Well, after gaining a lot of wrinkles, crying several small lakes of tears and leaving ourselves with about 58p to decorate with, we are now officially homeowners. CHEERS TO THAT, pass the gin. Super excited to share the first moving vlog for our new house from the day that we went to collect our keys and opened our front door for the first time. I mostly just seem extremely stressed and confused in this video but I promise it’s probably the coolest thing that’s ever happened to me. Thanks so much for all of your support and for seeing me through some pretty rough times along the way, my dudes. Here’s to a new chapter in this whole adulting malarky.

Bring on ALL the sponsor stuff you can! I'll watch whatever! Maybe shift your content to be less about spending, do some chats, reviews, holiday gift ideas (without actually buying them) etc... Take the time to furnish and decorate without going into debt, as Adam said, once the cat and the PS is in there, you don't need much more 😂

I was literally doing a video on that, you don't need to go into debt at the holidays to show people how much you love them. I think this is such a good idea

Dont dive head first into renovations! I bought my first house at 25 and rushed some of the decisions on decor etc and regretted them. There is merit to "living" in a space for a while before you make decisions- especially expensive ones! Take your time. The house isnt going anywhere. Enjoy just being there and resit the urge to rush and make it all perfect right now. Homes evolve. Just enjoy the process and the joy of simply owning your own little home. You'll make better choices when you've given yourself time to get to know the house xx

So true. One exception IMO if they can manage it is to do any big floor-related renos now, if they plan to do any. Big pain and disruption to try to do them later when the floors are covered with all your furniture. The rest of renos can easily wait.

Are you getting the roof done before you move in?
@yubbadubbadubba
@yubbadubbadubba 4 года назад
yup! flooring, roof, appliances, and bed/sofa are the big things, since it seems plumbing and heating are fine. I also recommend doing a fresh coat of paint in a neutral tone for now as, alongside a deep clean, it makes a world of difference for such relatively small tasks. The rest can wait especially as the main priorities are costly.

LOVED how down to earth and normal this was! The aldi wine in the background, the fact your house needs a bit of work, you stressing out about it all... very refreshing and normal compared to the "we bought a 6 bedroom house and did it out with marble and gold in 2 weeks". Love watching your videos. Thanks for being so normal and relatable! ---- And CONGRATULATIONS!

Congratulations. That is some feat. You just bought a house in London at the age of 28!! Just take a second to enjoy what you have achieved. All you need to do is give it a good clean, buy the essentials (get on the Ebay) and enjoy living in your new home. Take it as it comes. Your new home is lovely. It's a really nice blank canvas. Time will tell what you will want to do with it. You can see how you live your lives in it. Well done. Strokes and tickles to Flo. x

Please don’t feel the pressure to rush and get it all done. In reality most people take years doing up their homes. I bought my first flat when I was 29 and lived with a propane camping stove and fairy lights in my kitchen for over a year until I could afford a new kitchen. You don’t need to have all new furniture to be happy living there. Take hand me downs, free cycle etc and give yourself a break. I’m now 44 and in my third property. We’ve been here 4 years and haven’t yet finished doing it up. It takes time and money. Thanks for being real.

Aw congratulations to both of you, I'm so excited for you! I know you said it needs a lot of work, but honestly it didn't look it on the footage, it just seems so cute and lovely to me. I think I'd concentrate on the essentials first, so furniture then getting the roof done (and a Christmas tree in the lounge!) then live in it for a while to see how you use the space and what does and doesn't work before making any big changes such as kitchens, bathrooms, building work etc. I was smiling so much through the video, I am honestly so pleased for you and will happily be clicking on any sponsored ads and videos so you can keep us posted on your lovely new home!

I remember well that feeling of 'oh my god, what have we done' after we bought our house. I got home and cried and cried so it is very normal not to have that overwhelming joy feeling right away, the joy will come later when you start making the house your home.

