Vengerov has a way with the violin in any style of playing that comes through in a seamless fashion. To be half the musician that he is would be more than satisfying to me as a violinist. Bravo to an extraordinary recording of fantastic music.

Thanks so much, Duci3834, for this new version to me, from Mr. Vengerov. Although I love Mr. Perlman and Mrs. Sophie Mutter, any well hearted played version is wellcome. And Mr. Vengerov sounds very good. I'm sure Mozart would be very pleased with him.

A gem of a reply ! In my forthcoming season of lectures around European conservatories & universities, I shall take great delight in knowing that each time I refer to “per arsin et thesin” in late Renaissance polyphony, there will be at least one dunce out there dreaming about horses’ backsides and flatulence. More seriously, I shall consider it a sad day indeed when great music & musicians inspire nothing more in me than the sort of senseless hatred expressed by dziady1.

How thoughtful of you to let me know whose words I was quoting, and to share your ability to identify the various subgenera of Equus. I am indeed a regular guest lecturer, as well as performer and writer, mostly within the field of Western European music, with surprisingly little reference to the gaseous by-products of the equine digestive system. I strive hard to encourage my unfortunate students to emulate the standards of “dispassionate observation” for which your comments are so remarkable.

Dziady1, I recently read the following comment about you, and wondered what could have motivated such harsh criticism : “The spectacle of a pathetic old pettifogger behaving like an obstreperous child - down to throwing tantrums when he gets his bottom smacked - makes one recoil with contempt. Skulking behind a pseudonym gives him the “courage” to hurl sneering remarks at those who tower above him.” Thank you for providing such an eloquent illustration of what the writer was getting at...

1/ Thank you so much for this latest object lesson in dispassionate observation. What cunning genius that your reference to bevery should be part of a carefully thought-out plot to lure him into the debate. Your ability to remain dispassionate while “seemingly not so” is an art so subtle that I fear many readers may simply not believe you. Alas, strive as I may, I shall never meet those exacting criteria by which you define the “best teachers”.

@dagll

I don't understand how people think that 1:37 is a 'fail'; it's just his e string. There's a video of Janine Jansen recording the Tchaikovsky and when she reaches some double stops including an open e, the exact same thing happens... but the funny thing is that she just stopped playing and swore really loudly! I pressume you're musicians...? Did you not hear the intonation right at the end of his cadenza...? That's a mistake! ;-) I love his interpretation anyway- it is fantastic!

I think we all understand the use of the word “ass”. Some of us also understand the expression “mixed metaphor”. Few would qualify the distinction between “bray” and “chirp” as “being clever”. Even fewer would consider it to be a means of descrying stupidity. Like arsim, I am grateful that the day has not yet dawned, as it appears long to have done so for dziady1, when listening to great music & musicians inspires nothing more in me than a torrent of incoherent and ungrammatical invective.

2/ My upcoming lectures deal with mere trivia, such as the classical concerto, isorhythm in medieval France or the Masses of Johannes Ockeghem. Should I ever, in the course of my travels, be questioned upon the finer points of “farts in the wind” or the chirruping of central European equidæ, I shall be proud to say that I have had the honour of exchanging a few words with an acknowledged authority on those subjects.

Excellent ! A classic dénouement to what had appeared to be merely a pleasant exchange of views. How will dziady rise to meet this challenge to his literary prowess ? A haughty silence, perhaps ? (dramatic, but frustratingly inconclusive) ; a cursory “I don’t believe you!” ? (direct & bellicose, but lacking originality) ; or a thrilling bouquet final of “mediocre bores”, “lower orders”, “lap-dogs” and “you are too dense”. Whatever, it will all be dispassionately observant.

This is Vengerov's composition. Composers during the the classical era allows such freedom of developing their own cadenzas, just using a few small notes to guide them. Joachim's cadenza became the most well known of the cadenzas which is why its most frequently played

"All of the concertos are in D..."---Maxim Vengerov
@Aria132
@Aria132 13 лет назад
@22standana First, the composer was dead from along time ago.No one knows exactly what is the way composer wants it to be performed.Artists only base on music sheet and express it in their way.That's why we call them "interpreter".If 3 people translate one foreign language document,I dont think we have the same translation. Second, in a masterpiece,there are voices.So artists have many options to play it (concentrate on principle melody or make the hidden voice, normally in the bass, sound)
@argentum001
@argentum001 13 лет назад
I like Vengerov's cunducting, but I noticed that when he is soloing he is much more focused on his technique than on the rhythm - he very often plays ahead of the orchestra and at a faster pace... Concentrate Maxim! :D

Funnily enough, not long ago, I asked a dozen or so musicians &/or music lovers what they thought “arsim.thesim” could mean. All referred to arsis-thesis or “per arsin et thesin”, giving examples including Josquin Desprez, Tallis, Purcell or Bach... Only for dziady1 does it seem to conjure up images of equine posteriors.
