One of those neighbors who was on his riding lawn mower cutting his yard is probably worried the old RVs will lower the property values around there and wants to nip that in the bud before any more show up. I doubt it's jealousy over his nomad live style.
plant weeds in the yard - open a flower stand out by the mail box and sell your dandelion wine with a screw you gift card of your dog going to town on your neighbor wife... I understand - have a dip shit and his wife bring me into their marriage bullshit... funny how drug addicts think that their world is what makes the world turn... boy mouth off - so I told him to go and lick his mommy pussy... hate rich bitches grown children - think they are beyond a ass beat down 😊... point is - I think your neighbors would be happy keeping you then having a person who like myself wouldn't give a crap about them.
It was the neighbors. It's always the neighbors. Cops have better things to do, for the most part, than check to see where you're sleeping tonight. 75% chance it's someone within view.
I think it's a pretty sad day when someone can't use their property as they see fit, my aunt and uncle lived in a small house and they had a small travel trailer that they would take camping every summer it was parked alongside the house, and once in a while he my uncle would go out to the trailer and have his little TV out there and his newspaper and he'd go out there and sit and watch TV so it wouldn't interfere with the TV in the house with what was playing on it, a cop come and knocked on the door and told him he couldn't stay out there in the trailer well basically he wasn't staying out there in the trailer he was just out there watching his TV and would always come into the house about 10:30 11:00 at night and go to bed, course the police officers stood there and said well you can't stay in the camper all night long my uncle said I'm not staying in the camper all night long but I do like to enjoy my solitude in my camper in the evening times when I feel fit to do so. ! It seems to me like somebody is always got to be up your yin yang telling you what you can and cannot do, when in all reality you're paying taxes on the property that you've got paying taxes for what you do have, yet somebody comes along and tells you what you can and cannot do with your own property that you bought. TOTALLY AGGRAVATING. ! 😡
The ultimate solution is move to the boonies where your nearest neighbor is at least half a mile away. The northeast is where I grew up and people there have way too much time and opportunity to harass others. They think it is their duty to police ordinance conformity. Lots of great places in flyover country, just avoid cities where liberals cluster.
Bella is such an awesome pup. What a great companion! Everything happens for a reason. Police knock just gets you moving faster than planned. Coachman is really looking great! You are a very talented creative man! Bounder treated you well but new adventures to come!
Bella is so adorable. What a good companion. Where did you learn to fix everything. You seem to get excited when you get to figure something out and make it work. What a beautiful place, thanks Dave
I agree with your approach; just focus on the way forward and enjoy the projects. With the weather warming up, now is a good time of year to sell Betty. You can then focus on getting Wilma ready for trips.
Dave, I am so sorry that this has happened to you. There are way too many RV restrictions in the Northeast... It is totally ridiculous and unnecessary. It must have been the nosy butinsky neighbors. I will never understand why people don't just mind their own business...If it isn't harming anything...Troublemakers. I feel so bad for you. You are such a nice guy and you definitely didn't deserve that. You have a great attitude and I admire that about you. 👍
I agree the northeast is definitely not rv friendly. From finding dispersed camping to finding rv garages to even staying at rest areas is also made difficult. It definitely was a neighbor who thought you were squatting and they had stranger danger. Meanwhile they probably don't even know their neighbors lol.
It is not true, it is unconstiutional to deny folks to sleep in/use their private personal rvs on their properties. There is precedence set in Colorado over this, as lots of bureaucraps gone wild butt into your business, and deny your Constitutional Rights and steal from the people. YOU have to educate them. You have a right to have your rv next to a work space temporarily also. Ordinances are not laws anyway, unless these 'laws' are enacted by your State Senate/congress, still it is precedence set, in Colorado, that is an UNConstitutional decree/not a legal law, and so the Judge canceled it. In California our city has police scams hassling people in their RVs, just to steal them, bunch of crooks. California enacted this as a law here, because they were pretending to try to control homeless populations, with stupid fake-fixes, saying there were property owners who were renting sleeping space to homeless people, big deal, but they think they are God and do what they want, but in this case they are dead wrong, they can't. Look it up. And stand your ground. SUE THEM.. He should keep his Bounder, they are priceless.
