How many people will now walk around with headphones listening to this song just like Max Really wonderful song, I'm glad that this song has found a new wave of popularity
I wish my choir director would have chosen songs like this when I was in choir! Super cool. This 80s gem is still awesome. If I was Kate this would make me smile.
It’s old school choir singing - homophonic Bit boring really but at that stage in history they didn’t have all the “black” notes on keyboards Harmonies came in a bit later and thus came the full keyboard as we know it today
1985 Kate Bush, 1994 Elastic Band, 2003 Within Temptation, 2003 Placebo, 2012 Kate Bush, 2019 Meg Myers, 2021 Anyma, 2022 Kim Petras to name just only the best-known versions.
Raul Rosiles Yes, we know it's from Bush, Mr. obvious. And placebo didn't "only" covered it... they made their very own arrangement, influenced by their style.
That's what a cover is. It's taking someone else's song and making your own arrangement of it based on your own style. The legal definition of a "song" is strictly the chord progression and the lyrics/melody. Placebo did not change the chord progression nor the lyrics/melody, and therefore did not write the song. Accurately, this should be labelled as "Written by Kate Bush, in the style of Placebo".
This is one of RU-vid's hidden gems. Hauntingly beautiful ,it reverberated through my body and mind making me want to run, yell, and cry. A HUGE THANK YOU
It makes me realise how deep the music of Kate Bush is that is can be reworked by so many great talents and every one putting their own distinctive twist and feel to it and creating something beautiful. I love this version, never thought it would work with a choir but it does.
when singers are singing the same note to sound like one, like the first few lines of the song that is called unison. When singers sing different notes together that is harmony
Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God) - Kate Bush lyrics: "If I only could, I'd be running up that hill. If I only could, I'd be running up that hill." It doesn't hurt me. Do you want to feel how it feels? Do you want to know that it doesn't hurt me? Do you want to hear about the deal that I'm making? You, it's you and me. And if I only could, I'd make a deal with God, And I'd get him to swap our places, Be running up that road, Be running up that hill, Be running up that building. If I only could, oh... You don't want to hurt me, But see how deep the bullet lies. Unaware I'm tearing you asunder. Ooh, there is thunder in our hearts. Is there so much hate for the ones we love? Tell me, we both matter, don't we? You, it's you and me. It's you and me won't be unhappy. And if I only could, I'd make a deal with God, And I'd get him to swap our places, Be running up that road, Be running up that hill, Be running up that building, Say, if I only could, oh... You, It's you and me, It's you and me won't be unhappy. "C'mon, baby, c'mon darling, Let me steal this moment from you now. C'mon, angel, c'mon, c'mon, darling, Let's exchange the experience, oh..." And if I only could, I'd make a deal with God, And I'd get him to swap our places, Be running up that road, Be running up that hill, With no problems. And if I only could, I'd make a deal with God, And I'd get him to swap our places, Be running up that road, Be running up that hill, With no problems. And if I only could, I'd make a deal with God, And I'd get him to swap our places, Be running up that road, Be running up that hill, With no problems. If I only could Be running up that hill With no problems... "If I only could, I'd be running up that hill. If I only could, I'd be running up that hill."
yeah, I just listened "deal with God" in a criminal serial tonight and was pleased by the lyrics, the dance performance and the orchestral interpretation
When the strings come in, gives me goosebumps but yes...like comments below all credit for this beautiful song goes to the stunning and brilliant British musician Kate Bush~
The best version I've ever heard. one of my favorite songs. always makes me think of my daughter Samantha in Heaven. if I could, makes a deal with God... if only ;(
+Brian J You will meet your daughter again in heaven. She is with Jesus and is waiting for you to come home one day. Don't you dare let anyone tell you otherwise
+April Marie Lets not fill the persons head with bullshit now. God isn't real. The song is good but when the guy dies he will never see anything again.
^Believers will trust in God no matter what you or anyone else can ever say. That is the power of the Lord at work in our hearts. Christians build each other up through hard times by God's grace and love that gives us hope. What you do only tears people down. Please find it in you to not be that negative influence in a grieving man's life.

Funny thing, as a child of the 80`s i knew this song ,but never thought anyting of it. After Stranger Things i get goosebumps every time i hear it.Lovely cover by the way.
LOVE! I even wanted it to go bigger. Thats what i love about this song, I cant articulate it musical terms, but it sounds so big in a contained way. Im so glad someone made this arrangement.
@@davisneves it's called dynamics. You're most likely streaming it. Try listening to it on a decent vinyl system, by decent I mean +$3k or more. It'll blow your mind. The work that went into this is beyond what most artists could afford, as in those days home studios were beyond the reach of anyone who wasn't a top recording artist or engineer/producer. And studio time cost a bomb then. That said, while this is a great pop song, and definitely truly original, it isn't close to her best work. And the excess of the Fairlight use drives me insane, I really dislike it. But it was the latest toy then, but Kate went a bit crazy with it, as she tended to do. But that's creativity, innit?
WOW! I heard the first few seconds and had to put on my headphones for a proper listen. Closed my eyes and just enjoyed every note. Beautiful performance and superb recording!
Brilliant, you know a great song when it can be covered into any genre. From Kate Bushs original (pop, Placebo (alt rock), Biffy Clyro (rock) and now this masterpiece (classical with a choir)! Love it ❤️👏🏻🫡
WOW ... I'm speechless, that really blew me away !! amazing performance and arrangement. I was eighteen years old when I first heard this song in the movie "The chocolate war" back in 1988, great movie and awesome soundtrack.
Amazing cover. While people below are mentioning Placebo and Stranger Things, can we remember it was the brilliant Kate Bush who is the original woman behind this song. Great song and great album. Glad I was around in the 80s!
