put into words perfectly. i’ve been struggling with the concept of making videos i truly love and enjoy, over videos i know will show numbers. i’ve decided to accept that if i have to compromise doing what i love in order to get the biggest reward (views), it’s not worth it. but then again, maybe the biggest reward is really just creating something you love with your whole heart, for the few people who it will really resonate with.
I feel this so much! I just started doing RU-vid and have been watching different videos on "starting a channel" and it's definitely pushed me to do a lot of thinking in terms of creating content I'm passionate about vs content that is more searchable / will get me views... it's a tricky balance, but focussing on making videos I first and foremost like keeps me level headed and focused, but it's definitely still hard.
Feedback is important, but you can’t let it define you from your origin. Every creator has their own path and thought process for sure. Live and learn my friends!
Media is evolving. People doesn't want long ass videos anymore. It's all becoming "swipe down shorts". And I hate this. I don't want to see people dress up in some weird shit and dance like a baby. When i give my time to you, to all of the youtubers, I want to get content. Real content, real stories. I want to learn, i want to see new ideas, beliefs. I hate how everything is evolving. But you, and other youtubers can protect youtube, you can make youtube great again. With weird thumbnails and boring videos maybe, but i definitely believe your videos have VALUE. I believe in you, I don't want it to change, I want it to stay!
This is literally the battle in Hollywood right now.. I respect you sticking up for ART and not quick social media clout. Keep making great ART. Everything you make isn’t going to be great, but this is definitely ur best in a while. And it’s because you’re not overthinking. Just do what you feel bro and the rest is history! No matter what you make I’ll be here to watch off of your creative experimenting alone.
Yeah dude, funny how Hollywood is the same way with them remaking every successful franchise. I'm glad there are companies like A24 standing up to that.
I almost clicked off the video when I realized it wasn't what I thought it was, but here I am 12 minutes and 55 seconds later in total awe. This video was not only informative and amazingly put together, but it also felt new to me. It felt like watching that new genre Casey and Logan were talking about. You absolutely nailed it on this one keep it up!
Your videos has helped me realize what is wrong with my life these days, for 10 or so years i was getting bags of views with little to no clickbait and my brain was traumatized with the new pattern my channel took that is downwards. Staying in the horrible zone made me realise that my self worth is tied to the views i get and i got the similar feeling of breaking my golden button since i barely get views anymore. Someone who use to get millions has to settle with 20 k. The worst part was my brain didnt think of new ideas that i wanted to make. I instantly thought of most clickbait, MORE thirst trap which led me in the spiral of just thinking and sleeping all day. A place of mental health that ended me. Thank you for you channel. and i clicked on your Silver Button video thinking youtube sent you a broken button but accidently found what i call my RU-vid MENTAL HEALTH expert!
This video is literally my late night conversation to myself on screen. I share these same values and thoughts as you. I couldn't stop myself from screaming YES! over and over as you stated your goal and how you are going to execute your vision. Once again, thank you for your vulnerability and thank you for continuting to inspire filmmakers like me. You are the head of the new wave of vloggers, and I will join you on this mission soon.

Yeah bro, I had a video that blew up at the same time that yours did and have been still trying to find my way forward as well. Someone sent left a comment that said "It's like you have all the ingredients for a recipe except 1" That shit hit home, I'm still trying to figure out what that last ingredient is... I think you're right though, I'd rather fail and have it not work out making shit I want to make rather than trying to pander to the masses. Keep your head up and keep creating. Honestly, this right here is telling a super interesting story that is both personal and reflective of your more average life but also dives into a lot of bigger ideas/ spectacle. Telling stories about the world/ youtube like this and connecting it to your own life seems like a good model tbh
I believe that you guys are the new way of the vlogs, and soon enough the fast and intense vlogging will come to an end, and you and Max will be right there to take the place of vlogs. That being said keep doing your style and don’t conform to the so called “way to vlog”.
I've been following you ever since I first saw your University video (I think u only had a few more videos apart from that) . Your channel has always been like a quiet place, rather than the sunny, happy day that all channels try to show, whenever I watch something for you it feels more like a rainy day, in the best way possible. I cannot explain how nostalgic I felt seeing the Shaytards, Kevjumba and Fred. I don't know you personally Ryan but I can't help but feel proud of you, the stuff you create, and how steadfast you remain with refusing to adhere to the idea of fast-paced, spectacle-centered films. I know the 7k and less must feel like your work doesn't fit this "game" but I do assure you there are people who see how this kind of art is really very special, and that matters. I do believe more and more people will start to see it too. Also what you wrote at the end of the director's commentary really blew my mind, the possibility of a 1 month video being done in 1 week just by not overthinking making me overthink overthinking AHAHAHA. I'm excited for 2022 and how this genre will grow :)
I know right?! Making this video made me so nostalgic about past RU-vidrs. I'm so glad that people like yourself are supporting this channel at an early stage. Really it means the absolute world. And yes, it took me a LONG time to stop over thinking. I think it was just forcing myself to move forward, I set deadline for myself and I think that saved me.
Just found ur channel and subbed … this video is amazing and so relatable … i had made a video just talking and sharing about the way i felt pressurised to keep trying to do something crazier to add into my videos and so to counteract that i made a video to share the opposite (not doing anything cool and sharing the pressure i felt) and i got a comment criticising the video saying “upload only when you have something cool to show or share not this” and that stung so i made one of the worst decisions and deleted that video … and till date i regret deleting that video because it was absolutely honest and true to me and what i was feeling … so thank you for sharing this man … i really found this video Powerful ❤️💯

