Moving to Hawaii with Family - Cost of living on Oahu 

I think your take was more biased and misleading. Hawaii is way more expensive than California or NYC from a practical perspective. In LA for example, you can always find affordable options 1-2 hours away. In NYC you can live in suburb. In fact that's what most people including myself do. In Hawaii you have no where to go because everywhere is quite expensive. Maybe Hilo side of big island is exception. But that's not like NYC or LA suburb. It is literally an unfriendly developing country if you know what I mean.

I can retire early in virtually ANY state in the country outside of Hawaii. Just move to the suburbs or country so side. Can't do that anywhere in Hawaii. Only reason why I won't move there. I'm 41 with a paid off house and travel without worrying about money. For me, financial stress around palm trees is far worse than seeing snow 3 months a year but having peace of mind with land that I own.

@@KevinNordstrom not true. Big island is cheap. Just spent three weeks there. Oahu is more expensive. Gas on big island cheaper than southern California. Costco prices the same. Food is a little more expensive on big island but otherwise the same or cheaper.

Again, it all depends on your lifestyle. You could also just pitch a tent on the beach and it’s completely free.

I paid double for insurance back in Michigan 🤷🏻‍♂️. Also, Costco is key here. $1,000 is a minimum. We’ve spend more but we can do with $1,000.

@passport_ced I saw your video bout your dad meeting his long lost cousin in Loas. Man this such an interesting story and very similar with alot of us Hmoob people's. My dad was born in Loas but grew up in refeguee camp in Thailand, immigrated to the US in 1994 Fresno cali. He has family every where all over the world he doesn't even know about anymore he told even has an uncle in Australia. Now we are in Oklahoma, the Hmoob population here continues to grow. I thought my dad was smart because he speaks Loas, Thai, Hmong and English but man your dad speaks all these languages plus French too that's awesome.

That’s great and all, but what is the point you are trying to make with this? Hawaii’s economy would immediately turn to shit if it lost its connection to the United States. You would have to get another country to invest in it, which there really isn’t any value in doing so unless it is for military purposes. AKA a giant military base right next to the U.S. You would have to gain the interest of an enemy of the U.S. to invest in it, basically just making you a vessel of a different nation. and we all know how that goes when China invests in other countries 🤪 While you may feel that it should be independent, there’s really no benefits to gain.

@@user-hi7jk6fu3f Here’s the thing, your comment presumes you (or any civilian) or America has any say, AND that we (Hawaiians) are incumbent upon convincing you (or any civilian) or America that we deserve our sovereignty or independence, in the case of your comment it’s particularly based on economics… that’s all false. This is a legal matter between two nations, and as such any and all legal matters must be worked out through due process in an international court (inter=between, national=nations) and the Permanent Court of Arbitration in The Hague has already acknowledged our sovereignty remains in tact, so has the UN. The Hawaiian Kingdom gained sovereign recognition in 1843, that’s been verified at both the UN & by a PCA tribunal in The Hague, therefore the legal presumption of continuity says The Hawaiian Kingdom CONTINUES to be a sovereign country, as sovereignty cannot be revoked once given, it can only be relinquished by the sovereign nation via a treaty, wherein it relinquishes its sovereignty to another country, not while under duress. If you don’t understand the significance of the above paragraph (which from youre comment, I have to assume you don’t), that means the burden of proof lies upon the US. And again, if you don’t know what that means, it means the US holds the burden of proof and must prove by which legal mechanism it legally annexed the Hawaiian Kingdom, which in this case can only be a treaty of annexation signed by both parties, not while under duress, where the Hawaiian Kingdom relinquished its sovereignty to the US. Additionally to its sovereignty, this treaty would also be where details agreed upon by both parties, regarding things such as citizen rights and land rights etc, would be detailed. But no treaty of annexation exists, because no treaty was ever signed, because the U.S. in fact DID NOT annex The Hawaiian Kingdom, it just claims to have done so by a joint resolution… but a joint resolution can’t be used to annex a foreign country because it’s unilateral and most importantly because it’s bound by the restrictions of being a U.S. DOMESTIC act of legislature and has no power or jurisdiction beyond the borders of the U.S. If the US could pass a bill declaring ownership of a foreign country, other foreign countries could do the same claiming ownership of the U.S. See the flaw in that?! So all of that 👆🏽, is to say it’s not our responsibility to prove we are part of the US, it’s the US’s responsibility to prove we are part of the US. Now even if we ignore all of that 👆🏽, and I just comment regarding your elementary understanding of international law and likewise this topic… you need a reminder that The Hawaiian Kingdom DID in fact survive financially without the US, in fact we prospered and thrived ABOVE the US at the time. We were far more wealthy than the US, far more advanced, & far more educated. The proof of that lies in the fact that A) The Hawaiian Kingdom has a gold reserve that’s estimated to be more gold than if you combined all the rest of the “known” gold in the entire world together (we still have it, although the US has been trying unsuccessfully and quite desperately to get it 🤭), and you can verify that right here on RU-vid by searching “Hawaiian Kingdom gold”, or something to that effect. B). Our monarchs invested well in many different industries, which Hawaiians are STILL beneficiaries of to this day. Such investments fund many programs for Hawaiians and show no signs of running out anytime soon. C). Our Palace and most of our residents had electricity before even your White House did. D). We had free universal healthcare (something Amerikkka STILL can’t manage to pull off) E). Hawaiians had the highest rate of literacy in the world at nearly universal literacy and the vast majority of Hawaiians were multilingual (vs the U.S. that only had an approximately 40% literacy rate at the time). F). Hawaiian subject had the highest rate of college graduates per capita in the world (vs the U.S. at the time where a college education was extremely rare, something that only the very wealthy elite had access to & only allowed men to get a college degree). Now if you have common sense, which you hopefully do, common sense dictates that had the US not negatively intervened in the progress of The Hawaiian Kingdom and it’s subject, we would have continued on that same path. Instead, the US banned us from speaking our native language, implemented violent punishments (severe beatings) against school children who spoke our native language, systematically altered our education standards to subpar levels and altered our schools (which were viewed as the best in the world, where monarchs and dignitaries sent their children to get educated) from college preparation scholastics, to that of military and labor preparation scholastics (they turned Hawaiian schools into JROTC schools to train us to be their soldiers… a w^* crime). In case you’re unaware, Hitler implemented these exact same tactics on Jews decades later. Aside from the investments of our monarchs, there’s ALSO the fact that when occupations end, all occupiers MUST provide reparations to the country they occupied. These reparations are based off of crimes committed and the length of time the occupation occured. In our case, this is the longest occupation of a foreign country ever BY FAAAAAR. Based on previous occupations, our legal team (which consists of the worlds utmost experts in international law as well as contributions by international law organizations) have estimated the reparation fine to be approximately $12 trillion dollars (and rising millions of dollars every day we continue to be occupied). SOOO, it’s so kind of you to worry about our economy 🤭🙄, but we’ll be fine… Amerikkka on the other hand, will become a third world country with an additional $12 trillion added to its already enormous national debt and plummeting value of its dollar. 😁

Hawaiian society would simply collapse following a severance of ties with America. That’s not to say that Hawaii couldn’t eventually come back, but it isn’t likely to get back to the position that it’s in right now. Your bottom point is based off of America deciding to recognize Hawaii as independent and be willing to send it reparation money. However, I doubt that would ever realistically happen. America would likely cut ties and that’s that. What is Hawaii going to do about it?
