Here is another video I made that will help anyone who has an iPhone 14 or earlier! Let me know if you have any questions! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-BlXJaQ706vM.htmlsi=He6DvgB0RoBbC6ar
Tip when using this drive are you must turn your phone or iPad off before disconnecting drive, if ssd drive doesn’t appear in files, you must hook it to a computer open file then shut file, then try with iPhone again should appear in files, these work with iPad iPhones but you have to follow these rules and it probably won’t hunt to wait a minute or two before starting to disconnect
I’m an IPhone user and a Windows PC user. Getting files from my IPhone to PC has been a 7 year journey of pain and if this method actually works I will be so hyped
@MarkHardstaff-pj1fo 4k footage is what I frequently need to send over. This is particularly difficult because I work as a performer on Cruise Ships and internet is nonexistent. Apart from that it’s so infuriating that they took this long to give a solution to Apple and PC users. Apple went out of their way to make things as difficult as possible for file transfer and I’m just glad that’s over.
@MarkHardstaff-pj1fo it’s exponentially longer to use Google Drive as a middle man than to just do a direct transfer fyi I’m assuming you don’t send a lot of large files
I have an iPhone 11 Pro Max with a ton of extra unused memory. I want to back up the Notes app and the photos. Would this gadget help me? I need the battery replaced and I have extensive notes saved in the app that I don’t want to lose.
This is a helpful video with a warning. Do not use these Sandisk drives. You might be ok if you have an older version 1 drive, but the new version 2 drives have a high failure rate. There are plenty of RU-vid videos to back me up on this. I have experienced the pain of this personally. Luckily, I never back up to just one place.
You are absolutely correct on this! Redundancy when it comes to your Photos/footage is super important. I try to save my Videos and Photos in at least two places (iCloud & a storage device) that way if one fails I have a backup. I have experience the pain of losing important footage and it is a massive bummer.
@@SamuelGarcia-rf4th I’m not sure why it fails but like I said, there are plenty of RU-vid videos about it. That’s how I found out. I have two Samsung T7’s 4GB drives and they have been solid so far
For some reason I cannot get my Extreme SSD to show up in the files app on my iPhone... but if I can figure that out I'm sure this will be and excellent way to move the photos and videos.
Which iPhone are you using? If it is older than an iPhone 15 you will need to use the process in this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-BlXJaQ706vM.htmlsi=O1gSna3ZHegXpt0i Hopefully that helps!

Great question, here is the work around for iphone 14 and older: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-BlXJaQ706vM.htmlsi=sg9ONXmLbgrf7YTe If you use the method in that video it will work with your iPhone 14 pro
I have created a similar video for iPhones that are older than iPhone 15’s, here is the link! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-BlXJaQ706vM.htmlsi=_GMp1e1Vzv9OZiM9
I have a Iphone 14 Pro Max. Wanting to free up space for an upcoming trip to Kenya. Do the photos get transferred across and then go off the phone? As in - not just copied across?
Great question, with this process they are just copied across. You would then need to go into your device and delete from there. I will mention, as with any storage device it is important to have some redundancy. Meaning you don't want to have all your files saved in ONE location in case there is some kind of failure with your storage device. This can happen and that is a big bummer when you lose footage/photos that you wanted to keep.
Hello ! I have Seagate HDD and iPhone 13. Can I connect Seagate HDD with iPhone 13? As people around me says its risky to connect HDD with your phones. So I never used it directly. Please tell me what to do.
Hi, I was trying to follow the instructions on your video, but when I got to browser, the icon for my external hardrive does not show....do you know why?
Hi. Not sure if you’ve already answered this one …. If the full resolution image or video is only in iCloud does the process download from iCloud first before copying to hard drive. Thanks
Hey! I’m having an issue with my files being transferred as HEIC file type, and not a JPEG. Is there anything I can do to have them transferred as a jpeg?
Hi By any chance do you recommended better a WD hard drive instead also mine comes only with usb external connector do you think if I purchased the usb to usbc adapter works Also after transfer doesn’t loose quality videos and photos ? Thanks for the help
I can see pain in this man’s eyes. Thank god you found solution 🤣 just kidding Thanks this is great video I have iPhone 14 and I don’t have usb c What adapter do you recommend?
Yes, that has been the great part about this SSD. As long as you have an iPhone 15 you can connect this SSD and move photos onto it in .jpg format. It has made move photos and videos from my iPhone onto a hard drive much easier! Hope that helps.