I remember when I bought my house I sat on the stairs on the first night and thought what the hell have I done. And same I moved in after 2 months when all the crap I didnt think I needed to pay for straight away like new fuse board, cellar rewiring were done. Then I had the boiler replaced when it totally clapped out. Last year (7 yrs in) I finally got my horrendous bathroom sorted. I'm having a mini kitchen makeover this year. That's the reality of owning a house as soon as you get something done something else breaks!! It's yours though

I bought my first house last year and the ENTIRE year was full of renovations and repairs (I didn't even get to move in right after I bought it because we had to gut the bathroom, I had to wait 2 1/2 months!). I know this is an older video but know that you don't have to do it all at once, take it bit by bit and it will become your dream home. I'm a little over a year in and it's just within the last month that things have started to come together. You've got this Lucy and Adam!

Congratulations to you both. Your house is lovely and it wasn’t as much of a do-er upper as I was imagining from what you said. Take your time in making it your own, don’t stress that it will take a while to decorate - that’s real life and what normal people do in between working and having money to do said decorating - I think that’s why you are so refreshing and relatable. Also you and Adam are definitely couple goals, so sweet x

Congrats!! What an accomplishment! My bf and I bought our first house last year and I know exactly how you feel, but honestly - everything takes WAY longer than you think it will. It was a year before we even had blinds on all the windows. Definitely take your time and a lot of the time, good enough is good enough. Have SO much fun decorating and exploring and learning about your new home! And if you're ever feeling meh or stuck on interiors, turn to the exteriors! A bag of dirt and a tray of flowers can make such a difference and can be easy on the wallet. Can't wait to see it all come together!

I'm so happy for you, the house looks lovely! I just wanted to say that slow and steady is, I feel like, the more "normal" way, if that makes sense? I watched some home movies my parents made in the summer when my dad made digital copies of all the vhs films. So, as a background story, my parents moved into their house when I was about 1 year old, and in the home movie I was about 4 years old probably, playing with our cat in the hallway, and still part of the hallway wasn't really furnished, at least in the way I know it. Like, the telephone land line was just on a little stool and I think there was something else to put stuff on but that was pretty much it for the hall. Now it has cupboards, a mirror etc. And when I reacted to the bare hallway my parents told me they just added in little by little, as needed and how much they could afford. So, don't feel bad, if "making a home" takes a little while. It also means you can take your time deciding and figuring stuff out how you like it. Love from Austria

Ha, ha, you'll need a longer tape measure that that little thing to measure with 😁 House looks great, so cute and once you have put your own mark on it, it will soon feel like home. A quick lick of paint for now and live in it for a while to see what you'd like to change apart from the roof of course cos that s a priority. Flo will love being able to go outside and hopefully not bring you any presents of dead rats like my cat has done twice in the past month. 😔 So happy for you both

Lucy, I don't normally comment on videos but couldn't help myself today. We move from our flat on Saturday into our house that completed in August. We've just got it into the state to move in after plastering, refitting a kitchen, bathroom, flooring...... and it's still nowhere near done. However, we have our shed prepared so we can hide all the junk we didn't realise we had! I love your videos and relate to you so much, I really wish you both all the best, and can't wait to see the rest of your move and all the great content you have in store.

We moved into our first home 5 years ago. And we made 2 list. " A need to do right now " list: bed, washing machine, fridge etc. " An eventually" list. : New carpet , new light fixture , paint bed room, replace side door. The 2 lists really helped me not feel like I was drowning. And we have been slowly crossing off things on our "eventually list " but we also add things ( it's our long term goals for the house) we sit down and prioritize them and then start saving for the next one. Congrats on your new home !!🤗😁

Tips from a house owner who had no idea what she was doing either: Check your boiler and find out how old it is / what type it is ... Ours worked when we bought the house but broke down during January and cost us a fortune to get repaired. Luckily we still had hot water because it turned out we had an immersion heater, which we didn't even know. Look into getting some boiler cover from British Gas or something similar! Have a 'leccy check your fuseboxes and wiring! One of our fuses was blown out and apparently weeks away from burning our house down. And the wiring in half our house is crap, if we'd known that when we moved in we would've done something about it sooner. Your house looks lovely! Cozy and manageable! Congratulations! ^^

Loved this vlog, still so you and genuine. So excited for the 2 of you! We sold our flat and moved into a 3 bed house last year, and 14 months later we've done 99% of the things we needed to do - full roof replacement, all new doors and windows, damp proofing, new carpets on one floor, whole back of house completely re-rendered, plus extra internal building work and all the painting, decorating and furniture buying that goes with it. It's definitely terrifying, overwhelming, and super stressful and a real journey working out how to make something your home - but trust me you will get there and although there will be times that you think "What the hell have we done?!" (mine was when water from the shower started streaming down the wall of the kitchen below), you will get through it and bits of it will even be fun! The first 6 months for me were genuinely quite hard adjusting to new routines etc, but after that I started to feel more comfortable and realise all progress is good progress. GOOD LUCK!