Maybe they wouldn’t be lonely if they tried making friends with Dave instead of being a stick in the mud. No one likes a nosy rule enforcer when there was no problems to begin with. Worse than an HOA lol!
Don't sweat it Dave. It's not worth the negative feelings to dwell on it and only causes stress for you. I'm hoping your homebase is in another borough without restrictions.
Hey, well sorry that incident happened to you Dave, looks like you are getting it together with the Coachman and will soon be off and running again. Take care and as always, "Enjoy The Adventure". 😀👍✌
“can’t Sleep in it Overnight” and I’m thinking Fine, I’ll work on it Overnight and Sleep in it each day. And no matter how many times the Police Visit, I’ll be dressed and working.
Had a similar situation. We know it was a neighbor called the police. We were living out of our 5th wheel temporarily while we worked on rehabing our house. We had a gravel driveway and they said that you oweren't allowed to park an RV on gravel, let alone live in it. We drove all around town where we knew people had their RV's on gravel. You just can't win. We are currently fixing our van up with solar, a Natures Head, small fridge. We'll get there. Good luck to you. I don't know how we only just now found your channel, but we are sub'd now
Some old nosy neighbor with nothing better to do but peek out the windows and "Do their part to preserve the neighborhood"... This will be the spark to get you moving in a bit quicker!
I bet changing the RV's triggered a neighbor they figured it was an rv spot now and did not like it. I would just leave it there to drive them crazy and drive the 5 miles, dude it is only 5 miles.
Dave you just have to do what ya have to do. yeap just get on with it at least the bounder isn't your only sleep option, you are blessed actually. Be Thankful for that ♥
This is the 1st time I've looked in on your site & the first thing I noticed is how I can see, as you're speaking, how hard you are wrestling w/this injustice inside. And I don't blame you. I mean, this is the kind of stuff you probably began thinking abt the RV life for in the first place. It seems like every town these days in the greater N.E. is passing these stupid little provisions as an attempt to "protect" themselves from people like you & me, when in reality all they're really thinking abt is the inevitable "property values". And of course, how much money can they make out if this. You don't seem to be confrontational sort of guy, more like "Let me get my hands on it & FIX it & get something done..." type. Those folks I have run into like you (always unexpectedly!) are genuine jewels. However, if you happen to find @ some point that you're tired of the "code bullies"(my term), my advice to.you is get yourself a guy. Or a girl. You don't necessarily need to keep him on retainer, but an acquaintance w/a lawyer who has a special interest in civil rts cases like this is a way to go. There are more of them out there than you think & plenty of legal societies who can point you in that direction. "Pro bono" would be ahelp, of course. But the reason stuff like this is gathering momentum today is that nobody says or does anything abt it. Time is nigh for a little he'll raising.
Where did you find land with no restrictions? I live in Ohio and every piece of land here is restricted. From size of house to being unable to live on property that doesn't have sewer hookups. I would love to live off grid
We’re so sorry this happened to you, Dave! The same thing happened to us a few Christmases ago in Arkansas. The mayor angrily told us to leave immediately, and law enforcement officers harassed my parents until we decided to just comply to save them from any more harassment. All for an ordinance that wasn’t even WRITTEN! Wow, what a kick to the gut! It’s a totally antiquated thinking that makes people think they can just displace people without a thought. It’s maddening, and seems illegal to me. We are sending love and positivity your way. Much Love, Tam. 🚌
What a stupid law government has nothing better to do other people stick there noses where they don't belong this law has to be fought and taken off the books
It's the same everywhere. The municipalities think they have the right to the property tax that you would pay if you owned a home or that would be paid on your behalf if you were renting. They do not want folks to live frugally. Even way out in the sticks most places do not allow a person to live in an RV. You could be right in the middle of 20 treed acres and completely invisible, they still won't allow it. It's purely a money grab. Apparently, even down where your friends have property near Williams, AZ, or in surrounding counties, you technically are not supposed to live there in an RV for more than a certain length of time per year, and that is only if you buy certain permits to do so such as solar panel, propane storage, and other types of permits that are required to live permanently on your own property in an RV. We need to start challenging these crazy ordinances in court. It's one thing to say you can't live in an RV in the middle of the city permanently, it's another to say the same thing about living way out of the cities on private land.
