I was not quite expecting the comedy, or maybe satire, experience that we got. Once I let the movie be what it is without questioning how I should be reacting to the scene it was enjoyable. I adored some of the characters. How they let Jojo be Jojo, and they let themselves be themselves, and it all mingled together really well. Enjoy!

The movie genre is satire. And the comedy parts make the emotional parts hit even harder. When I realized that the hung his mom, I started crying. This film is excellent.

Your statement “Once I let the movie be what it is without questioning how I should be reacting....” is powerful and, in my opinion, the proper response to the art of film. I know many people who won’t watch it simply based on the Hitler/Nazi imagery from the marketing campaign and thinking its going to be a mockery of the Holocaust. This is a film that needs to be seen.
@BelleLifeisinBloom

Thank-you very much for your response. It makes me wonder how much I have missed in movies because I try to understand them from my worldview, which makes sense, but that's not what movies are for. They're telling a story. And maybe it's one you find difficult to understand but that's a good thing. I'm always looking to relate to a character or admire a character and I'm sure I've lost the beauty in films because of it.

@@sfodd1979 No. Don´t be a fool who falls into peer pressure and starts to do what everyone else tells him/her to, don´t be an insecure kid who wants to play with guns and wear "cool" uniforms to feel bigger, don´t let yourself get caught in these new nazi-like political movements to the point where you don´t realize that what you´re saying is ridiculous... Among many others.
@sfodd1979
@sfodd1979 3 года назад
No, specifically, this is anti-Nazi propaganda, as described by the Director. It's not as general as you are saying. This movie is shaming Nazism, on account of it's modern resurgence in the US. The literal point of the movie is that Nazis, past and by extension present, are bad. You're taking it too generally. This film targets Nazism, as an evil. Waititi has said, as much and it's obvious. It doesn't make Nazis look good, but what does? It's anti-Nazi, through and through. That's the point, it's not an essay on peer pressure or propaganda, per the writer/director. It was a book, first, as well.

Such a film shouldn't be needed, but sadly, in these times, Taika Waititi, who is of Jewish descent felt it was. I concur with him.
@sfodd1979
@sfodd1979 3 года назад
Ya, this is a movie made by a Jewish person worried about Nazis, in the modern day. Because they are still a thing, and they shouldn't be. So he made a movie giving them a black eye. It's pretty simple. Just a powerful movie, but a simple point, Nazis are bad, don't be a Nazi.

The last person to make such an attempt to make fun of the Nazi’s in such a jovial way was Mel Brooks if I recall. In EVERY spoof film that man made he always took every chance he could to make fun of the Nazi’s. And it worked REALLY well. He always believed that you take away your fear of the Nazi’s by laughing at them. Not the war itself and what came with it but the Nazi’s. (He also pretended to pants Obama so the man is as fearless as they come to NEVER be serious.)

It was frowned upon in Germany back then, and so he made that uniform as his defiant, last stand. The color scheme or design of the uniform was symbolic of that. You might be wondering why Captain K was helping Jojo (a lot of times actually). Like the time when Captain K went to Jojo's house with a bike, that was actually Rosie's bike and he came to check if Jojo's OK. Captain K also seems to be aware of what Rosie is doing too (he even let Rosie's kick slide - which an officer would normally not). Not sure if you've noticed the interactions of Captain K and Finkel. There are subtle interactions between them that point towards them being a gay couple and that they're hiding it (and they are). Nazis persecute homosexuals. With this in mind, this is why they are sympathetic towards Rosie's cause and why they helped because they know what it is to be persecuted (and they probably don't even agree with the Nazi "doctrine").

Glad to see your channel pop into my video suggestions again. You are one of my favorite reaction channels! I LOVE this film. It is the epitome of satire at its finest. Yes, as awful as that part of our history was, you can even make fun of Hitler and the Nazi Regime. I cried hard at the gut punch scene reveal of his mother hanging and he tries to tie her shoes anyway. Ughhh! This film instantly broke into my personal top five favorites of all time. Somewhere up there with "The Fisher King" (1991) which, of course, you already reacted to. Much to my delight. "Just go and shoot anyone who doesn't look like us." Is there a more appropriate line of dialogue to describe the ridiculous reasoning for war?