So happy to see you being honest on how it’s stressful feeling. Normal people don’t renovate before moving in. They live there, decide what works and slowly change things. We’ve been in our first for 4-5 years and we are doing our first major change, the kitchen, in January. We wouldn’t have known what would work for us right at the start. Xx

First of all, CONGRATULATIONS Lucy, Adam and Flo! It is a crazy, mental time. Don't think about it too much and don't think you have to get it 'done' so quickly like others on youtube. Let's be honest a home renovation etc. is never truly 'done'. You will be changing things all the time as you live there and seeing how things work for you. I'd start with the basics (you'll have a few already as you live in your own place just now) like a hoover, cutlery, sofa, fridge, bed etc. - things you need to be able to live there. Also setting up bills - gas, electricity, internet, TV etc. If you're painting etc. probably best to do that as early as possible when you can afford it, as its much easier when the place is empty. Then go into other things you want/need that will fit and fill the place out - dining tables/bookshelves/dressing tables/desks etc. After that's done (depending obviously on when you move in) there will be things like prints/decorations/plants etc. which can happen later on. There will also be things you forget about buying that you'll need like a lawnmower etc. Depending on how you feel the garden can also wait a bit until you're settled too. Obviously, a lot also depends on how much redecorating you'll be doing - eg. ripping out kitchens or bathrooms /painting/flooring etc. which will need doing earlier. All in all, don't over stress. Take some time away from youtube if you need to, calculate costs - everything doesn't need to be perfect from the get-go but you also don't want to be wasting money on things you're not sure about fitting/how you feel about them. Take things one day at a time and if you're stressing focus on one room at a time/ or one area of a room at a time. You could also upload transformation videos or updates on each room as you progress too. Can't wait to see what you do with this place. It's beautiful and I'm sure it will be even better when you make it your own. Lots of love x

As a first time buyer, if the property is over £300,000 you have to pay a certain amount of stamp duty and if it's over £500,000 then you have to pay the full amount. In London I imagine it's unavoidable!

Having bought a couple homes, I can tell you from experience that you should start with what's necessary to live there comfortably, and worry about the rest as it comes. Build around the necessary and you'll do fine. For instance, after getting the roof done and anything else that's necessary to keep from further damaging the property, buy the sofa. Any and all décor decisions will come from that. Or, pick a paint color if you're going for other than white, and buy a neutral sofa that matches but will match if/when you decide to change the paint color. The roof and the four necessities you mentioned are all you need to worry about now, and the rest will come as you live in the space and decide how to use what you already have. That said, if the kitchen or bathroom need to be fixed structurally and you can afford it, do it before you move in. It's much harder to live in a construction zone when those things need work. Good luck, and I'm very happy for you.

I never comment but congratulations to you both, your new house is lovely! Love the fireplace and the kitchen window and sink 😍 I bought a house nearly 3 years ago and it’s not finished by a long shot. Once your roof is done though I’d suggest getting any new flooring you want next as it’s a pain to change when your house is full! Enjoy your new home ♥️

I know the exact feeling! We spent a lot on our first house in summer 2018 and have been slowly redoing it - it’s a lot of time and money! I’m at the bottom of the mountain with you - but you can do it! Can’t wait to see the progress and updates :)

This fills me with loads of comfort! I’m 26 and constantly feel under pressure to move out from my family and my boyfriends family. Whilst I would love to, I’m terrified! I’m glad someone else feels overwhelmed but it all, as amazing as it is!

Ah my boyfriend and I picked up the keys to our first house on the exact same day! Unlike you and Adam we don't miss our old house we hated the neighbours and how noisy/busy the street was. We're actually keeping one of the keys from our old house and getting it engraved or getting a nice keychain with the address on as a memory of the first home we rented before buying.