Nosy neighbors. Small town cops don’t care about stuff like someone sleeping in their RV until the watch commander says “ We got a call, go check this out” lol.
You could set up a cot in the garage to sleep while you work on your rigs. Also, go to each neighbor and explain what you are doing and maybe the person(s) will understand. Maybe they thought some ill intent was occurring on your friend's property. I would rather have a neighborhood watch than one who does nothing when seeing something going on at my neighbor's home. The police are doing their job by following up and enforcing the law. They are here to serve us and she did just that. I live in the country and we are all very protective of one another and if we see anything that doesn't look right we will call the neighbor and check in on them and if they are not there then we will call the police, which protects us and our neighbors. We count on each other and have our own neighborhood watch system. It works!
Probably some neighbor decided to call the Police. City Ordinances have been involved in stopping parking overnight at Walmarts. I have not heard about any Ordinances regarding private property. Probably getting to be more common.
It is so sad that happened to you. Most likely, because they don't know you, they thought a homeless person had moved in. You should see the motorhome's lineing the streets of LA, not to mention it is also happening here in LV. Just what do they expect people to do with rents so extremely high. Anyway, so sorry that happened to you. You would be the least of anyone's worries! Hugs for you and Bella....
All of you people who hate on Homeless people! You will be eliminated! You think your shit don't stink? You better take another whiff! Quit hating on Homeless folks! I have helped so many of you people whose cars have broke down in the middle of nowhere. And none of you even appreciated it! And I have been Homeless for years & living in a car.
@@oldvetwhotravels.5326 I do not hate homeless people. As I said, just where do they expect them to go. Not enough is being done for them. We should be ashamed. I do hope your situation improves. God Bless!
Feel ya'. We are not allowed to park our RV overnight on any street in our town. Some municipalities get confused and think of themselves as an HOA and their job is cleanse their town of "eyesores."Probably not your battle, but, I think, such an ordinance needs a challenge in court.
We have a city ordinance in San Antonio which prohibits RV’s from being parked on the street overnight even if no is in it. Makes it difficult to load up then day before hitting the road.
Such ordinances are in place to prevent homes from becoming RV Parks. Without the ordinance, there could be a lot of "Cousin Eddies" in a neighborhood. Still, there should be some exceptional use, when we go on trips, I want to leave the absorption fridge on all night, but not unsupervised, so I would want to have the RV parked at my house overnight and leave in the morning.
It sucks that the police came knocking but leaving Betty has to be hard so maybe a little push was good to get things moving. It would have been nice to get the walls repaired in the Coachman before moving in but you'll figure it out. Like you said maybe actually living in it will help to get that stuff done quicker. Luckily everything is in working order.
You can bet it was the neighbors and what is sad is there is that trailer that was in the background with its slides out so storage is not a problem they just signaled you out cause of the garage .
Hey Dave, it’s really fortunate you were able to get the refrigerator and the water heater fixed in the coachman when you did! I guess you could use the space heater if it gets cold at night until you can get the furnace fixed. That is a bit of a challenge to keep a positive attitude when more than likely meddling neighbors can cause you so much grief.
Come east for the summer for a few days in the Coachman... Plenty of campsites here at the Jersey Shore! It will be a great short trip for your new rig!!!!
The laws need to change. Time limits, property owners permission, etc. They try to keep riff-raff out and forget about other people’s needs. Some “laws” are unconstitutional also!
We're all unaware of plenty of ordinances in our communities. That's an unfortunate one. We have so many people in my area that purchase property specifically to park an RV for the summer, & we always camped in the family's yard. Our city is forming a committee to review our ordinances & discard those that are pointless.
