@@thelovedoneinternational3213 it gave me the least amount of hold….my wash n go only lasted a day or 2, Also I did a twist out with it and it didn’t last that long either… it’s good but the others on the list have overall stronger hold
@@leoskiss3390 Did you use this mousse with a leave in conditioner underneath it? Or tried it with a gel underneath and then the mousse on top if it? This last combination I saw on a RU-vid video by Miche.
@@thelovedoneinternational3213 yep tried it a few different ways…. I mean it’s a good product I was mostly ranking based on hold and longevity of my hairstyle
All the methods that you're using to find your ideal regiment are giving your hair life. I'm loving the growth and volume. I used to cowash and somehow stopped. You have reminded me of a good habit 😊.
Thank you! Cowashing got a bad rap for a while. So many stopped doing it, and just started shampooing. Which isn’t bad, but it was really fun to cowash again.
The Design Essentials Avo Almond Mousse works well with leave ins, I’ve used a few. I used this mousse for 2.5 years straight with Camille Rose Honey leave in and the Curl Maker gel. It was my go to until my hair grew. The Camille’s Rose Spiked Honey mousse defines my hair better and I use less of it.
Leave in Mousse Gel I would coil my hair and it’d last for 1-2 weeks. I washed weekly and ran/hiked a lot. It was much shorter with a Mohawk so I didn’t feel gross not washing it unless it rained.
I actually really like this mousse, I literally just emptied it yesterday! I find it worked best as a refresher on already moisturized hair though. I had a braid out that didnt turn out great, so the next day I applied this mousse to dry hair and rebraided, and it added some shine + bomb volume.
Love watching you do your hair. Also, I 100% agree with using a leave in. I love this mousse too but I struggle with the same issue of dryness after a while. I’ve noticed also that my hair performs better with a leave in before I style. It just is what it is
I think this Mousse is good without a leave in because it has a silicone in it, which does help seal in moisture. The previous ones you’ve used are silicone free.
It was more moisturizing than a few mousse I’ve tried, but I still like the leave-in underneath for lubrication purposes. thanks for pointing that out though because I did not know that.
@@BrittanyMia the leave In will definitely help with moisture retention if you couldn’t do your hair everyday with this mousse. I’m loving your journey, so thank you for sharing.
Glad to see you using a leave-in before the styling foam. Your hair looks great, the volume and length are flourishing. I have this Design Essentials foam and look forward to using it soon. Curlsmith has a nice heat protectant called Miracle Shield. It also shields from UV rays and pollution. I like the way it feels on my hair. 🥰 My favorite cowashes from the following brands: As I Am, Curlsmith, Soultanicals Butta shampoos, and Eden Body Works.
I use a little leave in under my mousse. I add the leave in while in the shower. I twist each section and allow my leave in to marinate (that's what I call it). I then go back in and add my mousse. I don't like the dry feeling. If I have a really special event, I may skip this step. Also when using mousse, don't overlap any sections with mousse. Wipe your hands before starting different sections to that each section can be detangled. If not, mousse starts to set your hair as soon as it touches etc.
Hi Brittany...your hair looks great. Glad I saw this video. I recently used the Design Essentials mousse for a twist out. I really like how my hair felt. So I said I was going to try it for a wash n go. I want to try it with and without a leave-in.
I always use a leave in or styling cream before my styler. I’m a high porosity type 4 coily girl and I need the moisture before using a mouse or gel no matter how hydrating they claim to be. I do recommend trying the curls sea moss foam it is a more hydrating type of foam and has ton of slip. Only thing is the smell is a strong fruity type of smell that does linger especially when using the curl slime In conjunction which I absolutely love that every time I shake my head I can get whiff of my hair, but I know lots of people are scent sensitive or don’t like strong scents.
I love the Oyin and Curl Junkie cowashes. Using regular conditioner for cowashing can create issues long term for the hair follicles and hair if you don't clarify. Cowashes should have surfactants in them.
Hey girl! Love the video and the outcome😍 This is one of my favorites. I like to combo it with their curl creme. I've been taking advantage of the sephora hair sale and I thought of you. Today the Verb curl foaming gel is on sale for $10. It's supposed to control frizz but give definition of a gel. I'll let you know my results. Until next time much love💜
I use mousse without leave in but i have to towel dry my hair first otherwise i get dry hair like you. It also helps the hair feel less grippy when applying in my experience.
