When I use the word stepping I am talking about how controllers with absolute values can make major jumps between values when selecting between multiple parameters.

This endles encoders and 16 sets of programs are incredible! And it is a sequencer... and MIDI to CV converter. Just bought one (used, 40$)for iOS Koala sampler. I am so excited :)

I'm new to beat making and this is super helpful. I thought I made a mistake buying an Arturia Minilab Mk2 because it wouldn't switch drum pad banks, or control anything with the encoder knobs. Thanks to this video it now works perfect. Thanks for the in depth video with clear instructions.

Hi Matthew, thank you so much for this and all your other content. I’ve just started making digital music and your channel is helping me so much. I have hit a bit of an issue with channel selection on MPC Beats for my Beatstep pro. It’s playing on the drum channel and controller channel and I want to assign the controller channel for MPC Beats. Is there a work round for this? Thank you in advance.

thank you very much for helping me setup my akai LPD8 with MPC Beats. I wish to use the DAW because the effects sounds dreamy to me. I am only a bit squeeze because we're only allowed 2 audio tracks. Great video. How are the knobs? Are they smooth or are they 'notchy' when you turn them? For example are you able to increment/decrement values 1 by 1 without jumping and skipping??? Thanks

Am I able to utilize this to control volumes on a Boss RC 600 looper? I bought this from Sweetwater after they stated ability to work with Boss RC 600 looper. Sadly not getting the tech support I expected.

Thanks for this great vid, man! Wondering if you can help. No matter what midi controller I custom-map, I can't seem to get sample editor Trim to move in fine increments... annoying as hell (always jumping). Even the Start x1 q-link. Is there a snap setting I'm missing somewhere? The q-links work great with volume and all other settings but even a short sample, it jumps and the only way to hit the transient is to use the mouse to move the start marker. Hoping it's something I'm missing... I literally tried 5 different midi controllers, including Beatstep! Thanks man! EDIT: Figured out the problem. You can't use Absolute mode.... you can, but it jumps. Relative worked perfectly (with Beatstep, Novation SL MKIII, etc). I had to set it to Relative Offset, not the main Relative mode, but it works flawlessly. Thanks so much for your video. I didn't even think to set it to Relative (the midi hardware itself) because Absolute was working.

I'm loving the new tutorials on MPC Beats... I'm trying to use my old MPC 2500 as my controller but, the pads don't sync up.. For example I hit pad A01 and A02 responds. Any thoughts on where I can change these parameters.... Thanks Antonio

Can you please tell me why my pads on my controller do not correspond with the same pads in the software? I press pad 1 and it is a totally different pad in the software. Very frustrating. I just switched to MPC 2.xxx from Logic. So I’m still learning, and I understand this is MPC beats but the 2.xxx software should be close to the same. How do I fix this problem. Also I can’t get the q links to work. I have an MPD218.

You can put the pads in MIDI CC mode and MIDI learn the the pads to start and stop in the software. Only problem then is that your pads will be for start and stop and you will have to put the pads back in bank A/B mode to be able to play note in the software.

Did you watch the video and do everything in there? Turn on CONTROL in preferences? Opened up Control+Shift+L panel and clicked LEARN? THen what?

Can you do another video and show us what you have done there like explaining to a lay man. Did you install another software in oder to match the pads? Cause I see in the video something that looks exactly like your controller appearing, I use the mpd232

Hello. I don't have the MPD232...not sure that I can do a video for it. You should be able to learn the pads like I showed in this video. Press the learn button , click the pad you want to learn in the software, then tap the pad.

Been having problems with MPD 226, specifically the qlinks when chopping samples. Absolute mode is crazy sensitive, especially on longer samples, it just rushes from one end to the other when trying to move a start or end point. I thought my luck was in watching this. I duplicated the midi mapping and change the knobs to REL and it just displays very odd bwhaviour. Delay to moving the start point, not entirly sure it knows where it wants to end up. Just unusable. I bought the MPD thinking it would enable hands off the computer editing to samples. Really disapointed. Hoping its just something I have missed but at this rate, the MPD will have to be sold and the look for an alternative begins.