I just started watching you a few videos before you found the Coachman. I didn't realize you had decided to switch. You bought the Coachman kinda on a whim, it seemed, never understood it was to be a new home. I guess you decided that sometime after buying it.
neighbors probably did not like all the filming. have to wonder why? maybe they just like their privacy. could be worried about squarters too. anyway you have it under control. God bless
Funny, our situation is a bit different but similar in some ways with neighbors that just have nothing better to do. We made a video on ours that I think you'll find funny. Frustrating, to say the least!! Great video!
Man it's hard figuring out the line between what to live with and what you should complain about. I got semi trucks parked on the shoulder of the county road I live on. I turn them in sometimes when things start getting out of hand. Other places in the neighborhood have a buses, boats, RVs, mud buggies and anything else you can imagine parked in the yard. It gets looking pretty bad but if it's their yard I try to ignore it. I mostly agree with live and let live and have no problem with someone using their RV as a temporary place to put visitors. There is always somebody who will decide temporary is permanent and live there all the time on a residential lot. That really isn't OK by me. We got somebody in an RV around here who illegally stays in city parks that have no campground. He moves between a couple of them and has been living this way now for over a year. So while I I like the idea of everybody doing what we want on our property, when it impacts others and turns your neighborhood into a mess then I start having problems. Doesn't sound like you were causing any real issue but you start letting one person do it and it grows with other people trying to get away with more and more. Unfortunately we all live too close together these days and we can't ignore each other's issues as much as in the past.
It is really not unusual for county or city zoning to make it illegal to camp on property not zoned as a campground. Very common, actually. I would ask what her probably cause was for trespassing on your friend's property to see if you were breaking the law. You should just say, "I'm not camping. I work security for my friend overnight."
You seem like a nice fella. I'm glad you took the surprise to your routine with grace. Most, if not all, cities have rules against storing RVs on property. If it fits in the garage, it's fine. If you have a pole barn, also fine. Bigger RVs, classA, 5th wheels will require storage in an approved location. It's one of those "hidden costs" of owning an RV. I think the concern stems from rodents. Stored RVs become havens for field mice. Living in the RV would end up falling under zoning. In areas where there is bad weather; tornadoes, hurricanes your home dwelling would need to pass code. Tie downs to keep it grounded. It's not just damage to your own property, but the potential to damage surrounding homes. Zoning dictates how many dwellings are allowed on the property. Parking along streets blocks access for emergency vehicles. I would imagine if the police came out and found a family vacation happening on private property, your inlaws in an RV, they would give a time limit and be on their way. In your situation, they weren't able to speak to the property owner and you aren't visiting. As much as you hate it, complying was the only legal option. ❤️ from AZ
I would want to stay in the coachman as much as possible , To work out any bugs and give a nice trial run before heading out south or west . After a bit you will know if to keep the Bounder
I noticed the property has no fence if your Rv would have been behind a property fence line out of view the cop would have been trespassing by entering the property without a search warrant
Oh I am leanin' towards meddling neighbors making a complaint because they didn't like their new "view". Cops have better thing to do but they need to act on the complaint BUT this is going to be a GREAT THING! Just speeding things up more that is all. Good things happen to good people. Now does the burrough you live in have the same ordinance?
It’s time to buy some land in Arizona like so many other nomads are doing. The way things are going in the US it’s probably better to find a home base sooner than later.
Hi! From AZ! Check the city codes FIRST. Buyer beware. People have felt "conned" because they bought land here only to find out they could not live in an RV on the land. Generators are going to be a huge concern in dry climates. Fire restrictions. Open range for cattle exists here and you will need to accommodate the roaming cattle. The other "con" is being "sold" state land. You can't own state land. If your property touches State land, there may be special restrictions in order to live there. I think people see wide open space and think there won't be any city or county rules there. That is NEVER true. Sewage and running water is one requirement for a dwelling to be deemed habitable. Camping would be restricted to a 7-14 day stay, depending where you are. I'm not saying there are no legal options out here. I am saying do all your homework prior to purchasing. Asking the seller/realtor isn't enough.
