By far my favorite war movie. I love that the main character is just a normal guy, not some demigod warrior hero. Strikes a balance between honoring duty and sacrifice while not glorifying war.

If I was going to recommend a movie it would have to be The Lost Battalion. A 2001 American war drama television film about the US 77th Division's Lost Battalion during World War I, which was cut off and surrounded by German forces in the Argonne Forest during the Meuse-Argonne Offensive of 1918. The film was directed by Russell Mulcahy, written by James Carabatsos, and stars Rick Schroder as Major Charles Whittlesey. The film was shot in Luxembourg. It is an A&E Original Movie, premiering on the network on December 2, 2001. A PS, "Ideals and abstinence are peaceful, History and Creation are violent".

That Tiger tank is the real deal unlike the one they used in saving private Ryan, it’s the only operational one in the world. It’s got a interesting story behind it, it’s Tiger tank 131 and was captured by the British in the deserts of Africa in 1941 I believe and now lives in the Boddington tank museum in England along with Fury. It’s also suppose to haunted.

Brad Pitt's character and some of the events in the movie are loosely based around a real tank commander in WW2 who had the famous nickname "War Daddy". I would highly recommend you watch the video The Fat Electrician made about him not too long ago. A cool tank movie that I like is "T-34" or "Iron Fury", it's a Russian WW2 movie with some really cool tank action and slow-mo shots. Last I checked, Amazon Prime had it with a pretty good English voice dub.

I watched a guy who's been in country on several tours describe the interaction of the scene with the women and the meal. He had a very interesting take on it. His take was that each of the characters were reacting to the trauma (PTSD) of what they've gone through in war in their own personal way. Bible delves into his faith. Top just wants to feel normal and forget for awhile. Gordo has to talk through his trauma cause he's still not sure what to do with it. Grady deals with the PTSD by just getting as obnoxious, nasty and ugly as possible. And then there's Norman who's experiencing all of this for the first time still relatively untouched by war watching all of this unfold in front of him...we witness his own trauma occur right in front of us. I thought his take was interesting, insightful and certainly believable as this is something most of us have fortunately have never dealt with. FWIW.

I’d recommend the 2019 movie Midway - it’s bombastic, chaotic, huge battles and surprisingly accurate, because when you watch it it’s so cinematic and “big” it can be easy to say did that really happen? But yes, would really recommend Midway - does justice to one of the most climactic moments in the Pacific

It's a great movie. It does sort of make it sound like the US was getting wasted by Tiger thanks. In reality, by the time US forces were in France, they didn't run into many Tiger tanks. There was only 3 or 4 Tiger vs. Sherman battles in the ETO.

Each of the tank crew is actually based on a real person, although the rookie gunner was a skilled veteran but he looked young, so they called him 'Schoolboy'. The loader got rotated back to the US near the end of the war and the new replacement of him was almost instantly killed and it was in part due to his inexperience. The real story is almost more crazy than the movie because they ambushed German supply trains, one of them stored women's clothing which they looted and brought to Belgium to give to the girls in town 😂

Here's a few suggestions for war & war related movies for you: All Quiet On The Western Front - 1930 - A World War 1, anti-war film. This version from 1930 uses a lot of German veterans of that war. The Best Years of Our Lives - 1946 - Filmed right after the end of WW2. Depicts servicemen after the war, returning to life in the States. Downfall - 2004 - German language film (with subtitles) about the last days of Hitler. The Great Escape - 1963 - Kind of a "standard WW2 movie that everyone should see at least once". About Allied POW's in a German prison camp, and their escape. Loosely based on a real event, with the main characters being composites of actual men. Joyeux Noel - 2005 - World War 1 movie about an interesting occurrence that took place in that war's first Christmas. The events depicted really happened, but the movie compresses many different occurrences from different areas into one area for the sake of the movie. A Midnight Clear - 1992 - A fictitious story that takes place during WW2. Excellent story! More "heart & soul" than hate & shooting. The Monuments Men - 2014 - Based on real events from WW2. Heavy Hollywood influence, but a good, compelling story about efforts to save historic artwork stolen by the Nazis. Patton - 1970 - Another "standard WW2 movie that everyone should see at least once". Some inaccuracies, but Gen. Omar Bradley was a military & historical advisor to the film. A Soldiers Story - 1984 - Another fictitious story that takes place in WW2. Basically an all black unit at a base in Louisiana in 1944 has a murder, and they need to find out who did it. Tora! Tora! Tora! - 1970 - One more standard WW2 movie. Depicts the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, and the events that led up to it. Some accuracies, some Hollywood. But a really great movie. Someone else already recommended We Were Soldiers (2002), and I second that recommendation. BONUS: Tell It To The Marines - 1926 - A silent film, that was the first film made with the cooperation of the United States Marine Corps. Gen. Smedley Butler was a technical consultant to the film. And the star, Lon Cheney was the first actor to be made an honorary Marine for his outstanding portrayal of his character.