That’s interesting, thanks for sharing. I know adding too much water and using mousse is counterproductive, especially when using mousse alone. I’m so iffy about styling on damp hair, but it reminds me of when I was refreshing my hair on dry hair, and how it looked better after the refresh.
My hair does best if I wash/wet it every other day if I go more than 3 days my hair starts looking like trash. I just started experimenting with Tracee Ellis Ross’ mousse and I’m on the fence. However, I literally saw this mouse at TJ Maxx for $7.99. Unfortunately I didn’t have my credit card on me so I’ll go back in the morning to purchase it.
This vid is right on time! I’ve been eyeing that DE mousse for a hot lil minute. My hair’s essential elements are nearly identical to yours, so I’m hoping the mousse will work out just as beautifully for me. Your videos are so well done and thorough. And you help me feel less weird about my indecisiveness 😅 I don’t cowash anymore, but when I did, Oyin Handmade’s ginger mint cowash was my jam. It’s more of a cleansing conditioner though, since it contains cocoamidopropyl (sp?) betaine. But it left my hair just as moisturized and hydrated as a straight-up conditioner would. Plus, it contains hydrolyzed oat protein, which gave my hair a touch of strength and elasticity.
I think it's cool that you're looking into options for what works best for you and you're sharing it. I'm sticking to what's been proven to work for me and it's simple, my w&g last for 5 to 7 days, flawlessly. I don't ever use leave in conditioners nor do i do prepooing. I wash once a week with either the curlsmith line or don't despair. Drench it with water, put on my base gel of choice then the topper gel. No complications nor guessing of how my hair will look/ last. Once it's much longer I'll do some twistouts with a mouse that i like but still no leave ins. Uh uh
I agree with you on using a leave in under a styler. I think of a styler for hold, not to retain moisture. I really like the Design Essentials mousse. Best one so far.
Love your curls and great results. The Design Essential mousse is on my fav list. I love doing a wash and go with that mousse and I always use it with a leave-in here are some I like to use kinky curly leave-in, or Camille Rose coconut water leave-in or my Aveda spray leave-in. Thank you for showing how you cowash. Love how detail you are in your videos. Thank you again and by the way my daughter name is Brittany too beautiful name 😊😊 I just subscribed
Thanks for sharing the leave-ins that you use with this mousse! You are absolutely welcome, and you have a great taste in names (obviously) 😆 thanks for subscribing, welcome 🤗.
So interesting how different everyone’s hair reacts to product. I def can’t go 7 days with a mousse only wash and go but I get a solid 4 days of defined and soft feeling hair. Specifically with mousse def and the Camille rose honey one, I never feel like I need a leave-in, I just know I will need to reset my hair by Thursday. I love watching you try new products and techniques!! 💗
I went back to using Cowash since my hair is short and therefore gets dry faster and have been loving Curl Junkie Daily Fix and of course As I Am. But lemme see if someone makes a bond builder Cowash cuz I didn't even think of that!
Have you considered a scalp refresh spray after workouts? I love the Sunday 2 Sunday Scalp Refresh spray. It's micellar water based so it helps cleanse and moisturizes the scalp between washes. I like to spray the Sunday 2 Sunday on my roots only, massage and then put my hair in four to five ponies with ouchless bands and sit under the dryer. It's less friction from daily manipulation through washing for me.
I tried one from uncle funky’s daughter, and it actually made my scalp itch lol I actually still have it. I think it caused some itchiness due to the fact that I was only shampooing once a week when I started using it and I was working out a lot so I may have to revisit it. Thanks for the recommendation, I’ll check that out!
Since you’re considering using a leave in with the mousse, why not try a curl cream with it instead?🤷🏾♀️ That’s my go-to for twistouts now but the wash n go results are too fluffy for my taste. But it seems that’s what you’re going for. I love watching your process. I love experimenting with my hair too.
My goal was to see if I could get away with using light products and get great volume and definition. But at this point, I’ve learned that moisturizers and creams are not just optional, but necessary for my hair health and my desired result (fluffy but with more definition and hold) So I will be integrating curl creams into the mix! They are coming out mostly fluffy, but that’s all in the name of experimentation! Thanks for sharing that great pov 🙌🏾
Great video! I’m going back to adding a co-wash to my wash day regimen every other week during Fall and Winter. That’s when I leave wash and go’s and turn to twists outs as my styling go-to. I got my first ever curly trim (Tippi Shorter/Hair Love KC) and for the FIRST TIME EVER….I didn’t have EVEN ONE FAIRY KNOT!!!!! I could have gone out in public with my Day One Wash and Go!! My hair looks fabulous!!!!! Keep the videos coming!!!!!
