My first visit to usa was in Roanoke , i found it a great place, downtown has some great bars the people were welcoming and friendly ( my english accent attracted a lot of attention) i enjoy it everytime i go there.

Please pronounce Roanoke with three syllables. My family has lived in the area before Roanoke was a city having migrated south from Europe via Pennsylvania during colonial times. Roanoke, in the past, specifically was pronounced with three syllables-view any media (T.V., radio, film [yes, back when Roanoke was big enough to be mentioned or referenced in movies] from the 1960s, 1950s, 1940s, etc., and Roanoke was pronounced with three syllables. The (our city is losing significance and shrinking compared to other cities so “we” have to force a pseudo-colloquial way that only we correctly know how to pronounce self-created fable. “We say it Row-noke, here.” Not correct, not true. Roanoke is pronounced, “Row-ah-noke.” I now live in Atlanta and a small village nearby in Alabama pronounces their name with three syllables, which is also named Roanoke. The lost colony, Roanoke, is pronounced with three syllables. The city in Southwest Virginia is also pronounced with three syllables unless you incorrectly learned to say the name with two syllables in elementary school and refuse to correct the pronunciation as an adult. Thankfully, all the A.I. such as Alexa pronounce the city correctly with three syllables. The dialect in Roanoke is mostly southern Shenandoah Valley dialect and Roanoke is pronounced with three syllables. I know it is hard to unlearn incorrect habits, but like the incorrect, but often heard, “I seen him coming”, that as an adult you know to correct to, “I saw him coming”, everyone should pronounce the name to the better sounding, “Row-ah-noke”-three syllables.
I agree. It's dangerous, unemployment rate high, no decent paying jobs. No one ever tells the truth about living here even the news. You learn quickly after you move here. Imo Roanoke is ghetto. Ppl need to do some serious research before moving here. Like 10 worst places to live in VA research. I'm not a fan of fake sugar coating. Just research how many ppl have a high school vs master's degree in Roanoke.
@@relax9286 ive talked to many people across our country and the world, Nd they say roanoke is nothing like other crime cities. They say its full of ignorance and rude people, and rheyre not wrong. The govt along with keeping poor people poor, and pathetic lil boys not doing their jobs raising their kids.