yes! thank you for commenting on the Tigers size! So many others haven't lol. Despite all the challenges the Tiger faced when making it to the frontlines with engine and transmission issues, an armored battalion with a Tiger, in most cases many Tigers, was probably the most feared thing of WWII. The Tiger alone was so dreaded that in 44' during the Normandy landings, they spotted a lone Tiger sometime away and they had three entire armored companies refuse to engage it. They had to call in planes to bomb it to get rid of it. Another famous tank that was slightly better which was in my opinion the best WWII tank(as far as armor, firepower, etc.) was the Panther. Shermans were the best because of numbers and reliability, the Panther was superior in armor and firepower, but lacked numbers. Around 6,000 were produced and only 2,500 made it to the frontlines. But both the Panther and Tiger were extremely devastating tanks when they got to the position they needed to hold As far as the movie is concerned, Tiger crews were trained to destroy the front tank then the last tank to trap the remaining tanks in the middle. And even if they did take out the back one first, once they noticed Brad Pitt's tank Fury had a muzzle brake and a longer barrel, they wouldn't instantly went for it first as it had the 76mm gun which was more capable of taking out enemy armor than the 75mm Shermans were. Peterson's Sherman was actually a 76mm Sherman too, which might explain why they went for that one since their gun was closer to his and they might not have noticed Fury's larger cannon until they got close, still taking a shot at the 75mm Sherman in the middle and taking it out since the gun had to go past them to get to Fury. The one shot Fury made right before Peterson was hit directly with the Tigers 88mm gun, would've penetrated depending on the type of round and if they were facing completely head on with it, which they weren't. They were at a slight angle causing the shell to not penetrate and deflect. Assuming they were using normal armor piercing rounds that is.

War daddy was a real person fury however was not the tanks name it went by a different name and this dude was an absolute legend at that final battle they ended up taking out something like 300 soldiers with their battered tank. And I could be remembering but I think during this whole exchange the Germans thought they were being attacked from multiple different positions because of the speed at which they were firing the tanks shells.

Try "All Quiet on the Western Front" 1930 edition. The acting is good and the effects are quite good for the era. Also, "Wings" 1927. This is a silent film about aviators in WWI and features what were innovative shots, such as the swing, the long traveling shot in the club, and of course the filming on the planes. "Danger Close" about the Australians in the Vietnam War. This was one of their largest battles. Norman's experience was not uncommon. Many untrained men ended up in the infantry or tanks because casualties were higher than expected and there weren't enough trained men coming through the system to replace them. By trained I mean specialist infantry or tankers. I have read accounts of repaired tanks being given crews of untrained or mostly untrained men and sent off to fight in Normandy. They didn't last long.

16:25 For what it's worth, the German soldier was wearing a US army jacket, which means that, under the terms of the Geneva Convention, he was wearing the uniform of an enemy soldier and thus committing the crime of perfidy. The German soldier, by doing so, thus forfeits any rights as a prisoner. Technically speaking, Norman thus didn't commit a war crime.
@Amrod97
@Amrod97 3 месяца назад
Overinterperation, a random soldier can't kill an enemy soldier just like that. The death penalty must be issued by a court martial otherwise it is a simple war crime. Besides, no one would convict him for wearing a raincoat alone. It must be a full uniform with decorations suggesting rank.

Ok so…in reference to Don forcing Norman to kill that German soldier Whilst I totally understand why he did it and I 100% agree that if your in a war, you need to see the opposing side as the enemy and therefore you are going to have to kill Simone eventually BUT imo atleast……the issue is that tho that was “the enemy” at that particular moment the German seems to have already surrendered, he had no weapons and was on his knees. Now imo, that is a completely different thing. Which I think is why Norman was so adamant about not killing him, tho I’m sure he’d rather not do it at all, in either situation but especially opposed to killing that German on his knees.🤷‍♀️🤔🤨

Also, almost forgot……right at the end you were talking about how good the acting was, especially Shia Labeouf’s performance…then you said that you weren’t sure if it was just you who thought he stood out and he was just sooo good in this. Well as for me? I 100% agree and it’s definitely not just us…as pretty much in every “reaction” I’ve seen (dozens of them btw😅) they bring his amazing performance up which is kinda crazy considering how absolutely stacked this cast is ffs!😉 Not only that…but every single one of the actors are at their peak here! i love this movie, but some of the small details they didnt do right bother me. Such as the Tiger fight. 1) German tank commander wouldn't have been dumb enough to charge out like that, especially against an Easy 8 like Fury. Fury's gun was a 76mm; and they would've been issued HVAP rounds, easily capable of penetrating that Tiger from the front, especially at that close of a range. 2) they made the Tiger gunner either the most inexperienced person on the planet with those reload times, or it was plot armor.

I really just wish that the folks making this film had not been so quick to make so many unrealistic choices in depicting the tank combat and a few other things...it is such a great movie in so many ways but could have been so much better. David Ayer is a really good director, but it seems like he should probably not try to deal with historical subjects...considering his work on his other WW2 movie U-571 is even more inaccurate than this film. I fully appreciate that some things have to be different than actual history sometimes, but this movie did a few too many things that are just completely against the real history for seemingly no real reason. There are such great acting performances in this movie, but it could have been so much better if they had gone the realistic route. IMHO

As brutal as the scene is where Brad Pitt makes Norman shoot the German in the back, it is actually based on military law at the time. As the German solider has a US army issue coat on, he is essentially disguising himself as his enemy. Any soldier caught doing this during wartime was treated as a war criminal and not a regular soldier and forfeited any protection under the Geneva convention. As such, they were punished accordingly, which normally meant execution…

I heard that Tiger was real and the last operating Tiger in Europe. It was on loan from the German military tank museum. They pretty much captured the only thing Shermans could do against a Tiger in open field. Spread out and use their speed and numbers to get behind it. The 75mm on the regular Sherman could not penetrate the Tiger's front and part of the side armor. The panzerfaust scene is heart breaking. When the Allies took Aachen many Hitler Youth went on suicide attacks and took out Shermans by the bushel before getting gunned down.

yes a normal Sherman wouldn't but fury isn't a normal Sherman. Fury's 76mm gun should be able to penetrate a tigers front armor from at least a few hundred meters. Also fun fact the 75mm HE was actually better than 76mm HE, the 76mm needed a thicker shell wall due to it being high velocity and as such had less room for the HE filling.