What a great, informative series! Thank you so much! Is Giovanni Mousse Air-Turbo Charged Hair Styling Foam on your list? Please review that one, too. 😊
Anything with water as first ingredient is moisturizer. If someone finds a one and done than they are one and done. No layering required if all the checkboxes are checked. Thank you ❤
I have a finicky scalp so I clarify weekly then follow up with a moisturising shampoo and that keeps my scalp from getting itchy throughout the week. Maybe the moisturising shampoo deposit too much moisture for your scalp?
@@BrittanyMia I use the harsher cleanser before the moisturising cleanser so my hair gets remoisturised before the deep coniditioner. Stripped hair doesn’t really accept moisture as well. I found the routine when I compared how my scalp felt with clarifying and moisturising shampoos. I’m sure you’ll figure out the perfect combo the more you experiment.
I'm looking for a mousse or foam that just enhances the cast from my base and topper gel. So i went an picked up the mousse def foam and even tho it was flake city the first time, i got to day 5 without hating it 😂. i just work out and sweat profusely 5 days a week so i think that's the best i can get my set to be. question how do i get my bangs to stay down overnight so that it's not scrunched up on day 3 and 4??
I typically tuck it to the side under my bonnet. I’ll tuck it to the left side one night and the right side the next so that it’s not going to one side too much during the day.
I'm still amazed that people think products work the same way on everyone's hair. You have to find what works for your hair. I just like to sit and enjoy the video.
I’m trying mane choice glaze gel on my next wash day, but I just purchased the mousse from Mane Krush I love her other products so why not😊. I’ll come back and let you know how that mousse worked for me. She just had a huge sale, (which I missed) so it might be a minute before you hear back from me on it due to shipping time 🤪
Great video as usual ❤ i have some questions . 1. Do you love co washing ? I find that i get build up pretty easy , plus i can get a irritated scalp . 2. Why not use a gel under your mouse for extra hold unless thats not what your going for . Awhile ago i watched ayesha do a wash and go with uncle funkys and ag moose , and it gave her day 3 hair on day 1 . Also ive been detangling before i wash my hair , i use the pattern beauty detangling necter. So by the time i shampoo and condition its already detangled. I try to be as efficient as possible because i have 2 girls with very long curly hair lol 😅 so i barely have time for my hair , but i try not to go over 5 days .
I love cowashing because it adds immediate moisture to my curls in between shampooing. It’s helping to mitigate some of the dryness that I was experiencing while doing this mousse only wash and go series. I also do not put the conditioner on my scalp. I just focusing on my hair and water wash my scalp. Right now I’m moving away from gels and trying different styling products to test and see what my preference is. Gel can give great hold, but I’m not currently seeking a strong hold. There are gels that do not give such a strong hold but again I’m just testing out different stylers at this time. I’ve heard great things about the detangling nectar so it’s on my radar. Thanks for sharing!
Just a reminder to everyone, a leave in conditioner is not needed. The only thing that can moisturize your hair is water. Normal conditioner seals that moisture and that's all you need. I havent used a leave in for about a year now and my wash and go last for 7 days. I now use mousse but I always use a topper gel to give me more of a hold and that has made my hair last very long.
I respectfully disagree. I don’t think that conditioner is all that is needed for everyone. I think that it works for many many people. However, not everyone. My hair responds better to using a leave-in conditioner. Is it needed always, no. But for me, it’s preferred to maintain hydration. To me, that’s like taking a shower and not putting lotion on. Or putting the lotion on and then rinsing it off again. Hydration is about moisture absorption, but moisturization is about moisture retention. I think products with a strong hold can do a good job of retaining that moisture, but products that do not have a strong hold don’t. I do not like a strong hold so therefore, I am not retaining much moisture without a moisturizer. This is just what I found for myself as I’m experimenting with my hair.
@BrittanyMia I completely agree, a leave is needed for my hair which has very similiar pattern, density and curl to your hair. Everytime ive tried styling without a leave in. My hair is a disaster.
