Mr Bungle is THE definition of an acquired taste. Y'all just aint ready yet. And the faces both Ryan and George have at 17:20 is how I know y'all aint ready yet. But a few more listens and I am sure you'll get there, or maybe not. Mr. Bungle aint for erryone. I LOVE MR BUNGLE, FNM, and Mike Patton projects, and actually Mr Bungle was Patton's first project before he joined FNM. Mr Bungle was his and his friends' baby. The Swayze song was written/used in his film "Dirty Dancing". Mr. Bungle was actually the band Mike Patton was in before Faith No More. It was his performance with them that got him the gig with F.N.M. The name "Mr. Bungle" came from a series of films made for school children to teach them the importance of manners and good hygene. Musically speaking. NOTHING prepares one for the first Mr. Bungle album. I would say that this album was created to try to break people's brains in a if they don't break their own in the process. Mr Bungle are almost impossible to "React" to out of context! Their three main albums work as concepts to some degree, and the album Mr Bungle can take you to all kinds of imaginary places. Featuring plenty of ambient soundscapes and samples between songs, the sheer mystery of it makes the album as a whole very compelling. I first heard this album in the dark during a sleepover as a 14 year old, and the guy playing it prepared us, warning that it's scary and weird, which is better than going in blind! It's not meant to be popular, it's meant to be difficult and challenging, much like certain prog-rock bands of the 70s. They're the total opposite of loose, or bungling. Imagine playing one of those songs twice, remembering all the tight changes and dozens of riffs. It's the literal opposite of easy listening, and I think it's aural art. When the 2nd album, Disco Volante, came out I was disappointed because it wasn't what "I expected", proving that even as a lover of Mr Bungle, they could challenge the shit out of my musical senses of what's right or wrong. Another point to note is that Mike Patton's lyrics are meant to sound interesting, and often are just semi-randomly put together for that purpose. The third album California is genius and far more accessible, but in the end I accept that Mr Bungle are a very divisive taste. Shouldn't music ask us questions sometimes?

If not for Mr Bungle and an older high school friend I never would have had the pleasure to see Mike Patton perform live as Peeping Tom back around 08' in Chicago. I have to agree with another commentator when they said "Let's face it, most people aren't ready for Mike Patton"! What an excellent musician. He's our Zappa!

To be noted is how many styles of music they can fit into one song. Flamenco, opera, industrial, surf guitar, clown music 🎶

Yeah, if they don't like this, they probably wouldn't appreciate Secret Chiefs 3, either.

The super cut of Patton’s different projects (Mondo Cane, Fantomas, etc) really shows that he is truly the greatest vocalist alive. He is certified as having the widest range in music with a full six octave span. You really can’t lose with any of his work... keep in mind as well when this album was recorded I think he was maybe 19... If I were to suggest a more accessible Patton piece for you guys I would say Tomahawk’s “God Hates a Coward” is a more straightforward

Demo was recorded when most of the band were 20-21. This was recorded when Mike was 23. Still very impressive.

Haha! No one's ever "ready" for Mr Bungle the first time, and you either "get it" and enjoy it, or it unravels your brain 😂

I understand why the Lost In Vegas guys used the word 'Clumsy' I notice the comment section laying into them. Mr. Bungle is definitely not clumsy or untalented. This band is a master class in anti Radio Friendly songs. Their music is created and on point. When you listen to Mr. Bungle albums you gotta clear the mind and forget about the world outside lol

I don't know where you got your data from, but Mr. Bungle wasn't a side project next to Faith No More. Mike Patton first was in Mr. Bungle, they also realised a bunch of demos with many rough drafts of song featured in this album; later he moved to FnM, and thanks to the notoriety he gathered he managed to get a deal for his first band.
