Moving a pool table, 3 piece slate, AE Schmidt

It's not complicated to disassemble, move, and reassemble a billiards table. There's a few major steps, and it may take time to level it just right. Find a used pool table at a great price, and move it yourself! Save $400+ on moving costs!
There's not a whole lot of videos on how to do this. I hope this adds value to what's already it there.
New AE Schmidt billiards table costs minimum $4000, plus shipping. The further away you live, the more shipping and assembly/installation will cost. Generally, once installed, it rarely gets moved.
And you should NOT move it in one piece! It will not go up the stairs or through a normal door. Plus, you may cause damage to the table and slabs. Break it down and build it back up. Each slate piece is at least 150 lbs (mine was 162.5 lbs per slab to be exact, 3 today slabs)(and yes, I did measure it on a scale)
If you're looking for new felt/billiard cloth, be sure to get something decent. Don't waste your time and money on a $50 cheapo. I haven't purchased a new one yet, but I'd probably go for a tournament grade worsted billiard cloth. They seem to be in the range of $150-200. A couple of affiliate links listed below:

I'm the winning bid on one of these right now. $101 currently but set to go up to $300. It would be a heck of a steal.

Great video.I did the exact same thing but instead of renting a uhaul my friend with a truck said he would help if I bought him beers.I did replace felt bumpers and pockets but man the thing plays literally like new.so no regrets and would recommend for sure.

you may have done this and I missed it, but it helps to level frame before before slate goes on -- less shims needed for slate.

Thanks for the comment! We definitely didn't think to check the level of the frame! If we ever move it, I'll be sure to remember that.

great video! Very helpful because I need to move an AE Schmidt table soon. Was your cloth glued down or just pulled tight and stapled? Thanks

Hey you're welcome! It was simply pulled straight and stapled down on the sides.

Thanks for the video! I am curious as to any tips you have to transporting the slate pieces in a moving van. I assumed they were strapped down. Were they stacked on top of each other, or separately and wrapped in moving blankets? I am thinking of transporting the slate in a typical family SUV or van and was wondering if you'd recommend doing so or not. Cheers 👍

Each slate was wrapped in a moving blanket and stacked on each other in the back of the uhaul. We had a pretty short and flat trip from the estate sale to our house, so glad nothing happened! They're so heavy that they probably wouldn't shift much, unless you have steeper inclines on the way home, such as hilly roads.

@@victorn6065 Good info 👍. Makes sense they are heavy enough not to slide around. I was concerned with chipping an edge of the slate, but now that I type it out, it wouldn't. matter since its under a rail or being filled anyway 😂

@@malayaleeking yup as long as you lay them down flat, their weight and amount of surface area contact with the floor should keep them in place on their own. It's still not a bad idea, nor would it hurt if you were to strap them down, if you can.

What kind of cloth material would you recommend if I need to re-cloth my antique pool table? Thank you.
@victorn6065
@victorn6065 3 года назад
There's a specific cloth that's labeled "billiard cloth". I'd recommend getting some decent quality cloth. My own research is coming up with "worsted" cloth which has a significant amount of wool and a little bit of nylon. Make sure you know how long your pool table us so that you can but the correct length billiard cloth. A lot of places sell precut. Some people buy it extra long and cut it to size. Don't get any of the cheaper $50 ones. I'll leave an affiliate link below and in the description for one that I would try if I were shopping for a new one. Good luck! amzn.to/2TFrVuu

Champion is a good brand that will work well . If you want the best cloth you can get “Andy cloth” or “760 Simonis.”

Is 8’ ✕ 4’ ft used Brunswick a good table? With Brunswick centennial billiard balls. And ceiling lamp. . Is it a good deal for $400.

Hi Haider! I don't claim to be an expert on pool tables, but I did a quick search and 8' Brunswick tables go for sound $3000 brand new. If it's in good condition and comes with ceiling lamp, it sounds like a pretty decent deal. You might be able to negotiate it lower though. If you're not in a hurry, look/wait for another deal. Usually people who are selling their tables are very motivated. I've even seen free tables if you haul it away.

Man I hope u stretched in the cloth enuff. U DO NOT just gently pull cloth tight. You have to really stretch it in. Also u use a hot clothes iron and beeswax for the holes and slate joints. A Machinist level makes quick work of leveling everything.

Definitely not professionally done, but nice to get these kinds of details in the comments. For our purposes, it works great!