The raw energy that is brought to life in your recent vlogs is exactly what keeps me coming back. When you showed all the OG YT-ers: Shaytards, Ryan Higa, Jenna etc, my heart genuinely fluttered, it was pure joy. But I found different YT avenues and the recent rise of crazy ass vloggers never appealed to me. However, you along with other awesome gen z vloggers are bringing it back to a more grounded, centered point which we so desperately need. I know one day, I will look back at this era and have the same heart fluttering for all your guys videos. Keep doing it Ryan, this crazy world needs 'boring' calm to balance it!

Wow, this video was so well done! You said exactly what is currently going on with RU-vid and the creators. I loved the examples you pulled from other creators as well. RU-vid vloggers do have a tough path ahead, but I really think the next wave of vlogging is going to be people living their normal lives. More lokey and not the crazy stuff we see today.
Absolutely refreshing. It's hard to cut through the noise with such introspective work, but its work like this that resonates much more deeply than the quick, instantly gratifying, spectacle content that you talk about. Like anything with real meaning, it resonates and clings on to the soul far longer and stronger than its counterpart. The payoff tho is the emotional investment that goes into this type of work as well, since expecting instant gratification is counter intuitive. I think you're art though, when discovered, will more likely have longterm recipricals that may have the potential to outlive your own life. Who knows... ^_^' Love your work!

What an absolute inspiration you are! This video really resonated with me as I try to grow my platform, trying to follow all the trends, the fast paced lifestyle etc. your words and your storytelling skills of showing the art in realness is very motivating. I think a mixture of fast and slow videos might be the balance that we need in this world instead of always trying to one up each other. Genuinity is a must and I think people value that regarding of the pacing of the video. Great video and I am excited to see what you will produce in the future!
What a captivating video with great message! I also feel like RU-vid is becoming stale, probably not because authentic and compelling content isn't there, it's just that RU-vid pushes out the type of content you've watched before or what grabs the average viewer's attention. Those of us who don't buy into doing fast-paced dopamine hits seem to get the short end for now. But I'm sure the tide will turn and it may well be that in the future more harmonious or unique content is what people will be after.
Your videos are beautiful dude, don't let anyone make you think their not. I hope your able to help spark a new change to this platform, we need it before everyone turns braindead. And just for the record I've always found you videos gripping as heck! I never feel like I've wasted any time after your videos.

Super inspiring man - as someone who is just starting a RU-vid channel, I definitely feel the pressure to create videos that will "do numbers" or to make what is trendy, but my reality is someone who is working a corporate job on Wall St but has dreams that stretch far beyond that, and maybe that in and of itself is a story worth documenting.

People watch lift reviews, people eating food for an hour and top 10 ikea chair videos.. everyone has a place on RU-vid. That 1 on 1 connection tho is sommin that can’t be replaced, that’s feeling of being involved and a change of perspective from your reality. an audience is there for everyone

This is a really great video! I'm curious what you think about the Ryan Tryhan Daily vlog challenge he is doing right now. Do you think that is a better route than where things have been headed? Daily content, objective and story based, but a hair pulled back from the insane spectacle. (however crossing America is a spectacle for sure, but definitely more attainable to someone than a $20,000,000 mansion. I like the shift for now and hope people follow, however I think you're right overall in slowing down everything.

