@@VancouverCanucksRock No cause Justin Trudeau should not be getting salary at all. Plus I wrote that comment when I stoned lol 😄 One more thing: Vancouver Canucks suck like the Oilers do lol
yes, but I take it costs a lot to be an MP-getting elected and running a campaign is not for free, its not easy on families who may not be living in Ottawa, and it's more often than not, a temp job-you never know how elections will go, and you can lose your job. Looking at all these factors, salary is decent compensation, but no where as good as say the salary of a sportperson who may have similar constraints.
This is even more screwed up when you realize there are 338 MPs - excluding 4-5 leaders - there are 333-334 "yes men/women" in parliament. For leaders it kinda makes sense to travel 64 times a year (maybe to rally up your base, or travel around as a leader), but for an average joe MP? Hell nah. We are paying average joe MPs 200k+ a year, for literally doing nothing but just saying "yes" or "no" to what the leader says. These salaries need to be reduced, by atleast to half for average joe MPs and flights reduced to no more than 10 flights per year.
Ah, Canadian democracy. Where we all have the freedom to vote for someone we may or may not care about, only in turn to have someone we very likely don't care about making decisions for us and about us on a global scale that we literally and absolutely have no control over whatsoever. I feel represented; don't you?
A politicians salary should always be tied to the average income of the entire nation. That way... everyone has to do good for them to make money, not just the 1% or the poor.
Can these guys are taking care of the country like they care about the economy when you’re making that kind of money. Overpaid and under deserving. Sounds like they need to take the big pay cut get back to reality of the average workers. Then maybe will see stuff get done in parliament to help the working Class. Reduce taxes, give us more take-home money that’s what people need.
$180k/year, meanwhile Canadian men are making less than what they were making in 1980, oh and these are RAW numbers not adjusted for inflation. Adjusting for inflation the average man is making $17k in 1980 money, what was the average man making in 1980? $55k. Now some of this can be due to more women entering, but much of it can be attributed to inflation moreso.
Quit being lazy and climb the ladder. You’re probably the box taper at a factory who bitches about his job and turns down extra shifts, then bitch about the boss keeping you down. The boss who never gets to shut his mind off from work, organize a bunch of idiots and lazies into something profitable. Have you ever ran anything, or been in charge of a crew? Clearly not. Back to the grill burger boy.
SevenAcid I started for my contracting company as a labourer in 2004. I am Vice President of operations today. Went from $30,000 per year to $100,000 + performance based bonus. It’s all about attitude, pride in workmanship and the will to succeed. That’s what people that dont try say.
I agree with all of it but the best, most important part was the last part: if you're in it for the money, the travel, or other 'goodies', you're in it for the wrong reason.
I believe MP’s should be paid well but there should be no pension. You serve the country, not become a parasite to it. We would get better people that way I think.
I think that the same thing ought to apply to companies. Employees shouldn't be paid pensions. You can't expect to collect years of pay just because you previously worked well for a firm.
I disagree. Your employer help pay for your CPP, why not MP? Although, I think their pension should be part of the CPP frame works, so their pensions are tied to the same fund the rest of Canadians are tied to. This way, their pension is subjected to the same risk as any Canadian's pension.
I went to my MP office twice and never actually saw the MP in the office. It was the secretary. I wonder what they do when there is no parliament session in Ottawa.
NOTHING, except destroy this country. This system is so corrupt. Most MP's should be charged and convicted of theft and treason. They are all anti Canadian, corrupt and need to be held to account.
I think they should get the median ( 50 percentile) + the 25 percentile of a Canadian's income. That is the amount that 1/2 Canadians get more than and 1/2 get less than Plus the amount that 75% get more than and 25% get less than. Give them some incentive to help most Candian not just lobbyists.
Here's an idea: MP's should be volunteer with zero salary. Pay their living expenses etc and at the end of their run, Canadians vote on a scale of how well they served which would be directly proportional to the sliding scale on the ballot. That would be their retirement. Just a thought.
