So the jury feels an elderly retired cop is entitled to shoot and kill a man because he had his cell phone light on in the theater? They have to live with the fact that they set a murderer free. With all the witness testimony and evidence he should have been found guilty. I would love to hear why these jurors thought he wasn't

I also have more training than the police academy requires for officers to graduate. I also went to the effort to become a certified instructor, in firearms. In the end, with 27 years of law enforcement he should have done better. The verdict really surprised me. This guy is completely guilty & it is disgraceful & a grave miscarriage of justice! How can the jury allow this kind of behaviour, ending in the loss of life, to go unpunished? This sends out a very dangerous message that even a completely irrelevant conflict can have a fatal outcome &, if the perpetrator just claims self-defence, they will be acquitted. The fact that the victim may or may not have sworn at Reeves is also completely irrelevant & absolutely ridiculous to even bring it up as justification for Reeves to shoot him. What next???

I worry about juries. They get it crazy wrong so often. Instead of seeing an “elderly man with a cane” in front of them, they should consider he’s a long-time LEO who has 30 or so years of having people do exactly as they’re told when and how they’re told … who was armed at a movie theater: A man who seriously over reacted bc: A) the guy had his cell phone out in the theater (RUDE: some people actually enjoy the previews, take your FB and all-important texting out to the lobby = zero incident 🤦🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️👍🏼) B) the retired, but always a, LEO gave a direct order C) that command was ignored D) the “perpetrator” (in the mind of the retired LEO) gave hime some guff… Bang. Everyone from the theater who testified said “you’re gonna throw POPCORN at ME?!!! “ or some iteration of that, proves the old man was furious not frightened; was posturing not petrified… Juries seem to be incapable of finding little old men and “mothers” guilty of anything when in fact, they’re just as dangerous as any other murderer.

I watched this trial and thought something important was missed because of the poor imagining. Based on timing I don't believe Reeves had time to reach into his pants and withdraw the gun, as he said. I think he possibly already had the gun out, in his lap. I don't know if this would have changed the outcome of the trial. My hunch is consistent with comments by others who recounted hostile encounters with Reeves, one declaring he was intent on shooting someone.

Disappointing but not surprising. They were never going to find him guilty. Many of them probably identified with him as a grandfatherly type, someone who reminded them of their own grandpa. And, they likely felt, their grandfather would never hurt anyone maliciously. Certainly never kill anyone like this old man was accused of. Also, the very fact that he's old sometimes deters juries from putting someone behind bars for the rest of their lives. Most people don't want to put elderly people behind bars or they think there's no point because they're so old they probably only have a few years left. He probably won't do it again after all this, right? So, what's the point? That kind of thing. It's too bad, but I never expected him to be convicted. He was always going to get to walk his daughter down the aisle at her wedding. His victim will never get to do that for his daughter, though.

The trial was excellent. Horrendously sad, and imo totally avoidable. Both parties over reacted to each other and it escalated.

I don't think it's fair to 'both sides' this case. One guy threw a bag of popcorn. The other murdered a man.

Fortunately popcorn was never thrown at him during his career. He would have retired as a babbling idiot. Either a murderer or a dolt.

How about I'm sorry for using the phone. Let's all watch a movie now. Could have been different.

That SYG law is so flawed. Just because something scares you, that shouldn't give you the right to shoot someone unarmed....but I guess it does.

The officer may have thought he may get shot during the victim was throwing the popcorns. They are trained people. They leather and faced too many risks.

Chad Olsen reached over to the defendant, then grabbed and tossed his popcorn on the ground. That is bold!

Moral of the story. When you go to a movie, watch the movie. If you want to use your cellphone, use it outside, switch it off then return to your seat and do what you came for - not to disturb others but to watch a movie.

Retired cop ignored the sign, ‘no guns’ he took the law into his own hands & murdered a man. Justice was not served

This is an outrageous miscarriage of justice. In that moment, Reeves was an angry person who shot because he felt disrespected. -A former cop with a "shoot first, ask questions later" mentality.

I know someone like the "popcorn thrower." If people like this can't control their behaviors and reactions, it is bound to happen. Back off, be humble, and protect your wife and children.

Was the popcorn loaded with butter & salt? Statistics has shown that is unhealthy even deadly. This was justified self defense. Had salad been tossed, murder.
