Vlad would punish injustice in horrible ways and he did invade Transilvania after some shady merchants from Brașov stole some carts of iron from Valahia and his people complained. So he put Brașov through sword and fire. And Brașov was settled by German Saxons. So, in the western countries, making up stories to revenge against his punishments was very popular and lucrative. He also took back the countries of Făgăraș and Amlaș (2 regions in Transilvania, his neighbouring area controlled by Hungarians), zones which he ruled along Valahia, for they were his father, Vlad Dracul's and were legally his royal birthright. That made the merchant guilds of Brașov hate him even more.
Vlad Tepes was also known as "Drăculea" - and It's know (from some of his correspondence) that Bram Stoker knew that. So it's a big possibility he was inspired by Vlad's story. But in the books he never makes a direct connection to Vlad. Vlad III the Impaler was the sone of Vlad II Dracul. Vlad II was a member of the Order of the Dragon. Romanians used "drac" (also means devil) for "dragon", and "dracul" is "the dragon" (our definitive article is a suffix). "Drăculea" is a diminutive of "Dracul" - so it's basically "the little dragon". When it comes to the stories about Vlad the Impaler, it's known now, that many were exaggerated by his enemies - like the story about him eating food splattered with blood. And he did execute many of his countrymen - those that betrayed him or broke certain laws. He's a national hero, for us Romanians. And to those who think he was cruel on the brink to madness, I have just one thing to say: don't judge him by our modern standards!
I'm from Romania originally but I live in the UK for more then 12 years, I've been on Transfagarasan every single year during the summer time until I've moved to the UK and I can tell every single time was different emotion and happiness, we use to camp in tent for 3-4 day's in6a safe camping place by the Vidraru lake, is a 24km long lake with more then 100 speaches of fish in!!! Is just amazing naturally my country, I still hope that something in the government will change soon and I can return back home soon

Swimming in the lake is not allowed because the lake is a natural reserve. I've been there couple of weeks ago. The road, Transfagarasan, is absolutely amazing. The lake is a bit overrated, in my opinion. They could and should have done better, but I hope this will change in the future. By the way, you can buy bear pastrami on your way up.

Transfagarasan reaches 2,042 meters, being the second highest road in Romania after Transalpina. It is a winding road, with sharp hairpin turns and long S curves. when there will be no more danger of producing avalanches. There is no official date announced by the authorities and don't forget that the road reaches the altitude of 2042 meters at Bâlea Lac, and here the snow melts harder.Normally it opens in June or July depending on if there is no more danger of avalanches..””PS”” The movie Gost Riders was filmed on trasfagarasan road :)))
There are so many bears on the trail because they are used to being fed by tourists, although it is forbidden to feed bears, tourists continue to do it. 🙄🙆 15:00 Swimming is prohibited because the lake is a nature reserve. love your videos. transfagarasni is definetly the most beautiful road in romania. if you decide to follow this mountain path, there are definetly a lot more food stands and places on the side, not to mention places to stay and enjoy the peacefulness of the mountains. for some reason, the kurtos kalacs (pronounced as in "kyurtosh kolac" is more popular in romania than in hungary (cause its from the hungarian cuisine). and the corn is of 2 types most of the time: boiled or roasted. the one in the video is boiled (its my favourite. i love corn and i put corn in all my dishes). we have a lot of corn production in romania. agriculture consists in a lot of corn overall. corn has good conditions to grow naturally, by the romanian climate. but you can also find several donut stands or a lot of snacks like that on the way, its very nice. i honestly don't know why going in the lake is illegal, but my guess (as a romanian) is that a lot of places in romania are preserved or protected by national and international law. a lot of us and people from other countries are aware of the beauty and they don't wanna lose it from stuff like random trash or mud in the lake or just scaring the fish away. it also helps the economy of romania by a lot because people come here to film movies. like lord of the rings and vampire movies for example.

as a romanian. from Belgium. i recomend you to visit Romania..make 2 friends here..rent a car..use rbnb..safty is the greatest from Europe...come and enjoy..long travel indeed, but what you see in the vlogs is about 5 % what Romania have to offer... so ..think about that :)))
We have the largest population of bears in Europe, most are not aggressive, they are like stray dogs, they wait on the side of the roads, because people stop by and give them food, that doesn't mean you should get close to them, but romanian bears are usually nice, in the mountains you can go out in your yard and there is a bear going through your trash looking for food.

