When I was a little boy 7 or 8 this is when the show was on air in the UK I went to a exhibition to see all the models from the show and to this day it's still fresh in my mind and I'm 55 now ,great work Boyed .
@@TrekWorks To see the models that they used was like I was there in the show they displayed in away like they were filming it in a semi dark room and I could still smell those models not in a horrible way
I have the original model (Toy - box and all) from 1977 about 3ft long. I recently took it from my parents house and I plan on repainting it this winter. Thanks for providing the info for the decals as I will have to replace them and didn't know what to do about them.
When I was young I made my space ships from Plasticine including the Eagle from space 1999.thoughs were the days . I was and properly good at it.Good video made me want to purchase one.
I built the 14 inch version I absolutely love this kit I had a blast building it ...I agree the engine pods where a little pain in the butt ...maybe we can post our eagles lol ...again great job 👏 👍
Nice job Boyd. Glad to know I wasn't the only one who accidentally assembled the pods the with the wrong orientation. Built this one a while back and did the same thing. The decals turned out nice too. I made my own sheet but I may use the HDA set with the lab/booster Eagle I'll be working on in 2022. Didn't know HDA had one. Thanks for sharing. Beautiful work as always and Happy Holidays!
Great work! Incidentally there were actually 3 44” Eagles used in the production of the show, two in the first season and the third was introduced in the second. All 3 survive to this day and I know all 3 guys who own them 😁👍
16:50, and it can fly...lol !!, wonderful memories, This TV show, Stars War, Galactica and my father giving al sort of airplane and spaceships models made me become an Aeropace Engineer, now I design flight vehicles. Love it, thatnk you for sharing. I just ordered this model from Ebay.
Absolutely fantastic job on this Boyd! I think it's ingenious how you did the domes on the figure's helmets! You're right, that back section with all that tubing was really tricky. I had to really take my time with that part. I agree that the possibilities for the weathering are unlimited. I made mine pretty weathered and it turned out really nice. Maybe I'll do a video on it. It is an excellent kit and I've been tempted to do another one as well. Great job on this! But you are the Model Master so I'm not surprised!
Strongly recommend the Polar Lights Booster Pack for an add-on. Used the metal engine bells to add $$ to the cost and went with a prebuilt Rescue Eagle and an Eagle 2 for modification. Merry Christmas
Nice job, love the lighting. I remember my buddy down the street getting the big Mattel toy for Christmas back in the late 70s. We had an absolute blast playing with that along with my Star Wars tie fighters. Good times.
That turned out really nice. I got one for Christmas a few years ago but haven’t had a minute to work on it. This video might just get me moving forward on it.
Nice job a big fan of this show as a youngster! Had a fair few of the DINKY brand diecast Eagles back in the day they had interchangeable modules. Loved them wish I still had one they are mega costly now like all the DINKY Diecast Thunderbirds I also had!
You sir have done an awesome job with this eagle. Love the spring action on the landing gear. One thing I've noticed from the show, even though the landing gear can be in the stowed position, it is never shown that way in the show.
nice one dude. I was lucky enough to see one of the original studio models here in uk. It was really big. This model is very good. I keep thinking of what a "new "version of it might look like. Having seen folks build various Gerry Anderson vehicles from scratch I am tempted to try an update of the Eagle.... That ships shape is timeless.... subd some time back, your work is very very good.
Beautiful build! I bought the pre-built Eagle because this kit looked intimidating, especially with my lack of skills, but I'm going to order this and hope my skills will get better.
Glad you are going for it. The kit is really designed well and as long as you pay attention to the instructions, it's not super difficult to build. Most of all have fun :)
Amazing build! I'm finally getting started on mine... one thing I noticed about this kit was the Apollo lunar modules that are in the fore and aft details. Once I saw them, it was impossible for me to un-see them. I wish (they) wouldn't do that. Anyway, I'll find a way to alter the appearance of those areas. Other than that, It's a very cool model overall. 😎
That looks totally awesome!! I bought this kit a couple months ago, and I'm still working up my courage to tackle it. A Merry Christmas to you and the family!
Boyd the Eagle looks awesome I have 3 Eagle kits new kit- 1:72 scale from MPC/Round 2 Eagle with Cargo Pod and the one you just build thanks for the tips and sharing this awesome kit have a great day.
Very good trick with the Tamiya Smoke on those windows-- interesting and it works. Good stuff-- best of these holidays to you and yours-- plus Happy New Year.
You did a fantastic job, Boyd! When I was a little kid, I got the Mattel Eagle 1 playset for Christmas. It was huge. I wonder how big that toy was compared to this? I bought the pre-finished rescue Eagle. It's beautiful, but it doesn't have lights.
I have the Mattel Eagle 1 which I did a custom repaint on a few years ago. I also repainted the figures which came with it to make them a little more TV accurate. I believe the Mattel Eagle is almost three feet in length. It was certainly the Legacy Millennium Falcon and GI Joe USS Flagg of its day. Big seller in 1976.
Boyd+ great job I've got all three of these eagle kits I have the standard eagle the labrtory pod one and the one with the cargo pod with the nuclear waste containers and the optional whench and the new 14" inch eagle
Beautiful job, I not long ago finished my own kit and although at times it was a labour of love cleaning up hundreds of seem lines, I miss being immersed in this project! Fabulous work fella and a great video! Jas👍
Before X-wing fighters and Tie fighters this was it for famous Sci-fi spacecraft. Very realistic for the time. Now they fly around in space like WWII dogfighters. Ever notice that even with modern space tech and laser blasters that they still miss a lot? Even today we can shoot more accurate than that. 😁
I've always felt the Eagle could absolutely be built today using either current or not so distant technology. It looks earth borne and designed using a slide ruler and protractor. No warp engines, no hyperspace but built like a rock......
Thanks Boyd I tried this model but got bad warping of the upper truss so it got retired. I'll see if I can straighten it with heat or try again from new following your advice. Its always been my favourite sci fi ship
I used to straighten models like the galactica by slowly warming the plastic over a kitchen stove burner . Hold it straight and have the water running in the sink to quickly harden it . The enterprise would sag too .
My problem is storage for fuel? Look at SpaceX Starship, the engines look almost the same but reality dictates that you really need some form of fuel storage. It would be cool to add what Starship is with fantasy space1999 Eagle. Or another idea would be to turn the Eagle into a drone!
hi Boyd , looks fantastic , love the eagle , quick question , do you know if you can get spares for this kit ?? two of my landing feet have broken , thanks Pete :)
