I have a X738 and it's a beast at plowing snow. I near destroyed an asphalt driveway with my gx345 and a snow thrower with chains, the chains are what tore up the driveway. This X738 in 3 years had pushed everything I needed without chains

I have both the blower and the extended blade for my 2015 x739. I live in northeast Canada, we get serious snow here. Unless there's more than a foot of snow, I prefer the blade; it's much faster to clear. The only trouble I've encountered is with snow packing into the cavity for the left/right control, snow can go over the top of the blade and fall into there, or when back scraping. The hydraulic heat turns packed snow into ice and it doesn't take too long before the left/right function doesn't work very well and will eventually not work at all...then you have to go into there and melt the ice with a torch (or wait for Spring). My solution is to liberally spray the cavity beforehand with a silicone-based anti-icing agent, that way the snow won't pack and stick in the cavity.

I love my blade and x590 combination. I replaced the cutter edge with one of the plastic bars and it works great with zero concern of damaging my exposed aggregate driveway. The neighbors appreciate my doing the entire street long before we ever seen a plow, and my machine does a much better job. In fact, I just ordered a replacement plastic bar from you, after seven years I figured its about time. The HDAP tires are great in the snow and the turf with no need for chains.

I have a JD 738 with the same plow and I love the tractor and plow. Does a great job with heavy wet snow. I also have a JD 1025R with a snow blower. If I was younger and needed to replace them, I wouldn't even give it a second thought. I live in Northern Maine and these machines should be the first priority on things to own.

Thanks from another Maine resident. We're trying to decide between a 500 and 700 series to be used for mulching a 1 acre lawn; carting gardening soil, mulch and supplies to several perennial and vegetable garden beds; plus snow plowing. Our driveway is about 40 yards long and relatively steep, at a 15-20 degree incline, and there is a medium paved area in front of our 3 garage bays. We're handy but not especially mechanically inclined. I will be doing most of this work, and I am a petite female. Would appreciate if you would share the negatives of the 500 to help us make this important decision. Thanks!

I am transitioning to a rider from a walk-behind snow blower and I'm wanting to learn as much as possible to decide if I want to go to a blower or blade type of set up, and the best way to run those set-ups... every little thing I can learn now is a plus for me later! Thank you for the instruction-type of video! Nice!

This winter we’re getting quite a bit of snow in Iowa. 3 to 5” more expected today. My X585 4x4 with 48” blade keeps me happy doing my drive and the drive/parking area of our rental property and a couple neighbors. The Deere X series are legit. Really appreciate your channel.

Excellent video and nice tractor! The word you're looking for is "lockout valve" That valve locks out the mow-deck lift cylinder so you have full hydraulics for snow ops. Also, try bungee-cording your suitcase weights so they don't rattle. Thanks for the vid!

I have an X540 with the snowplow and snowblower, really prefer using the snowplow, but here in Maine, I have to be prepared for that big snow storm. Would love to have an X738 or X758. I have a 200+ ft sloping gravel driveway, so could really use the 4WD or maybe a 1023e. Enjoy watching you push around the fluff you are calling snow, we get that up here too, but also ice and all kinds of nasty weather.

Looks like a fun toy! Lot of money for very limited snow moving ability though. 77 Cj Jeep bought for 600 bucks. 304 V8 will push 3 foot deep heavy snow and never gasp for air. John deere machines last a long time though.

Yeah, it was not cheap, no doubt about it, haha! But, it can mow all summer long, pick up leaves in the spring and fall with the bagger too. Mow a few other lawns, do a few cleanups each year, and plow a few neighbors during the winter and you've got a year round money making tool. Lots of ways to view things I suppose. Thanks for watching and have a great day!

I have an x758 with the same setup less plow extensions. My dealer sold me tire chains with the package...they're still sitting in the bags they came in almost 2 years ago. Someday I'd like to get the blower though since I've had piles that got too big to manage. I also welded up some forks for my hydro unit so I can tote around pallets and other large objects. Fabricobbled a front mount John Deere thatcher for the unit as well. These tractors are awesome.
@GoodWorksTractors
@GoodWorksTractors 6 лет назад
Wow, I can't believe they sold you chains! I'd like a blower on mine as well, but I just don't really want to change back and forth between equipment if I don't have to. However, if there's only an inch or two, some guys will just push the snow around with the blower until it gets into a big enough pile to blow away. For being a garden tractor, it's amazing what these machines can do! If they would have made a AWS version of the X758, then I would have got that. My AWS works perfectly around my trees and landscape edging.
@DynaLowrider
@DynaLowrider 6 лет назад
Good Works Tractors to his credit he did say that I'd likely never need them but it's better to have them just in case. I specifically bought this 4x4 tractor with the intent to cultivate some of the land on my property in the future and some of it is pretty swampy. I almost bought a 1000 series (which would have been cheaper!) but the x-Series tractors mow better...which is my primary usage. The 4 wheel steering definitely makes a difference in maneuvering. Pretty neat that you can retain a ton of snow on the blade while making a tight turn.

Enjoyed the video. I live in the country area on private property. What type of snow plow is a good recommendation to use for our lane that's not black top or stone. When it snows unless someone comes to make tracks we're stuck. We're willing to invest in a snow plow just wondering what type and size

Hi, Great Video, I am buying a house on a hill with a 400 ft dirt driveway that i will need to plow/snowblow and 2 acres of lawn. Do you think I would be able to go with this model or should i buy a Deere 1025R or even a 2025R? I realize there is a massive price difference. Thanks.