The Transfăgărășan road was made, designed, using donkeys. Because they walk using the less stressful paths. This is why donkeys are the best smart animals ever lived.
First of all you have a very relaxing voice. A radio voice. It sounds really nice. Second of all, YES we love our corn hahahah. Baked corn (porumb copt) or boiled corn (porumb fiert) like they had in the video, is delicious. Also sugar coated apples on a stick (mere caramelizate/glazurate) are found easily everywhere at small shops in parks, visiting places etc. Greetings from Bucharest!!!!
Thank you for sharing. We love corn in the CVaribbean. Here is the states they have what is called caramel apple, got some today acctually lol. The apple is dipped in caramel and then sometimes dipped in nuts. It is really good. I did a radio show for about 15 years.

14:49 Beside being a natural reserve, I’m not sure you would want to get in that lake, that water never gets warm enough and when you get out of it, factoring the wind chill, I would think hypothermia will set in quite fast. Noteworthy: this highway opens usually in May or June and closes around October or November. It all depends on the amount of snow it gets, between November an April that road has a very high risk of avalanches. Also this is one of the main reasons why the road maintenance lacks around there, you don’t get too much time to do it. Max height of the road: around 7900 ft
The sudden change of weather is something normal up there. I still have somewhere some pics taken by my boss who was going there to survey a portion of the road for a contract we had. It was in July, the month that is traditionally named "Oven" around here. He stopped somewhere on the way before reaching the Trans-Făgărășan Road (it's called that way because it crosses the Făgăraș Massive). In those first pics he looked drenched in sweat from the heat, on the background of a normal July mountainous landscape. The next pictures, taken on the Trans-Făgărășan, were completely different. He was fully equipped for winter, wirh cap, thick jacket, pants and boots. From the road just one lane was cleaned and visible, while the other was completely buried in somewhere between 0.5-1.0 meter of snow. The next picture was of him skiing near Bâlea lake on a thick layer of snow. That lake is so cold that it's usually frozen even during the summer. It may seem liquid, but if you try to dip your hand in it you will find out that there are ice plates right beneath the surface that are completely transparent so that you don't even perceive them, so clear the water is - just like they observed. The sudden weather changes are caused seemingly by the strong air currents from that altitudes - the plane rides over that massive are bumpy too due to the same reason from what I've heard. The road is, anyway, passable only during the summer. The rest of the year is usually closed due to bad weather and snowfalls
@@MrGiant It is indeed. From my own experience, I once travelled there with a small group of friends, in a minibus. It was October, which in our mountains is practically still like a summer month, as the weather in those areas is always a month behind the usual down in the flats. It was an unexpected trip, because we were going to visit some monasteries and one of the guys proposed, on the spur of the moment, to go to Trans-Făgărășan instead. We caught a day with a perfect weather, completely cloudless, which according to our driver who was born nearby, at Râșnov (there's a fortress to visit there too), was something even he had not seen. Some clouds, even on a sunny day, are as he said everpresent there, due to those high currents. I remember seeing patches of snow only on the crests, the rest was clean. But, as an interesting detail, there were little wisps of water flows on the rock walls all along the road, but the surface was frozen and the water was leaking beneath it, giving the strong impression of some white worms crawling under the ice surface. It looked eerie! Also the lake was, as I said before, frozen. Not frozen solid but with those transparent ice plates floating right beneath its calm surface. I dipped my hand into it and it froze instantly, so cold it was. No swimming in that place, believe me, even if it were allowed! And all this while outside it was warm enough for us to walk around in thin, summer clothes. We had a picnic up there and then crossed almost the entire road (couldn't reach all the way to the Vidraru Dam where those two guys in the vlog started, as that last portion of the road was closed for some works.) If you ever get there, I hear you can do bungee jumping from the dam. There's also a statue of Prometheus there to be seen. We then returned