Even funnier is how he said you were just a variable mixed with other variables. Just one courier to many others, Mr House is a straight up businessman and visionary. Only progress interests him, how we get there is up to us lol. As long as we don't break our contract.
@@noahhamel6689 and yet, I don't see what is stopping House from changing the deal to be higher for Courier once Courier is alone with House, I mean its not like the Great Khans or the Omertas are going to barge on in and yonk the chip from House's penthouse. tl;dr: House could have increased your reward while you were Alone with Him, no one but you and House would know. And from the Families perspective, you probably hit the Jackpot at the Lucky 38. Edit: I remembered you can't enter the Lucky 38. Even still, Courier isn't going to openly tell everyone he hit the Jackpot. And even then, the Chip would have been in safe hands by the time Courier even gets the chance to reveals the importance of the Chip.
Fun fact, if you just ask him to jump straight into business he'll comment on how refreshing that is. Great character writing that distinguishes this game from every other RPG.
he's just as impressed when you go to him with the chip rather than meeting him first, another thing I like about him is that he admits when he makes a mistake but jumps straight back up, from what I've see so far with the other factions (yeah I'm late to the game XD), they don't seem to do that, they just like to gloat their success among other things

5:40 When I first played Vegas and Mr House said this to me, I was flattered, made me like him more. Now I’m realizing that that was probably why he said it. He was buttering me up so I’d make him a good errand boy. He even doubles down when you point out the “VIP” treatment. Really fits with his Businessman/Entrepreneur personality.
House is a great example of a businessman who can talk his way into the right situations. He's calculating and knows how to manipulate the people around him, which manipulating the Courier is piss-easy so long as you got caps and guns to spare.

Everyone in wasteland tries to manipulate each other, the only difference between House and Legion/NCR is that he doesn't cosplay Rome, can't die, and doesn't tolerates shit like NCR does because some guys back at Hub gain profit from it. House is combination of strong sides of both, being humanity of NCR (business stuff, trying his best at diplomacy) and strong force of Legion (let Securitrons just fucking murder every crazy thug/raider, being a sole authority with Courier as helping hand). House is essentially immortal Tandi lol. A genius one even so.

Literally the only faction leader who has humanities best interest at heart. Is he cold-blooded? Sure. But unlike the NCR he doesn't get into bullshit politics and wants to reestablish civilization and eventually get us to space.
Yeah but I don't know how to feel about BoS. I mean, if you don't go out of your way to make a treaty, they are enemies with the NCR, the supposed good guys. I guess House is right about them as well.

The Caps he pays should have been a lot more. I could easily get 1,000 caps by helping out the King, or looting a BOS Member for their Power Armor. If House offered like maybe... 20,000 caps (basing it off the Dark Brotherhood reward in Skyrim) it would be a bigger incentive for Players to do the Mr. House route in the game, and it isn't too game-breaking since you could still easily waste that money on a single set of Power Armor.
i don't think power armor in NV cost more than 10,000 caps, most of the power armor i buy from the BOS is in low condition and worth around 500 caps. you can fix the power armor with ease by buying some metal armor with the jury rig perk at high repair skill and fix the power armor at full condition.
but so much so early? it'd really ruin the economy for new players, 2,000 I can see but 20,000 is waaaaaaay too much. Caps have only been an issue for my first playthrough and had trouble even entering the strip. Done 5 or so now and have never had an issue, always had heaps of caps that I never use. There are so many other ways to make money, repairing gear is stupidly profitable, and robbing the casinos with high luck on blackjack makes you a rich courier for the rest of your run. Shit even selling all the gear you don't or can't use gives you insane amounts of money mid to late game. And I never invest in barter, which gives you even MORE money. FNV economy is pretty easy to exploit without a free 20,000 caps from house
The reason he doesn’t pay you that much is he already paid a ton for the chip originally and he’s trying to avoid attracting attention. He could have easily spared 20k chips and securitrons to bodyguard you in the first place but he wanted secrecy. His plan backfired because he put faith in Benny who was also ambitious and much more short-sighted. He’s offering you real power, potentially immortality. The way the NCR wouldn’t dare and Caesar would never let you despite you being their best hopes for success. House is gambling on your success to make his plans possible and is smart enough to incentivize it in other ways. Still my courier answers to no higher power.
Missed this interaction because I've decided to go shit faced and gamble everything until I met Benny. Then House scholded me for not consulting with him beforehand, and the rest of the playthrough was was him just ordering me around. Interesting how the impression of House changes before meeting him first
Always liked House but I've sided with him more over time. I mean, in the real world, in a normal situation, he would be the insane choice. But in this world, he is the best choice available; he offers the stability of Caesar without the totalitarian control. The only problem is, naturally, what happens if he dies--if he's too successful and everyone depends on him to run everything, well, everything will fall apart when he dies. However, still, even if only manages to run things for a century, I believe he would indeed create an oasis of peace and progress in the middle of the desert, that would ultimately contribute to humanity. Meanwhile, the Legion will devour itself and the NCR will collapse and the BoS will almost certainly cease to be (I don't care what Bethesda says).
They're killing machines with the ability to self-repair, bombard large areas with rocket launchers and grenade launchers. And if the enemy is too close for doing such a thing, they'll be using 9mm machine pistols and RCW Laser Rifles. The issue is with the fact that Mr House's robots are not updated with the firmware necessary to run their equipment, so they are glitchy and restricted. This is what the quest House gives you is about...
