look at how beautiful there old towns and cities are. Look at a lot of ours now. Growth is good, but Unbridled growth will destroy the very reason for anyone to want to move here in the first place.

Mountain Island...Cleanest between Wylie and Norman???? Hell no. Norman is by far and large the cleanest.

Such b.s lmao. Lake is way over crowded and the rich fancy houses are surrounded by ghettos and get broken into all of the time even while the people are inside. The water isn't clean. There are frequently swim advisories and warning to not eat the fish because of the regular contaminations and pollutants

I'd also like to add that the community boat docks get robbed all of the time. Can't leave anything in your boats. Even the stereos get stolen

Mountain island lake can also flood by up to 8 feet because it's so small compared to Norman but directly downstream. And yeah it's not a secret, it's a super crowded lake.