Do you know of a way to take photos stored on an external hard drive and then move them into photos on iphone 15? So far I've only been able to move them into "files". then open each photo one by one and have it save to photos. PITA Ultimately, I'd like the photos to end up in icloud and not icloud drive.. thanks... good vid!
This video is the one I’ve been searching for all this time! I used a LaCie drive and it worked perfectly. You found the magic formula for getting videos off an iPhone!
Thanks for the Info you’ve provided dude. I have an iPhone 15 Pro Max, & I take pics & record a lot of videos. This’ll definitely help with storage, & save me money, by not having to buy more iCloud storage. 😂😂😂
Thanks at least there is a select all. I feel like I need to make an app for this ridiculous mess. There should be a sync process where you can just copy files to a folder with one click. Maybe an automatic script could be done... Hmmm. Now I'm thinking out aloud
Little bit of a longer answer here. Whenever I am moving Photos/videos I like to make sure I have redundancy in the places that those photos or videos are held. For me I have them in iCloud plus the SSD. Another option is to have 2 hard drives that you save to. I only say this because it can be agonizing to lose all your photos/videos if you have a storage device fail.
For phones that are older then and iPhone 15 you will need to follow this process right here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-BlXJaQ706vM.htmlsi=AcDK96ycz1QHeIrI Hopefully that helps!
This works great with the original SanDisk SSD, the one with the 4 sided carabineer hole. However, it doesn't work with the new , higher speed model (with the triangular carabineer hole). I suspect that the newer model requires more USB power than the original, and that the iPhone can't provide the the needed power. Regardless, great tip for the video crowd. Jim
Super. Now, if you could help me do that with an iPhone X that doesn't show anything on the screen, isn't backed up and is really moody at switching on - and remember the screen shows absolutely nothing. Tough challenge I know.
Dang, that is a tricky one. I can tell you that anything earlier than an iPhone 15 will need an adapter in order to connect to the SSD. That may help you a bit, but sounds like it won’t solve the rest of your issues.
Great video - Thanks. I have a couple of questions please. Firstly, did you have to format the SSD drive before you could transfer ? - Secondly, I understand the 15 pro and pro Max can record directly to an external SSD but only (as I understand it) when using pro res and Apple Log format. Do you happen to know if I want to record say in 4k 60fps if that resolution will transfer in real time also?
If you are still trying to figure out how to do this with your 13 Pro you will need to follow these steps: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-BlXJaQ706vM.htmlsi=FiWZTLJkO3J39NQ8 Hopefully that helps!
Can this process be done with an iPhone 11 Pro? Of course, it has a Lightning connector instead of USB-C but is there any other reason (e.g., iOS version) that might prevent this? I’ve been wanting to offload ALL my photos/screenshots from my iPhone to my iMac but have never found a way to do it without multiple steps.
Which iPhone are you using? If it is older than an iPhone 15 you will need to follow these instructions: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-BlXJaQ706vM.htmlsi=FiWZTLJkO3J39NQ8 Hopefully that helps!
What generation of iPhone works that way? I tried on Pro Max 13 and the hard drive never shows up. Does it have to be the cable that came with the SSD or will the Apple cable work?
Thanks for the comment! Here is the work around for iphone 14 and older: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-BlXJaQ706vM.htmlsi=sg9ONXmLbgrf7YTe If you use the method in that video I linked above it will work with your iPhone 11 pro max
I have this same SSD, though it's 500GB. I have the iPhone 13 Pro, but on connecting SSD and iPhone it doesn't list the Extreme SSD under Locations, so this is no good at all.
You are correct, with anything older than an iPhone 15 you will need to use the process in this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-BlXJaQ706vM.htmlsi=dkRAMHeL3TVat_FJ
This was perfect!!! I was just needing to know a method to transfer pix off my daughters iPhone to an external hard drive (SAMSUNG SSD T7) and your tutorial worked perfectly.
I am mightily confused & I am clearly not following correctly despite repeating the steps numerous times. I can transfer the videos into my iPhone files, but this does not transfer them into the hard drive. How do I move them from the Files to the hard drive? Can someone please explain? Apologies for my idiocy.