Average MP Salary should be the median Canadian income. PM should be capped at $100k, party leaders at $70k. They get free travel, but only with Air Canada, as it's funded by tax payers. I'm down to give them free housing in Ottawa so they can relocate at minimal cost - but in military style housing that any of our fine men and women in uniform are able to get. Their kids are only allowed to use public schools - show faith in the infrastructure and services you are in charge of! Their benefits? The government retirement, healthcare, and unemployment available to all Canadians. Fuck all this lavish B.S., cut them back and watch our national spending get cut by 15% - and watch how quick our public services get bolstered.
This is a big problem, these politicians are getting way overpaid on the backs of the average taxpayers. It should be an equalization of the average earners. So if the average person makes between 50 and 70,000 that's what these MP should be getting. Sometimes I wonder what do these people actually do rather than just collect money and charge the taxpayers for expenses. They talk and talk and it doesn't seem like anything gets done. We need less government, so many people are struggling meanwhile they are living well for nothing. It's all bulshit.
I'm more concerned with Public Sector Employee Wages. Glad to see the Ontario Government put a wage freeze on the public sector. In Ontario, Public Sector Wages cost taxpayers $41 billion in 2018. These employee's enjoy cushion jobs with year over year wage growth, nothing compared to the private sector. I mean, there are OPP officers in small towns across Ontario who are being paid 6 digit incomes or just under for sitting in their cruiser's and responding to domestic disturbances. Must be nice to know you can make over $90,000 as starting pay. What a joke.
I dont think the issue is really with how much the elected officials get paid. Its a tough job and they're in the public eye. The issue is that the poverty line is so low and yet there are still people well below it. Lowering the income of elected officials isnt going to change that. Taxing the rich what they owe and setting up a basic universal income might be a start though.
In my riding, the MP is actually out doing more than many other politicians. He out there fighting for us little guys and he actually shows up regularly at many community functions whether his party is elected or not. He goes to many anniversary parties and to all the nursing homes and not only at voting time. He takes phone calls at all hours and cares for the valley he represents. He attends all the question periods and he has the responibility of an area where many of the jobs have that has dried up. I don't begrudge what he gets paid because he honestly is doing his best for an area that most people overlook and don't care about. However, I will admit that most politians are overpaid and care more about the perks that their position can bring.Very few politicans left like him today but there are some.
I think every prime minister, as a sign of faith in his country's minimum wage, should have to live on minimum wage for two of the four years he's in office. They can live in an apartment like they make most Canadians since they refuse to do their jobs and lower housing prices.
Good. Keep calling them ALL out EQUALLY. And don't worry about who's getting triggered. Everyone needs to grow a thicker skin and stop being so damn weak. I can not stand snowflakes. Especially, those in Leadership roles.
I think all these MPs should have to work from Prison cells. Put yourselves amung the lowest of our society and show us your true compassion and understanding from that perspective.
I still say politicians shouldn't get a penny more than what they allow as the BASIC welfare income. After all, they're the ones that think its enough to live on. And that way we'd accomplish at least two things, minimum; 1) Better likelihood of getting people who AREN'T in it for the money, and 2) Our national debt and expenses would be DRAMATICALLY reduced, allowing for more resources to actually be used for, and returned to, our own people and nation. Just for starters!
We just should ask them if they would take a 50% cut in wages ,they might not mind a bit. Their job is like a waitress's job the base pay doesn't really matter they make all their money on the gratuities they receive, from the lobbyists. I was told
Now with Covid issues and many people losing their jobs & businesses, people need to vote for more control on government salaries with their total disconnect of reality of what average people live like and the stress of money issues. Hopefully this will change with the end of the monarchy. Long live the queen!
They should be paid more for 2 reasons. The main one is to make them less suseptable on bribery and dirty money - same reason judges need to be paid well. Worth every penny. The second reason is to level the playing field, some mps come into the job working class, some parties represent poorer classes than others, to make the risk of running worth it for these mps they should all be paid well once elected; otherwise parliament will remain an exclusive playground for the rich hobbiest. Also, you seen the housing prices in Ottawa lately?
Stop paying your taxes...wait... you pay taxes on fuel. You pay taxes every time you buy something from a store. You pay taxes on your phone bill. LOL. You can never stop paying taxes. Welcome to Canada.
@@walleyperch it really seems disingenuous of these people to criticize gov't salaries (regardless of whether or not I agree with them), while profiting off taxpayers.