This was so well put together. Never in a million years did I think you would read that or use it as the beginning of a video, but I would like to ephmeszize it did come from a good place. I think we all just want to see you succeed but none of us have your brain. None of us know what your plans are or what you want to do in life and all we see is the numbers (THE STUPID NUMBERS) and I think I speak for everyone when I say we were so wrong to judge you off of the numbers. Ryan what a beauty! As a creator who makes vlogs but has a boring life (lol) this gave me hope and excited me. I find implementing a slower pace is an opportunity to make the video more cinematic or just to be real and connect to your audience as you said. 💯
i think the issue is with the type of content youtube promotes-and therefore becomes popular. Even compared to Tik Tok- youtube’s algorithms for sharing new and different creators is lacking. i’m seeing a difference between creators that deeply care about their content (it is nourishing), and the creators that care about the views (fast food). RU-vid needs to work on bridging these two sides.
I don't think your videos are boring at all. They are one of my favourites, different than all the rest. It always feels like watching a movie, not just RU-vid. Thanks for sharing the vloging over the years. This brought so many memories and not only. 👍
Yes. I’m a content creator in Mexico, I agree. I’ve been studying youtube for 2 years nonstop to come up with a revolutionized channel that fits the “mr beast” format. It’s been 2 years cuz 1) I was getting ready and had other things to do & 2) cuz I just can’t, I’m not happy with the idea of being that type of youtuber. So… I found your channel and absolutely inspired me again, I love this. Keep it up. I’m with you!

Hell yeah bro. This video had me so hyped. It's just so refreshing to see someone who seemingly lived such a similar experience to me, as far as the entertainment we consumed. Majority of my friends, I can't talk about the Shaytards, or Roman, or Smosh about, but thats literally what I grew up on. Day after day, through every era of RU-vid, I've been watching. I truly believe it's kids like you and me who can form the next chapter of vlogging / RU-vid. My personal journey with creating has timed so perfectly with the creation of the RU-vid New Wave. I quit my vlog 2 years ago now, I never intended for it to end, it was just supposed to be a break for a month or so. That then turned into 6, then a year, now 2, almost 3 years. In that time away, the majority of the content I've consumed has been creators like Colin and Samir, Hayden Hillier-Smith, or Film Booth. Channels like that. I think I thought if I kept watching videos about how to grow my channel, then eventually, when I came back, I'd be some genius at making the best, most optimized content. In the last year or so though, I've come to the realization I just don't think I care to be in that rat-race of chasing views. Thats not what I was ever in it for in the first place. I fell in love with RU-vid because it represented freedom to me. Somewhere anybody could create what they wanted and grow a community for it. What I'm trying to say is... really awesome video dawg. Keep up the good work. The more I watch, the more it hits home.
Great video I respect this sort of thinking and approach what many do is copy a winning formula and people think that's the way things should be not everything is about views ,likes comments and subs .every video is different and made for a different purpose and every creator is different & should be allowed to experiment and express themselves in a non traditional /unpopular way that's what makes watching and making videos fun seeing what an individual brings to the table . I'd rather watch a video like yours than a lot of these massive youtubers doing extreme wild things which is just click bait yes there's a skill to it and has it's place . It'd be nice if more people thought like you instead just trying to jump on trends etc I think things will balance out eventually anyway all the best with all you do
There’s a difference between content for the moment and content made to last Mr beast videos are made to get views now and start the next big project, vlogs are made to be looked back on and see memories and capsulate time

Ah, I love this so much man. I always spoke about this same issue with friends and would rant on and on about how RU-vid has evolved to become the new TV. It's so frustrating to keep up with the beast. It feels so entertainment-driven nowadays... Give value X, have hook Y, be consistent with Z...it's a freaking headache when you want to create original art, and art that continues to challenge yourself as an artist. It's great to see your channel blow up, but I'm more impressed by your integrity and transparency. Keep it up. I now work at a edu-tech start-up called Nas Academy, where I design courses all about content creation; I get to work with well-established content creators that I'm sure me and you follow, and I hope to make a positive impact on this space and bring back important values RU-vid lost many moons ago. Goosebumps! I found you from Colin/Samar's newsletter and as an attorney in Hollywood I was interested in your thoughts on why Hollywood is dead. This video is SO GOOD and gave me hope because I do not want to create content like Mr, Beast or Logan Paul, who are masters, but not my vibe. I want to be slow and thougtful and not just LOUD and scream--look at me. I discovered EMMA just a few months ago and I am not her audience as I am a MOM and older but I love how raw and vulnerable she is and growing up as an immigrant in America, I did not have the luxury of being vulnerable or pursing my dreams. But 20 years later, after going to college as an English major with dreams of being a storyteller, my channel is about pulling back the veil a bit through the eyes of a working mom who happens to be an attorney in Hollywood. I LOVE your content and storytelling! Can't wait for you to hit 1M subscribers! You are so smart and thoughtful, well done!
