This countryside mountain walk is about 6.5 miles long, the first section is quite steep but you will get great views over Margam Park and Swansea Bay. Don’t forget to visit the old ruined church of Hen Eglwys and the World War II radar station.
There is parking for a few cars by the start and there is further parking near the duck pond. You can also park by Margam Abbey church.
Margam Abbey church is worth a visit at the start or end of your walk.

I started watching your walks during Lockdown. I love them. As a Port Talbot lad, you've covered many of the areas I frequented as a young walker! It's all fantastic stuff! I now live in Lincolnshire. I intend following your walk when I visit relatives! Thanks Marcus

Did this walk today with my mate we both really enjoyed, been looking for some new local walks to do, the map and direction tips were very helpful, we still had a little wander off but soon corrected ourselves 😂 The last few kms are a bit wet at the moment NRW have been using a grader to widen the road down and pit drainage pipes in so it gets pretty muddy between 5-6 miles in. Great views on a beautiful crisp winters day today and it looked as good today as when you did it in the summer. Keep up the good work.

I succeeded after my second attempt to complete this route :) I started the route on Thursday from my house in Margam, went through an underpass by Lansbury Avenue to get onto Margam Mountain. I joined your route heading upto Brombil Res then headed up above the Res after watching your video then followed your route after making notes on your video and remembering which way you went. I have no idea how to use GPS coordinates so I just remembered your video. On Thursday I got to the top road path above the Res and followed that road but kept on going straight when I should of taking a slight right after the stacked up logs. After realising I'd taking the wrong route and started to get a bit scared that I was going to be one of those people who are rescued or found a few days later lol, I just retraced my steps back where I came from and headed back home. I tried again today after watching your video again and this time I was successful:)) Your directions were very good and I was really happy that I was able to complete this route after wondering for years if it was possible to get to Margam Park via Brombil Res. The full round route from my house and back took 2 hours and 50 minutes. I'd forgotten about the magical experience of exploring and having new experiences that I knew from when i was a kid and this journey today reminded me of the wonder of life and getting into an adventurous mindset. Thank you Marcus i would not of had this experience if you hadn't of uploaded this video! P.S. I need to look into how GPS works lol

That's great and I'm glad my directions were helpful. I nearly got lost up there when I was walking Margam back in the winter and it was getting dark. The path I was meant to take was blocked and I took a lot of dead ends.

Grew up in Margam, but never walked up behind the Res before. Done this as my first walk in a long time, not a good choice when overweight and unfit for the first one back lol, but really enjoyed. Directions were great thank you, I did also use the GPS route also, but could have done from memory from your video. Took me a lot longer to complete last week and was a bit worrried at one point if Mountain Rescue would be needed lol. Thank you, intend to follow a few more of your walks, probably more of the flatter ones for a while !

Thank you! I live in Margam and go for a walk up Margam Mountain every couple of weeks and I could never figure out how to get above Brombil Res. Thank you, I'll try and find the route this week.

Wow it must have taken quite some time to cut that trail... You can see the different trees and flowers at the different levels of the hike. 🐑
@marcuswalks
@marcuswalks Год назад
Many of the trees are spruce, not native to this area. They are cutting many of those down and starting to replant the native trees.

Yes, the bluebells were out in force. Great views although it did seem like you were walking uphill for most of the way.

@@marcuswalks I must admit when I saw the end, I did think I would of probably preferred the longer less steeper climb and come down the steeper way.

Another superb local walk, lots and lots of trees on the mountain, is it all commercial or is it wild?
@marcuswalks
@marcuswalks Год назад
It's a mix, common land, sheep farming and forestry. Although they are slowly replacing a lot of the non-native spruce trees with native varieties of trees.
@Sanddancer1
@Sanddancer1 Год назад
i think theyre taking the trees down in order to replant with native species its happening in scotland as well , might make this a late autumn walk if theres lots of uphill

I swam in it when I was. 19 Marcus frightened me a bit that was in 1975 beautiful blue lake nobody’s around to rescue you if you get into trouble though so deep it is I was with my mate but he couldn’t have helped me cause he couldn’t swim ha .

I did see someone swim in it a few weeks ago when I was checking the walk. Wouldn't fancy it myself!