Congratulations! I just discovered your channel and am working my way through your videos. Your new home is so beautiful! When you said it needed every room redoing I was expecting a wreck but it's already so nice! The nook in the living room would make an incredible built in dining area, have always wanted one of those, like in a fancy restaurant haha. Enjoy your new home, and the journey to making it your own, my advice is to not to rush, we've been in ours 3 years and it's just coming together, take some time to live in it and work out what works for you 😊 xx

I bought a house about a year ago and I think actually decorating and customizing slowly has been way way exciting!! I get excited every time I find a cute bit of house decor or come up with a new idea to save for! I think once you get through the initial craziness you will have tons of fun with it! So happy for you both 🤗

Bless you!! Such an exciting and daunting time! We bought ours 3 years ago and the advice given by my dad was to stretch yourself financially as we are young and our salaries will go up, I didn’t really believe him at the time but he was absolutely right - everything will be fine! 3 years on and the house still needs some work but we are slowly getting there. It will all be fine, chill and enjoy the moment 🥰

So excited for you! If you're still feeling overwhelmed, I'd suggest brain-storming a master list of everything that needs to be done and purchased. Then prioritize and divide into 3 or 4 or 5 - however many years you want to give yourself to get it done. Then you'll have your plan and goals for each year. Too bad Mr. Kate's not in a position to hop over to London to help you out!

Congratulations! The house looks lovely! It sounds like you're putting a lot of pressure on yourselves to make lots of big decisions early on and to spend lots of money you don't have (I also get the sense you're overwhelmed because you somehow feel that you don't deserve something so good to happen so you're looking for the negatives to play it down - hopefully your therapist can sort that one out because you absolutely do deserve it!) Like other people have said, just focus on the basics and urgent/dangerous things for now, and settle into the space as it is before you make any big decisions. When we bought our house we took 2 folding chairs and a kettle with us the first day, and we didn't even own those haha! We bought sofas from a charity shop, got donated a crappy old fridge and a washing machine from people we knew, and bought a TV and a bed. As long as you can eat, sleep and shower that's all you need for now, so ignore all the vidoes you've seen of people spending a huge amount of time, money and stress on immediate renovations and just enjoy the adventure of a new space that'll become your home :)

This is so honest and real about buying a house its really refreshing in these weird youtube days where everyone buys a perfectly done up House...they all make it look so easy and not that big of a Deal so it is nice that you talked about it in such an open and honest way

I am so excited for you both! I couldn't stop grinning through this. It's such a great feeling. In terms of all the work & spending - it's so easy to feel all the pressure, but one step at a time is the way forward. We bought three years ago and there's still so much stuff we want to do, but we've been doing a bit at a time and it's still rewarding. There can be stressful bits but at the end of the day your own place is so worth it. Enjoy every moment!

Slow and steady is most definitely going to win the race I think Lucy! I love watching youtubers making over their homes but it’s often actually done so quickly that you miss the stuff you wouldn’t usually see! So actually if you slowed it down, you would make it more realistic for those watching who are in the same boat!

Congratulations to you both! I know it's overwhelming & you feel you know nothing and don't know where to start but honestly- you'll get there. It doesn't need to be perfect straight away, owning a house is an ongoing thing- we bought our house 12 years ago and yes we've done a lot in that time but there is still lots we want to do. Just enjoy it Lucy, take your time and be proud of what you and Adam have achieved together x

Hi Lucy 🥰 I hope you are feeling a bit better today and I’m so happy for you that you have both bought your first home! Just wanted to let you know, I’ve been there, looking at a more or less derelict house and thinking “how on Earth am I going to get this liveable?” It took FIVE YEARS, £££££kkkkkkkkk’s and lots of patience, I knew no DIY and let’s just day it was a JOURNEY! but we did it and now our home is gorgeous and just how we like it!! So please don’t despair! Sending lots of warm hugs to you in your new adventure xxxx

Don't worry, we bought a house a year and a bit ago.... It didn't need a huge amount doing to it think god, but I was still terrified!!! Everything seemed out of reach and in all honesty, a year and a bit later and it's still not done haha. But that's okay! You just have to do it at your own pace and try not to compare it to what others are doing. It's such an expensive thing but.... Its amazing. We love our house so much (kitchen lino rips that we still haven't sorted and all) 😂. Congratulations on your new chapter and good luck with everything!