on the same route. The very next day a heavy blizzard hit the area and the whole road got closed until spring - so we got that incredible day as the very last in that year to experience in such a special place, and all due to that guy's seemingly random idea. As a final note, whether it was the mountain air from that altitude, its cleanliness, the ozone in it, you name it - my personal experience was that the next day I woke up before six o'clock in the morning feeling so full of energy that I kept having the distinct idea that I was floating one meter above the bed in the air!! Why precisely one meter? No idea whatsoever, haha! And every time I opened my eyes I was in my bed of course, but when I closed them I felt like floating again. 😂 It was a marvellous feeling, that much I can tell, and one I haven't experienced like this ever since. @@MrGiant I don't know about cool... more like freezing maybe. 😅 I had a work mate who told us how he went for a stroll in the mountains with some other friends - about ten people in total. They were all in t-shirts, shorts and sneakers. Mind you, it was supposed to be just a light walk before lunch. Well, a sudden blizzard hit them. They lost their way, as the visibility had fallen to zero in no time. They had the incredible luck to bump into one of those mountain shelters, where they stayed for two days, with only water from melted snow (they found a bucket there and firewood) and a bag of powdered milk one of the girls had bought from town to put in their coffee I think. After two days and two nights the blizzard finally relented and two of the guys ventured out to try to find the way back. As luck would have it, they found not far a sheephold. The shepherd took them, fed them all (it's the mountain law you know) and then saw them back to town when the way became practicable enough. So about cool weather changes... Not so cool unless you know very well your whereabouts and you're well equipped! 😅
Actually the blood drinking comes from Hungarians, there was also a Hungarian duces that liked to kill virgins and bath in the blood. Vlad was raised by ottomans so from there he had the impaling and he did it to nobles that would like to kill him or betray him, and the impaling make them scared. There is on Netflix a series that depicts Vlad time with the ottomans. Romania was 60t y ago a sea, so that’s why we have so many riches and mountains, rivers etc we have lots of caves, we have huge underground salt cave, you can go there and have fun for 3 h, is good for kids with asthma. Also we still have a healthy ecosystem because we didn’t kill the Wolfes and bears. We still have lots of arias that are not touched by humans.
That lake is a reservation the name is Sant Ana its also toxic its almost no life in it that is because its in a the crater of the volncanic mountain. For the One that don't understand I repeat it is a sleeping volcano and in the pick of it a lack form so that's why is dangerous and you shouldn't swim in it. Also what you see around aren't mountains is just the crater rim you also can go to a dead tree reservation near and you can see carnivor plans there living in the wild
It's not as green at it used to be because big wood cooperations just cut off you can see like half a mountain cut off, that's also the reason you can see so many beers because there home was cut off 😢😢😢
If you see a bear dont exit car for photos....specialy if you see a mom with babys because is verry easy to make her become violent ...people should understand that Tranfagaran is not a zoo ...is wild ...and in wild, bear( if hungry) see you like his lunch ...or a mother bear see you like a danger for the babys .... It maybe beautiful to see bears but what ppl don' t realise is not a good think because that means that they have no food in the forest and because they cut the forest they remaine without home. When i was a kid it was rare , rare to see a bear , now they are on the side of the road they have no food that' s why they come, they know ppl will fead them , that is not good. The bears should be in the forest ❤
They don't come to the road because they can't find food in the forest, but because getting free food from humans is easier. They are not stupid animals. Why should they bother to hunt when stupid people come and bring them free food? Tourists are the only ones to blame here.

About your comment about teens and youngs to study in other conturies.......actually we have this in EU,it is the Erasmus program,made exactly with this purpose,for youngs from different EU conturies to study together and know other conturies,learn languages and make friends. You would be amazed how many couples met during their study on Erasmus.
