I just finished the Anthem series. I feel so convicted. I called myself a born again Christian, having experienced the love of God but after watching this I realized how lukewarm I have got over the time. Being prideful and boastful about how I know the Bible. Blaming God for things I shouldn't. struggling with PMO. After listening to this I realized how far I have come. Thank Pastor John. thank you for humbling me before God.
Im a 18 year old guy and im fighting the battle on lust. Two days ago i fell into this sin again. And now i have gotten enough. I really want to stop this sin and i know that it is not possible by my own willpower but only through the Lord, if he helps me fight this sin. So i would realy appreciate if some of you would lay my life into the hands of God. Pray that i may grow in love to God and that this may be a lasting decision.
Ive been battling lust for almost 9 years and it has affected me so much. Only recently have I tried to free myself from this sin with no luck. I am afraid i will relapse again but I feel like that thought is not strong. Idk but I feel great after watching these Anthem videos
For me, to be free on lust temptation is first in the morning: 1) I'll be grateful to Him for everything He had done in my life 2) Sing 3 songs to glorify Him 3) Forgive my enemies 4) Ask Him to give me the strength to flee from sexual temptations by thinking something good, honorable, just, pure and lovely.
yes, we must buffet our body and put under submission, if you indulge every desire of the body (like eat and sleep excessivly, lazyness, etc) the next step is fall into sexual imorality
Fasting is something supernatural it cannot be done in the strength of the flesh, God will give you strength if you trust Him, but if you do in your own strength you will fail
Watched them all, have them now in my computer to watch them as many times as I need to, as a reminder and as an Spiritual Weapon against Satan, thank you Pastor Piper, may God our father Bless you. Holy Holy Holy is our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, all Honor Praise and Glory is His now and forever, Amen.
Thank you for this teaching, it has really helped me as I have been getting serious in overcoming lust and seeking God. Another scripture I would add that I believe fits perfectly is when Jesus taught us how to pray - “lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.”
Thank you, thank you! I praise God for this message. There can be so much shame surrounding this issue that, in my experience, I have not been able to seek as much help for it as i should have. The fight against lust is a war. Lust is shameful, but the battle is worth fighting.
Pastor John, thank you for loving Jesus. I finished the ANTHEM series this morning and will continue to dig deep into this! This precious walk through scripture is more than overcoming lust. This study causes the believer to stand against falsehood and worldly, ineffective religion. This study of His Word creates within us a zeal to stand against all those lies which raise themselves against the healthy knowledge of our powerful precious Savior. Thank you dear brother for your service in Christ to encourage the Body of Christ unto love and good deeds. I embrace you in the Spirit and pray, thanking our Lord for touching us through you! Ephesians 3:20
Help me pray on this because I will preach on Sunday and am 15 but I battle this fiercely pray my brethren please it is not the first time I preach but it's hard to deliver the message of God and battle this God bless you all
Praying for ya bro. I know how hard it can be to stand in front of people and bring Gods word, or even prepare for that, when you have that guilt hanging over you. I also know that it always seems so much harder to resist in those times. Man, just know that in Christ you are covered, forgiven. There is no condemnation. By the spirit you have everything you need to win, but there is grace enough when you fail.
I needed this for many reasons. Thank you God for giving me the wisdom I sought out for and asked. You are amazing. THank you for this channel and for whoever has narrated this.
Thank you for this series. It has been very enlightening and educational. I pray for all those who are and struggling with lust as I am to overcome in the mighty name of Jesus.
Thank you Pastor John for this series, this message, and this resource on one of the most important Christian virtues - Dealing with lust. GodBless you MoG.
He’s talking about salvation here just to clarify. Hopefully you believe holiness is necessary for salvation, but don’t be mistaken about the fact that he’s talking about salvation. His first video in this series where he breaks down Matt5:28-30 makes it perfectly clear. We either learn to walk in purity or go to hell. This is startling to someone who spent his entire life church and never heard it emphasized that way. Piper is at least teaching verses like Matt5:28-30 but he puts it so nicely it can take away from the severity-there’s a tremendous severity here! Getting married will help but we still have to fight against like our eternity depends on it because it does..
Thank you Jesus for this righteous strategies Against lust, Lord help us from the works of the devil And in Ephesians 6:10-11 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. 11 put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able To stand against the schemes of the devil.
