Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart Piano Concerto No 9 K E flat major 271 Jeunehomme Maria João Pires, piano Orchestre Philharmonique de Monte Carlo conductor Kazuki Yamada Allegro 0:00 Andantino 11:15 Rondò, presto 22:38
I began taping my dad's LPs for my Walkman in 1981. Through college and into adult life I listened to all the mozart concerti, between 3 and 12 recordings of each, some of them dozens of times. This one, K450, K453, K466, K467, K491, and K503 I have each heard well over 100 times. I dropped what I was doing and listened, sometimes sitting in the car to finish a movement before taking the groceries in. None of that time was wasted.
The play is entirely mastered: you can listen how each musical note sings (which differentiates Mozart from other composers of the romantic era such as Chopin with a lot of chords, with Mozart each single note must be expressed gracefully), how the trills are evenly layered, how the nuances are perfectly respected (legato or staccato, piano or forte). The interpreter brings its own musical coulant effect coming just a bit from the romantic era, but expresses the music as a confidential dialogue with himself and the orchestra altogether. Nuances are never exaggerated. There is reason why they say Mozart is easy for the beginner and difficult for the Master. Mrs Pires does a magnificent demonstration which you have to appreciate.
This is a very special piece in my opinion, it shows delicacy with child like innocence. Like a beautiful small flower popping up from the ground in spring. I remember walking in Mozart his house in Vienna and had some music on in my earpiece while walking his room, watching his views while he wrote the Vienna sonata's. Its was truly an experience I won't forget, I had the delight to share this with my sweet grandmother who showed me classic music all these years ago. I will always remember her in the sounds of Mozart. I miss her deeply, she was a mother to me and I will never forget her caring love.
@@anne-louiseluccarini4530 Ahhh the Figarohaus that was the name !! Thank you SOO MUCH !! I really like your message, I had no idea, it seems I went just in time then ! It was truly an experience, while writing this I look to my Mozart bust on my piano that I bought from the place. Thans again, and I agree. If its possible, we should keep as original as possible.
@@Darkboy2525yes I know Mozart lived and died in Vienna but no one knows where exactly. He has no grave 😢 😢😢 Historically Austria only has his birth house as a reference 🌹
Lovely to see this woman still playing live so brilliantly and soulfully at this stage of her career. I have followed her with interest for years, from her tenure as an instructor at Julliard (maybe still ongoing? ... I have no idea) to her educational and inspirational endeavors at her advanced school in her native Portugal, many of which are presented in various RU-vid videos. She is a treasure to the musical community worldwide.
Esthere Wamgall, don't know from which country you are, but here, in embattled Ukraine, after listening to this concert, I was going to make the identical comment - until I saw yours. Thank you for expressing it so beautifully.
This is simply fantastic. What virtuosity, what depth by Ms Pires!!! I heard this piece fully for the first time at a concert last kight, but couldnt understand what all the fuss was about, but hearing it now from this artist, it all makes sense to me. Truly outstanding in the work of Mozart!!
Wonderful interpretation by Maria Pires of this seminal work by Mozart, written when he was only 21, with an innovative (contrary to contemporary convention) very early introduction of the solo instrument, the piano, right after the opening bars, which Beethoven later adopted in his fourth and fifth piano concertos. What is also innovative is the degree of interchange and sharing of melodies, between piano and orchestra. Really wonderful.
A great performance of a special bit of Mozart .The thing here is the absence of any feeling that the music is being rushed , a pianist who combines strength with musical intelligence and an orchestra which is in complete accord. Very special.
In the early Mozart piano concertos, one *does* often get the unnerving feeling of a rushed tempo, doesn’t one? Yet in this concerto, Mozart finally seems to have mastered the form, and as a result, as you aptly said, we are blessed with “a special bit of Mozart.” To my ear, parts of this piece seem to almost *anticipate* that extraordinarily beautiful moment in the third movement of Piano Concerto #13, when the lighthearted rondeau theme of the orchestra is brought to a halt by the piano, which proceeds to give us one of the most meditative, expressive, and thoughtful moments of solitary, private melancholy in all of Mozart’s piano works…
Bravo!!!
🌌 "Classical music is a sanctuary for the mind, where the symphony of instruments orchestrates a language that speaks directly to the heart. Each composition is a masterpiece, a conversation between the composer and the listener that spans generations and leaves an indelible mark on the spirit." 🎼🌠
Thank you so much Maria, I really really enjoyed watching you play with such passion and sensitivity and I’ve never heard you before, but, I really really be looking out for you again. Please stay safe and well too
The dialogue between piano and orchestra is the most intelligent and delightful of conversations. Mozart gives us perfection of form with the full range of human feeling.
What a sublime interpretation. I am deeply impressed by Maria's refinded dealing with Mozart. On 3rd movement. She fluently performs the masterpiece.. It brings tp me emotional relaxation and beautifulness. it so good.
The second movement and her interpretation of it has me captivated. It's as if she is crying inside, and making the piano weep as well. This will be enjoyed for many many years. I've searched for a long time for more recent versions of this concerto(15+ years). The only one aside from this one I have seen was the "Mitsuko Uchida" performance. - Which initially hooked me. Thank you for sharing this work of performance music art with me and everyone.
How could anyone who is only 21 years old write music such as this? Only the divine hand of god could create this. Mozart made of himself the perfect channel for such sublime divinity.
Felicitaciones!
Solo celestial!!!!!