I have an iPhone (original) and an iPhone 5s, they both have uploaded music direct CD to iTunes and on to those iPhones. My music has been acquired by Apple from those CD’s, that I uploaded from a computer CD drive to iTunes, yet Apple doesn’t allow me access to those CD’s unless I pay a Music Fee. You say, but you’re paying for music they uploaded, and I say, not necessarily true. One song I uploaded in 2007 had a “glitch” in the first 30 seconds that was due to a mechanical/electronics issue with my computer. The glitch was a musical chirp that was there in my upload, but not on my cd ghat repeated when I played the CD on other CD players. Because the glitch blended with the music, I paid no attention to it. But it was a smoking gun that Apple was accumulating music from Apple iTunes users. Bruce Willis had a similar problem with Apple, so he sued Apple.
You did not cover the drive format that the iPhone uses. Ive used NTSF and FAT 32. FAT is limited to 3.whatever gigabytes. and NTSF will not let you transfer data but one can access files. The best format to use is EXfat.
You can also save directly to the external HD without the need to transfer. See how to “save files and photos directly to external HD” This will require having the external HD plugged into the iPhone at the time you're filming or taking pictures.
Nice video! Thanks! Can I do the same thing with iTunes music? I have a new iPhone 15 plus and all the music from my iPhone 7 plus which I purchased from iTunes transferred to the new iPhone except the ones I downloaded from my CD’s collection didn’t transfer. Can you help me with this? Thanks!
Are you still left with the original videos/photos on the iPhone? I would like to be able to MOVE the designated files and get them OFF of the iPhone for good.
Unfortunately it just "copies" the files over. Frustrating I know. What you would need to do is complete the copy of the files to the hard drive/ssd and then go and remove them from your phone. I would also suggest having 2 different locations where files can be save simply because ssd's & hard drives can fail and it is a huge bummer to lose all of your files!
Hello, I am needing your advice..... I have an Iphone 15 pro... I have a Scan disk drive like you in this video. I worked for my the first 2 times I used it now when I tried it the 3rd time I am getting a message that I need to let Microsoft Photos have access. I haven't changed anything on my computer since the other 2 times and I don't know what to do. Any thoughts or advice???
Great question! Here is a video I made for phone that have the lightening cable: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-BlXJaQ706vM.html Let me know if this works!
Do you know you can drag and drop between apps? After selecting your photos/videos from the photos app, touch and hold, slightly move them and then, while still holding the photos/videos switch apps and drop them on your files app.
I have iPhone 15 pro and same hard drive. Hoping to find a vid like yours. Followed your instructions but it does not show up in files. Rebooted. Took case off. Have a solid connection but does not work
Which iPhone do you have? If it is older than an iPhone 15 you will need to follow the instructions in this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-BlXJaQ706vM.htmlsi=FiWZTLJkO3J39NQ8 Hopefully that helps!
In what format should the SSD be formatted so that it is also compatible with Windows? And is it also possible for the iPhone to play large videos from the SSD without any problem?
Amazing video! But do you know the best way to transfer pic from SSD to Iphone instead? Im currently using the same method but in reverse - which isnt the best as i have thousands of videos and pictures from the ssd and it takes quite a while to transfer and more often than not the transfer failed halfway, corrupting all the transferred files so eventually ill have to start again but in way way smaller batches (100pic each) which takes up too much time. Would appreciate if there is any better way at all! Thank you!
Why not just use Image Capture and select a specific folder on any of the drives attached to your computer? That way you don't have to unplug any drives.
Good question. I explain that a little in a different video I did linked here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-BlXJaQ706vM.html In short simply exit out of the applications and then turn off your iPhone. Then removed the SSD or Hard drive
i liked this video & it brings up a problem i have been dealing with. i want to move my whole icloud photos folder to an external drive similar the the model you used. Can i drag the whole icloud folder onto my external drive drive & then upload those photos to my permanent cloud storage?
You can, however, I would suggest having some redundancy. Saving your photos and videos in 2 different places is usually smart in case one things stops working or you lose one.
A question here .. did you have to reformat the SSD before you connected it to the iPhone ? I saw another channel that recommended to format to ex-FAT ?
Why don't you disconnect your iPhone directly to the PC and use it image program to import the files directly to a location on the PC. Why use an external hard drive?
I have a few of those SanDrives and for some reason they won't mount randomly. Have to keep reformatting them. I don't even trust them for backups anymore. Doesn't matter if I use the Pro brand or the regular ones.
What if you want to export 19k photos and videos 😢apple was not a good help 😣i have a mac and i told them why cant i just copy and paste all of them to the drive but they said some will be small size and quality will be bad so idk which way would be best to transfer my photos and then they said i have to change the format of the drive and then i asked them can i access these photos in any computer they said no only mac
