For me, favorite parts were the drawings, yes, as well as the crafts and the surprise costumes from the Tickle Trunk! And Mr. Dressup's calm yet adventurous and cheerful manner were what made it all work so well. 😊
What made him great was that he didn't have to be loud or colorful. He talked straight. Made us laugh and shared his world. It never felt like watching a show but instead like we were talking to a grandfather. Didn't hurt that he looks like mine lol.
What a great man. Grew up watching his show and it isn't until my middle age that I realized what a great man he really was and what a great contribution he made to all of us growing up.
those are the good old days my children always ask me questions about the shows ive watched and i say my favorite was is and always be mr. dressup it makes me cry when u dont see shows like these anymore. memories,memories...
My grandmother and brother and I used to watch this show a lot when we were kids XD. My grandmother liked Chester the Crow and 2 other puppets. She also liked the arts the arts and crafts part of it. I wish shows like this still were on TV. Educating them about day to day stuff and showing them all kinds arts and crafts :D. Also I think there needs to be a biopic of this great mans life. He deserves to be introduced to kids of today.
I'm in my 60s now - I so well remember watching my two favourite shows, Mr. Dressup and Friendly Giant while all my older siblings were at school. Watching this is bittersweet - I hope kids now are able to have someone like Mr. Dressup - he was the funny uncle full of energy and ideas. I would watch the show and then ask my mom for bags, or toilet paper tubes or whatever it was that he'd made something out of that day. I honestly think that the relaxed pace of his show - and Mr. Rogers - was good for kids. It gave us time to breath and think and just watch and listen - and they never talked down to us, Mr. Dressup spoke to his audience - not at. This almost brings a tear to my eye.
it was SUPER rare for that owl painting at 1:18 to open its eyes and talk with Mr D. I would always hope for that every time it was in frame. any footage of that anywhere?
Wow! I haven't seen Casey and Finnegan for a long long time! But I wonder if anyone else felt the same as I did when I was 5. This whole show was depressing and it used to creep me out...but my mom made me watch it. :(
It makes sense that they would record the show, and then the following year air in on TV. That’s pretty normal especially if they recorded it at the end of 1985
Mr.Dressup "Something that comes from chickens". Me "Eggs". I am 45 and I still answer like a little child. When he says eggs I start clapping because I was right.
The old expression "compare apples to oranges" actually works well in this case. Just as oranges & apples are delicious, just used in different ways, so Mr. Rogers & Mr. Dressup both gave children wonderful ideas to use in the outside world. Rare & lucky the child (on the Canada-US border) who grew up with both.
Same here. And dare I say it, Mr. dresser was even better than Mr. Rogers. 'Under the umbrella tree' is another wonderful kids show that aired during the late 80's and early 90s
I used to get ASMR highs watching mr. dressup do arts and crafts as a kid. back then I had no idea what that feeling in my head was until years later. RIP Ernie Coombs, you brought joy and amusement to a generation of kids, a joy and amusement the next generation will never understand.
Mr Dressup (Ernie Coombs) was an American immigrant. He was born and raised in Lewiston Maine and came here in his 30s to work with Fred Rogers. the woman who voiced Casey is named Judith Lawrence. she is originally from Australia moved here in her 20s. She was a kindergarten teacher before Mr Dressup she now lives in BC
I miss the days when good men were prominent in the education and guidance of children. In these days the morning t.v was full of Mr. Dressup, Fred Penner, Mr. Rogers, Captain Kangaroo, The Friendly Giant, The narrator from Hammy Hamster, Reading Rainbow's Levar Burton, Today's Special, and some good men on the Muppet Show as guests and Sesame Street. All positive, kind, big hearted men and excellent male roll models for boys and girls. Today's landscape seems full of cold hearted men, and women, all aspiring to ideals of power above and beyond the grasp of children, or just ditzy and condescending and not telling stories or taking us on adventures of the imagination.. These men were honest, slow and soft talking, kind, but strong, and approachable. I think we are missing something very special in the media these days for children.
That's what happens when you let progressives completely dominate the education system over decades, now they're too busy indoctrinating children to be good little liberal idiots rather than actually teach them life skills or history.
If people acted like this now they wouldnt be allowed children, prob called a pedophile. Not trying to be funny, just saying how I'd see how society would view people like this now. Such simpler times back then for sure.
Let's not compare him and Mr Rogers and say who's better. They were both amazing men who had a passion for entertaining children and making them happy. Let's just remember them for that
Loved this show when I was a kid, I always thought of him as a tall skinny version of my grandpa lol awesome show just remembered it and decided to check it out agai
I would love to see the first episode from 1967. Mr Dressup ran from1967 to 1996. That was an incredible run for a kids show. I watched it as a kid starting from when it first aired in 1967 on CBC.
"Mr. Dressup I really loved during the Casey and Finnegan era! I also personally preferred him to Mr. Rogers myself because he was more lively where he didn't always just sit on a chair and talk for hours and hours like Mr. Rogers did!"
I'm here after reading a CBC story about Judith Lawrence (Casey and Finnegan puppeteer). Oddly, the story suggests we can view Mr. Dressup on "the archives" (presumably meaning the CBC archives) but then links to this video on RU-vid.
All Canadian kids remember. this, concerned childrens advertisers PSA's and Trying to fit the word "Saskatchewan" on the tiny piece of map when colouring.
Yeah looking at it today, Mr. Dress Up would make me wonder about the guy. Never mind the tickle trunk. Creepy as hell but it was pretty cool as a kid I guess.