This is all true! These Canadian Political Figures make over $300,000 a year tax free while middle to low income people have to pay taxes. How the fck is this fair? I make just over 30 grand a year. I struggle to survive sometimes. I get taxed about $5000.00 per year. I can do alot with that $5000.00 dollars. I can't even take a weekend to Jasper!
Fuck the extortion tax than! Trudeau lies, I lie. Why not, what is good for him is good for me. All you have to say when confronted by the EXTORTION company for not paying tax is "I am sorry, I will not do it again" and you are just fine! Mr. Income tax, I am not forwarding any funds to you since you stole my work from me and therefore, forced me to prioritize my responsibilities towards my family and than my beloved province of ALBERTA! No more money for the French welfare state that resides in this NEOMARXIST federation called the PRC PEOPLES REPUBLIC of CANADA. It took only four years to brainwash 50% of stupids in Canadistan to elect a true COMMUNIST dictatorship in Ottawa. Shit even STALIN would scratch his head in disbelief and definitely retire from the communist party that would resemble a kindergarten in comparison to the present Canadian liberal party! We are stupid or what? Even a cat fights when cornered by ANYTHING!
Being a Politician is a high-power, important job. The position deserves a good salary, but why don't we have highly qualified people in those positions? Economists, Lawyers, MBA's, etc. with very strong resumes, and demonstrated work histories... And, why don't they post their resumes when they are seeking election? Essentially, we are hiring them. I want the BEST candidates for those jobs. Good educations, and lots of work experience in their fields of expertise.
The most thay should make is 40.,000 45,000 a year. And thats 52 weeks of the year. Thay should be there for the job not the money. Corruption is ramped. Anyone who believes in feeling over facts. Should have no place in government.
Their supposes should not have free access to the travel points. They should have to pay their own ticket. And what's with the "secondary housing" allowance. I never knew about that. That should be discontinued.
It would be nice if Canadian satire could be a bit more critical and reflective rather than playing for cheap laughs. This is a good topic to discuss, but a housing allowance makes sense. They are expected to be in Ottawa regularly and also return to their ridings. They destroy their own arguments by making unreflective comments like that. MPs don't need to be paid more and we could cut their expenses, but they need housing allowance and to have staff. The whole point is to make sure that anyone (in theory) can run for office rather than only allowing the rich to hold these positions.
Don t need any of them they do not represent the people only themselves certainly not worth that amount of salary Paying criminals make taxpayers complicit in their crimes think about it I do not consent Where there are LIARS there are THIEVES
Our politicians, senate and the Governor General... these people are so overpaid, and extra benefits. They get in on a popularity contest, most of them just there for the benefits and the pension. The pension should not click in until their age and time served add up to 80 years, or they turn 65...like most pensions in the real world.
You keep forgetting that politicians are lazy, losers who don't give a damn about you and me but are only in it from the free meals, expense account, fat paychecks and fat pensions while the rest of struggle just to make ends meet and live in perpetual debt just to stay ahead of the game. While we hope and pray our kids can become a doctor or a lawyer or something special, they are wealthy pigs at the trough with guaranteed everything in life.
In my opinion I think a politicians salary should be the average salary of the people +15% +20k that way you know their not in it for the salary and they also have a incentive to get higher average incomes.
Putting aside the argument they're already paid too much, a lot of politicians are stepping down in terms of income already and increasing it won't really make it a "step up", and politicians would be too busy to spend money the way most people would until they're out of office. Increasing salary to incentivise people to run doesn't really hold up much.
What if you’re a joe schmuk wanting to make as much as them through your own hustle? But we pay them that much to take half of our hustle. Which begs to question - Is their salary tax free?
That doesnt bother me too much. Its still peanuts. It might kinda sting but im pretty sure i dont want their headaches. Just wish they'd fucking address the issues we care about.
How much is the cast of this show paid? What's the production cost of the show, all in? Yeah. CBC and cast not gonna tell. They're laughing all the way to the bank and people believe this swill? Garbage. Absolute garbage. Class warfare does exist and this show is on the wrong side of history regardless of their political edge. Moore millionaires... Definition- Make thousands or millions of dollars vilifying the system that made one the thousands or millions of dollars. CBC is embarrassing. Completely fraudulent.