I think it does depend on your budget and if you have other landscaping needs such as gardening, tree removal, wood hauling, etc. A loader is a very useful tool. If you can get by without one, then a X700 Series tractor will make a great machine to mow and handle snow removal. You may want to consider a snowblower though instead of a plow blade with that long of a driveway unless you have ample room to store your snow.

Not bashing your video, just that it's easier pushing snow downhill. My neighbor uses a quad with a plow and he has a hard time. His gravel driveway is cambered and not flat and his is a longer driveway. I need to plow a 1/4 acre distance in front of my home that is gravel.

Why would you try to make it harder to push snow? Use every advantage you can all the time unless you like to make life harder for yourself :)

so for your drive do you prefer the plow or snow pushers better?
@GoodWorksTractors
@GoodWorksTractors 5 лет назад
Good question. Plows always seem to leave windrows. Pushers don't as often. However, I do love using the x739 and can't wait to use it again. Pushers are simply all around great tools for tractors with loaders.

@GoodWorksTractors
@GoodWorksTractors 4 года назад
I've definitely pushed 10" or more. Hoping to make a video this year if we get a big snow. Just been a crappy year for snow so far. I am confident it'll handle any amount of snow that we'd see around here. It will struggle at times when you end up with some big piles that you want to move around. I just bite off the chunks it can handle at that point.
@steveflewelling67
@steveflewelling67 5 лет назад
How does it plow a foot of snow ,good video
@GoodWorksTractors
@GoodWorksTractors 5 лет назад
It'll handle as much snow as you can give it on the driveway. It's got plenty of weight and traction with the tires and ballast. The problem is dealing with the big piles after repeated snows. You can't push the snow up very high so make sure you push the snow way back off the drive in the beginning of winter to give plenty of room for snows later in the winter.

Was wondering how big is the diameter of your hydraulic sleeve protector covers? I was looking too purchase some but wasn't sure how'they are measured for size.. lot's of sizes on line but they really don't explain how you measure them.. my lines are marked 1/4 inch but are bigger than that of you measure around the outside? What size would I need to order for my JD X475 front Quick hitch lines?

I have a question that I have been wondering about for a while. I have a 2003 X585 that is in great shape with the exception of the seat. Do you know if a seat like you have on your 739 would fit on the 585? It looks way more comfortable than what came with it. I know the seat costs a small fortune, but for the comfort, it might be worth it.
@GoodWorksTractors
@GoodWorksTractors 5 лет назад
That's a good question and I'm not sure the answer. I don't have those units side by side to look at unfortunately. However, this website lists models from several generations as a "fit" for the same seat so I'd say there's a good chance that seats from different generations are compatible. Definitely no a scientific answer, but might help? seat-warehouse.com/product/yellow-seat-john-deere-x-485495575585595720724728740744748729749-dn/

When you push that float lever into the float position, is the lever supposed to stay stuck in the float position? Mine is popping back into place after the attachment comes down.
@GoodWorksTractors
@GoodWorksTractors 4 года назад
Hi Bob, it should stay in float until you pull it back out of that position. Makes me think something needs some grease or penetrating oil. Most likely just some gunk preventing it from fulling engaging.

Only bummer is bigger snows and once the piles start getting big you can't really stack. But that could just b cause I'm OCD and like hand shoveling. My rig isn't this nice either. I have a craftsmen that's like 7 years old with a non hydrolic plow.
@GoodWorksTractors
@GoodWorksTractors 6 лет назад
You're totally right. This is only our second winter in this home. I've started being more strategic on where I place the snow. We had a ton in December and I had to pull out a tractor with a loader to scoop it up and move it. However, that all melted away, but now the piles are back although they're in different spots and I pushed them back as far as possible this time. I should be good for the rest of the winter. We've had 8" of snow this week and calling for 6-10" by tomorrow night! Can't wait to plow in the morning, haha!
@mikedickey4952
@mikedickey4952 6 лет назад
Nice. We just got a new driveway that is huuuge and I can only push the snow one way. If we get a big snow I usually use the tractor in random with a snowblower. Just push it into a big pile then blow it as far into the yard as I can. Could you bust it across the street or this neighbors not appreciate that soo much?
@GoodWorksTractors
@GoodWorksTractors 6 лет назад
Haha, nice! I am a little bit anal about my lawn. My neighbor's plow guy thought it would be okay to push the snow into my lawn last year and he tore up a bunch of turf. He didn't care that I had about 10 stakes marking it off. He plowed those over too. The neighbors were nice enough to complain to the plow guy, but I figure I don't want to make the same mistake. I'll figure out a place to put my snow on my lot, they can do the same! :)

How do you like that blade vs blower? Minus cost
@GoodWorksTractors
@GoodWorksTractors 5 лет назад
We get some really big snows here, but also a lot of 2-4" snows. The plow excels in the small snows compared to a blower. My driveway turns into a sheet of ice so I need to keep it clear even if there is only an inch that's fallen.

Guys I have a commercial lot with roughly 5000 sqft parking lot for loading docks/trucks. I know it sounds like a larger number, but I can snowblow 6' snow in around 2.5 hours. Obviously for heavier stuff we need plowing...but my question is would you purchase something like this (we have an adjacent .25 acre lot of grass enclosure).....Is there UTILITY in tractor machines and attachments for someone in my range?? I mean 8-15K sounds awfully expensive, c. We spend an average of $800 annually on plowing (only $300 this year) in Mass, but cost savings will be higher if I didn't have to spend time there to do it.. Thanks for any feedback
