Mountain lion attacks dog while walking in Hollywood Hills 

It’s lots of coyotes in this area. I heard them barking in Griffth park. Humans forget Los Angeles is in a wilderness area with bears, lions, coons and wild dogs

I live here in Colorado with coyotes as large as wolves. I'm telling you right now if you're going to be out and about amongst Wildlife it's best to have a stun gun. Wild animals are afraid of the electricity it emits as well as the large crackling sound. Trust me on this I've gotten out of a few hairy situations with coyotes because of my stun gun.

There’s something called a “Coyote Vest” for smaller dogs. Also, dawn and dusk is when most wild animals are on the move. Best to not walk your pets at these times.

It would be best not to walk your pets during prime hunting hours (pre-sunrise and dusk).

It’s just naive to think something like this wouldn’t happen. People like this won’t go to certain neighborhoods when it’s late but let’s walk our dog when there’s wildlife around lmao I live in the mountains and I know damn well I’m not walking my dog past a certain time unless I want to get attacked by a bear or mountain lion.

Poor little Piper. May Piper rest in peace. It’s sad all around that as humans we’ve moved into their habitat. That being said if that was my dog, I would have emptied an entire clip into that mountain lion.

Dog walkers must always be alert. Dogs pick up all sorts of things off the ground that can be toxic so ideally keep the dogs in front of you when walking & never wear headphones so you can hear threats approaching.

Poor little Piper, I'm sorry for your loss. I think we all know mountain lions are predators. P-22 is around because he knows where the food source is.

So sorry for the families loss, but I applaud their understanding that they live in Cougar country, and that they hold no ill will against the cat, it is just trying to survive in a world more and more closed off by human encroachment. I hope that P22 (or whatever cat it was) is not killed for being what he was made by genetics to be, a hunter.

OK so the city knows about this mountain line running around that they’ve given him a name and a tracking device yet they don’t do anything when he’s running around neighborhoods killing peoples animals and lunches peoples animals but these are there for family it’s like they’re for children like I would be devastated if this lion killed my dog. I’m out mine was just doing what mountain lion zoo I blame the people who are supposed to be tracking this mountain lion like why don’t they relocate him I think it’s time to sue the city

I don’t blame P-22 at all. Humans took over his turf. As a dog owner myself this is just heartbreaking to hear but at the end of the day P-22 just wants to survive. Rip Piper.

The P-22 will grab someone's baby next and run with it. I mean, the dog is just like a child to some anyway but the boldness of the lion will surely escalate to grabbing a child next as it's not being punished and has a green light to target people 🙄 i mean yes i love animals too and all kinds but it's just wrong to cross and build houses in the wildlife territory or after doing so to not completely remove wildlife elsewhere as to avoid these deadly encounters. A few people have already been attacked and killed there while riding bicycles or jogging. Humans and wildlife don't mix well together

I’ve been saying this for years. These wild animals’ habitat is shrinking. They need to be moved to another area. One day it will be a small child. Wake up people!

The owner was too calm. The dog-sitter should've had the dogs walk ahead of him. My dog is on the smaller side and had he walked behind me, a coyote would've scooped him away years ago. I feel terrible for these wild animals because of human greed to keep on building on their land. It's heart wrenching to know Piper had to go this way.

I'd say this is another good example of why I always carry pepper spray and a gun. You are responsible for your own self defense and if you're walking a dog you are taking responsibility for trying protect that dog as well. Typically it would be from larger dogs that might attack the ones you're walking but you never know what you might run into. One dose of the hot sauce in P22's face would have ended that situation really quickly.

Poor little dog. And the trauma the dog walker, as well as the other dog, must have suffered. So sad.

I remember a blond lady was mauled and disfigured by a mountain lion in Aliso Viejo near Laguna hills ... on a bike trail brand new community in 90s animals everywhere.. the lion took her down from the back by the neck like she was prey they had to reconstruct her face... these mountains where their home we gotta remember

Bro people need to understand that you guys took over there land and yes its sad for the dog and the family, but you people can't call it a monster or super super dangerous have you ever thought what the mountain lion thinks of you. It's just living of of its natural instincts. And yes I understand if there's a lot of people that disagree.

tiny dogs are easy prey. the "dog walker" had 0 control of the dogs . they weren't walking them they were dragging the small dogs behind him and he had 0 situational awareness . the cougar should have grabbed the idiot human and eaten him.

So sad. One thing I learned about dog walkers is that they suck. I have had many and I mean many bad dog walkers. Some I even caught not walking my dogs. They are being paid to take care of your dogs but they careless. It is all just about the money and no passion in what they are doing. One dog Walker took my dogs to the park and sat the entire time in a bench while she had a blind date meet her there. The entire two hours they spoke on a bench. I tried different businesses and it is not worth it. It's best you walk your dogs yourself or have someone do it that actually loves, cares for your dogs. Maybe the little dog would of survived if the dog Walker was paying attention to the surroundings. Please be careful if you hire anyone to pet sit or walk your dogs. You are the owner and anything that happens at the end of the day you're at fault for and not the dog walker. So if your dog walker doesnt pay attention and your dog attacks another dog you will pay for that bill even a lawsuit. Thank you for all the good dog owners out there and to the few good dog walkers out there.

P22 needed help after being hit viciously by a car. He was unable to hunt proper game and turned to puny dogs out of desperation. He was ill and suffered from hunger and mange. No one seems to have even considered taking him to a shelter where he could receive veterinary care and food. When are you building those wildlife bridges...??? Y O U killed him ! ! !

So maybe you should allow alerts on amber alerts to ping the location of p-22 and then animal services should target the encounter and send it back on its way out of the city.