The face value of this text is implied. It has nothing to do with lust. However, it explains a spiritual concept. The field is your life. The vineyard is the fruits your life are supposed to produce. The sluggard is one who doesn't study the Law of the Kingdom, a scoffer. Lacking sense, they are one who reads "forever, throughout your generations in all your dwellings" and says not me, not now, not in my house. The wall is the boundary between the world and your life. Thorns and nettles are the works of their misunderstanding that the Kingdom has no law anymore since a man took it away. (I would encourage you to read Matthew 5:17-18) Being RICH in the fruit of the knowledge of God and obedience to the Word (keeping in mind that the Jewish Jesus was the Word before the new testament was written), will keep poverty and want away. If you have knowledge, you don't need knowledge. The Lord open the eyes and ears of your understanding.
I discovered something pertinent these past few weeks in my struggle with lust; what I realized is that the feelings that pop up are not mine; I am actually a pure minded person; the 'lust' is in fact the influence of a demonic entity, it is they who implant these thoughts, it is they who plot with supernatural intelligence to create the situation that causes me to sin/fall; so I've been beating myself up thinking that I'm such a terrible person, but its a lie! So now, when the feelings or the thoughts pop-up...I am mindful of the fact that the demon is present and it is the demon that is conjuring up those thoughts/feelings and since demons are already defeated by Christ...I find myself less deceived and more empowered; these demons are super intelligent though or they've just been observing me my whole life and they know how to get me to fall. Of course, effort and discipline and mindfulness is still required but we should not feel worthless because we are in fact children of God and as such we are divine beings; it is this demon-infested world that is bad and we by virtue of having bodies have power over them. So stop being afraid, stop beating yourself up, thinking you're bad or weak...we are at war with demons and when we resist them, they flee!
One step in defeating lust. Romans 8:2-4 KJVS [2] For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death. [3] For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh: [4] That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. 1 Peter 4:1-2 KJVS [1] Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin; [2] That he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God. How the death and resurrection of Christ motivate us , to be zealous for good works ? How it rises desires for good works ? Desiring God , how the desires wake up , needs more work .
Wow this interpretation/advice is so OFF. I’m disappointed in John Piper. The BEST WAY FOR MEN TO FIGHT PORNOGRAPHY IS TO GRASP WHAT THAT IS DOING TO PEOPLE TRAFFICKED AND DRUGGED THERE AND FORCED TO DO all kinds of perverse acts that will damage them for life. JUST IMAGINE IF YOU WERE ONE OF THOSE PEOPLE ABUSED. Piper’s advice is all in SELF DISCIPLINE when the SOLUTION IS ALWAYS IN OUR HEARTS. We will do what we want. And NO SANE MAN WOULD watch pornography IF HE ONLY KNEW THE DAMAGE he is doing to trafficked people by watching that.
Holy eisegesis, Batman! You don't get to change the meaning of Proverbs just because you want to use the same metaphor to push your own idea. Your idea may even be correct, but it certainly isn't the meaning of Proverbs. Likewise, you can't just read a passage about doing good works and then say, "See, laziness causes lust!" John Piper, you desperately need godly and intelligent men around you to reign in your charismania and agenda-pushing.
eru san what agenda is he pushing here? Not to watch porn or give in to lust? Some verses can be perceived a stretch sure but it’s hard for me to think that there’s malintent here.
eru san In the interest of accuracy and fairness, Piper, at no time, ascribed original intent to the specific context of porn and lust, but rather, he appropriately demonstrated the inherent admonition of Proverbs' didactic in the necessity of exerting perpetual effort in maintaining purpose & preventing disorder... which is sin - whether from vocation or production in bearing fruit of any context, including good works : its teleology (in which porn is the complete disorder of the Godly purpose for which it is the corruption of). This is simply and effectively a reiteration of John Owen: ".... make it your daily work; be always at it whilst you live; cease not a day from this work; be killing sin or it will be killing you." For upon consideration of your perspectives, the incorrect assertions of Piper's intent in each one are concerning : 1) "change the meaning of Proverbs... to push your own ideas" 2) "can't just read passage... & say, 'See, laziness causes lust!' " 3) "...desperately need... to reign in your charismania and agenda- pushing" -- this being from the implication that Piper doesn't have "godly" or "intelligent" men around him. Since it seems you're astute in understanding contextuality and other such aspects of literary assessment, the clumsy errors in your critique or "close reading" are curiously incongruent with that astuteness; for the quotations, their specific usage, and even the suggestive "tone" from which they're postered are all self-demonstrably fallacious (hence clumsy) and implicitly combative in such examples: "change... push... just read & say... desperately... charismania... agenda-pushing". Perhaps most curious is "agenda- pushing" because the astute/clumsy characteristic contrasts seem rhetorical. So in Christian charity and consideration, it's appropriate to allow you the clarification that would reconcile these seeming disparities in character. Sincerely
If you're just saying this cz you're feeling convicted and fighting it, then just say. Laziness is a fuel to sin. hence why self-control and other essentials are part of the fruit of the spirit because it requires WORK.