@@BrittanyMia I understand we do what we think is right for our hair hence the reason why you say you use leave in conditioners for extra hydration and it always feels right to add it. I was once like this too. Ive spent 2 years of my life wasting money on items I don't even need because I thought I was helping my hair. I thought I knew my hair more than anyone. There are 2 stylists on Instagram that are called black girl curls and I thought it was crazy for them to say such a thing because I thought leave INS are additional moisture. But after reading their online guide and tried it myself only using a botanical and a topper gel (I've seen you have used this combo many many times) , Ive noticed my hair lasted long and I had no need to stretch my hair anymore plus my hair felt great without it.I haven't looked back since and I no longer use deep conditioners unless I am preparing for after a style take down I know this is a topic where people will agree to disagree but putting leave in after you have already sealed with a conditioner doesn't do anything. I know it feels that way because our hair is much more softer after the application with wet hair, but your conditioner has already done its Job. I can understand using it after washing because it's still a conditioner and you need something to seal in that moisture. We only get moisture from water after we cleanse our hair and all the conditioner does is seal that water/moisture. I know this is an agreed to disagree thing, but I just wanted to explain this.
@@JM_408 Gel does not lock any moisture in your hair. We only get moisture from water after we've cleansed and it is sealed with conditioner. I don't normally use mousse but I am trying to use up the remaining Paul Mitchell that was bought. I normally and usually only use botanical gels and topper gels. But those things don't matter if you are not applying the right technique. If I showed you a picture of my hair a year ago versus now with the same gel but better technique, you wouldn't believe me.
I’ve considered it, but I haven’t done it because it just felt like an extra step, but with K18 that’s probably extremely helpful so thank you for the suggestion.
@@BrittanyMia for me the way my coils are set up I need that detangling lol and I feel like the k18 applies more evenly. Just a thought but definitely an extra step
Hydration and moisture are two different things. Water hydrates by reverting hair from a dry state. The water preps the hair to absorb moisture from a moisturizing product.
I’m not sure if I missed this in another video but do you prefer K18 better than Olaplex No 3? I know they’re different but I’m curious to know your thoughts. (I’ve only used Olaplex)
Mmmm I honestly prefer Olaplex. They both do different things and are both good products but I don’t like that I have to leave on the K18, and that I can’t use a deep conditioner with it without feeling like I’m essentially wasting the K18. The company says that you can rinse it out after four minutes of leaving it in the hair, but since they prefer that it’s used as a leave in product I hate rinsing it out because it is one of the most expensive products I use. I feel like I’m wasting money by essentially rinsing it down the drain. so those are my thoughts on that currently. 🖤
I think in this case your hair wasn’t “moisturized” because you didn’t condition properly. The styling phase is just that, the conditioning/detangling phase is a precursor no matter what product you use. If that step isn’t done properly your styling phase will be difficult and the overall wash & go isn’t going to give favorable results.
I’m not 100% sure on this. Shampooing, probably not. But cowashing is different. However, there is potential damage from simply wetting the hair daily from the cuticle opening and swelling so often. My thoughts are using a bond builder conditioner would help with that, but there are conflicting ideas between different professionals on the matter. I probably wouldn’t be doing it everyday. More like 4 to 5 days a week since that’s my workout schedule.
It’s a thing for sure. I started off with my mousse only and now I’m moving onto mousse as the main styler, but with a leave-in underneath. I’ll eventually move on to adding gels back into the mix.
One thing that is important to note, is mousses have the most water content, than any styler. The hair is meant to be light, hydrated, and with hold. Most have their holding agents lower in the formulation, but design essentials/the Doux/Nairobi all have their holding agents within the first 4 ingredients. Doing the hair every day, is just so much. Especially if the cowash doesn't have cleansing agents. So the conditioner is just adding to the product lol. Mousses will never weigh the hair down and give you the feeling of a cream or gel. If you want more oil rich products, then use them. But make sure, you're using the appropriate cleanser and conditioner afterwards. It's all about technique
Water washing is a thing. I am adding more product but product is also rinsed out during water washing. Not completely ofc. I wasn’t really expecting the mousse to do what a cream or gel does. I hadn’t had enough experience with mousse alone to know what it would do. But now I know lol. And I’ll be using more oil rich products as you mentioned and implementing the proper shampoo and conditioner for these products. Thanks for sharing 😊.
