Even though this video is a year old I'm glad I saw it now. I was just getting ready to purchase this decal set and glad I hesitated. Have you heard yet if they fixed it and if so, how you can tell when buying on eBay? Your Eagle looks Fantastic.
@ TrekWorks for my Eagles builds I used softer Springs 0.4×8×25mm from ebay the Eagle will sit just right & I also used HDA decals they work perfectly thanks for the info on the round2 decals I have a set but haven't used them.
I just started adding the decals to the USS Reliant 1/1000 kit. I started having the same issues but I soon discovered how to resolve them. The instructions that came with decal set says to soak them in water for 10 seconds. I suggest to let them soak in the water for 40+ seconds. The decals will slide easier and less chance of them breaking. They are thinner than the ones that come with the kits, so there's a higher chance of them breaking and if they fold over while applying them to the model, they are harder to straighten out. Overall, the decal set I had wasn't too bad and I found it easier to apply them before doing final assembly.
Boyd, I’m surprised! Many, many videos ago you used a product to seal decals on a Star Trek Model. I believe it’s Testors Decal Bonder spray. I recently repainted an HO scale locomotive and the aftermarket decals were REALLY fragile. 2 coats of the decal binder cured that!
I tried every trick I know of but to no avail. The decal film is just too thin. I contacted Round 2 and they are going to replace the set. Fingers crossed the new set will be fine.
I had the MPC decals on pre-order with Culttvman and then I decided that since I already had the HD set I didn't need them and cancelled the order. Now i'm so glad I did. But I also wonder, I found this stuff called liquid decal film that works miracles with the old decals that come with some of the vintage kits I've been building... Maybe this liquid decal film would help in this case ?
It may, they need to be more solid and not shrink and wrinkle so easily. I've done similar with decal bonder and spraying clear lacquer over the sheets. It helps but you lose the die cut edges and they all have to be cut out exact to the shape of the image. They sent me a new set, I need test one to find out if they are better.
@@TrekWorks HUM , Even with this liquid decal stuff they'll still need to be cut out to size. I learned that lesson the hard way the first time I used it. Still I found it well worth the extra step with an exact knife with some of these old decal sheets
There were some people on the net discussing the springs they were using that had the perfect bounce and balance. I can't remember where they were getting them from but in your case it would be different anyway since you have the added battery weight. I hope you find what you're looking for. Really unfortunate about those decals. I built mine before the had those so I ended up weathering and paneling mine with good ol' masking tape and pastels.
I found a set made by a company called Blixkit that are for the kit and are softer than the supplied set. They are out of stock though so I'll probably just make my own out of wire.
Hi Boyd, I bought a few 4x4 inch blister boxes of assorted springs at Home Depot and in the pack it has different lenghts, thickneses, spring compression resistance and colors like gloss black, gun metal and chrome looking...I think I paid $3.00 a box I used quite a few of them on car models, I think you get like 50 or so in a pack of assorted springs don't quote me one how many is in a pack it was a few years ago and the labels came off the packages had them stored in a very dry place. but there are many that you can make pairs of but what I did was bought two just in case. If you find them and purchase a few let us know. I hope this helps out and have a good one Bro.

This has me a little worried as I just recently purchased a decal set for the Polar Lights Star Trek 1/1000 kits Enterprise and Reliant. Hopefully, there won't be any issue with them but it's nice to have a heads up on decal sets that are sold separately from the kits.
I never had an issue with the 1/1000 decals I used on my kits last year. However I did find giving them a light coat of Tamiya X20A thinners really helped to bed them down.
The Hda decals are always excellent. Keep in mind that the Hda set does not include the weathering decals or the decals for the lab pod version. Only for the basic Eagle 1,2 or the rescue version.
Its odd about the blue paper...thats what they use for the discovery series kits and those seem to work fine. They should just get Jerry to start doing the decals lol.
This may not help Boyd, but it might be worth soaking the decal in some dish washing soapy water, that would break the surface tension, and help stop the decal from sticking together, giving you a fighting chance of using them.
Thanks for the tip but I've tried every trick I know. The problem is more than just folding, it's the wrinkling too. Think of it like wet tissue paper bad and that's how they look the second you slide them off the backing paper.
What paint did you use to paint your Eagles.Unless I am mistaken a somewhat gloss finish must be applied to kit before putting on the decals in order for the decals to hug the surface better and prevent the silvering of the decals.Does someone then put a flat clear flat finish over the decals and Eagle surface.
I’ve watched some of the documentary’s about the show, and they all seem to agree that the second and third season re-tools really changed the direction of the story. In a negative way. I agree. I enjoyed the show, for sure, but I would have preferred they had stayed with the original direction. I do believe the Eagle’s represented a fairly accurate depiction of a workable design.
Season one was superb. Season two became the guy in a rubber monster costume of the week each episode. I did like the new characters that came in later on though.
Yea got the same problems with my decals too the price of the decals in the uk and the postage too made them expensive as well really good to look at but a let down really
I showed and talked about doing that during the video. it didn't help. After I contacted Round 2 they are sending me a replacement set. I hope it's better.
