Our problem was the post office. They drove all over town with them in the truck before delivering them to our local feed store. He said chickens weren’t his problem! Our local store lost at least a thousand chicks on delivery and many died within 48 hrs because of the cold. Good luck with the new batch! Saundra please feel better soon!❤❤❤

Do what right for you .don't listen to any one. You know what best for your farm. Some times things aren't allways right but you make it work that's farming.

Perhaps unusual question for you. Would you ever entertain volunteer workers to visit see the farm and help you with the place? Sounds like you need some extra hands. I make a spring trip down in NC to catch some college & minor league baseball every year and will be traveling down that way. How would I best reach out to you to discuss further (if you are at all interested, of course)

We switched from Hoover last year due to high mortality rates. We currently use the chick hatchery and Valley Farms Hatchery. Our most recent batch of 300 arrived in mid February and we have only lost 15. We have birds coming every 12 weeks so we can't afford the types of losses we experienced with Hoover.

Skinny Jeans for the win! haha. I'm not sure about everyone else, but I believe one of the funniest parts of all these videos is "stupid geese". I think most of us have that type of love/hate relationship with one of our animals. For us, it's the stupid guineas.

Have you all looked into the delivery routes' lengths between the two hatcheries? Maybe the travel time is longer than what the chicks cold tolerance can handle.

We’ve used Freedom Ranger hatchery with great success. We’ve also used Myers hatchery with no problems, Turkeys and chickens.

I’ve enjoyed the videos and hope Sandra gets better soon. I like the coop for the laying hens I saw in this video; wanting to add; actually expand egg production on our place. Have you done a video showing your coop and how you built it? I’m in central Michigan. Thanks

Might be how far away Hoover is compared to FRH. FRH to you is about 7.5 hours, but Hoover to you is about 15.5 hours. No telling how much jostling and temp fluctuations those chicks have been though. When I ordered form McMurray (also Iowa) to FL they had a 17 hour ride and we had many deaths. When we ordered from Cackle to our home now- both us and Cackle are in Missouri- not a single death

I had issues with hoover in the past and results never changed. We use meyer hatchery and have had excellent results! Big healthy birds with little to no deaths, customer service is excellent and very responsive with any issues.

Chuck, I'll tell you the truth, if I lived a little closer, I'd be glad to help on the farm anytime you needed it, looks like things are beginning to green up around there, you're probably not going to need much more hay this year, looking forward to seeing you the first of May in Clemmons

We have ordered our meat and egg chicken for the past 3 years from freedom ranger hatchery and have not had any problems. Have a batch coming the 2nd week in April. We live in Martinsville VA. Hope you have better luck with them.

Suggestion: Put long hooks on those crutches, so she can carry feed buckets. Foot problems not any fun, just take care and don't over due. Praying for a quick recovery.

Hard to keep a good woman down! At least that’s how I look at it, most women do way more than most people can even imagine and usually while doing two or three other full time jobs at the same time. Love the skinny jeans idea ! Please keep that going ! Ok; here's what I've learned some farmers are doing in Ireland. They are grazing sheep on their winter crops, like oats and wheat. The idea is that when the seed sprouts it puts out some leaves and one grain stem. The sheep graze it down, plus cultivate with those tiny hooves, and are moved on. The plants recover and throw out bunches of leaves, plus 3 or more seed stems. Thus, the crop is doubled and tripled ! How cool is that ? Supposedly, it's just an old practice that is being revived. As far as the chicks, I just buy small batches from places like Rural King and normally everything's good. This year I picked up 6 chicks of a breed new to me, and 5 died. They replaced them, and 2 of those died, too. I don't know what hatchery they used, but it seems many places are having issues. Mostly, I just incubate my own.

I loved the Comment of the Day. I don't understand why some people feel the need to unconstructively criticize other people. I have a few ideas, but it wouldn't be politically correct for me to share them. I try to ignore them. Hope for a speedy recovery for Saundra.

I sure hope Sandra feels better soon. I’ve never had problems with what she’s dealing with but my youngest son did and it was no fun at all. He’s a workhorse too. Just like his Daddy was. We lost him to brain cancer four years ago. After three brain surgeries in two years to remove tumors he had nothing left within him to fight with. But he did fight hard. After his first surgery he lost his speech. He quickly started speech therapy which was a very slow process. Then he was paralyzed on his right side after that third surgery. This man wanted to live so badly bc our youngest son got married during his illness. He wanted to be around to meet future grandchildren. They just weren’t ready to start a family since they had just married. Up til then we had only had two grandsons. Since his death we now have two granddaughters who he would have been ecstatic about since we had three sons and two grandsons. We also have two more grandsons. Needless to say our boys got busy! Hug your spouse and tell them that you love them EVERY day! We never know when!

If u have pig feed waste, why not look for a used pig feeder? Will keep the feed in one spot, keep it dry and help avoid them wasting it. What do you think? I used to work on a hog farm.

You dont think about it usually while working, but spraying that chicken waterer next to the dog waterer increases the risk of feces based illness to the dog. Micro splatter should be considered. Great video!
