This scenario makes sense, House is a pragmatic fellow, if he doesn't have the means to fully control the Mojave he'll just side with the faction most beneficial to him. I think if this were to happen, his plan of sending colony ships to space would eventually happen, just take a longer time. He'll slowly build up his assets within the NCR and continue along, its not ideal since he'll be under taxes, but it's better than death.
House would not lmfao its why he wants the platinum chip in the first place to secure his hold on Vegas. We get it you guys love the NCR, keep bootlicking that golden branch for pretty much securing the entirety of vegas
The game definitely would have benifited from keeping this plotline. The first time I ever sided with the NCR I destroyed houses army and expected this exact outcome. I was disappointed when i found out I just had to kill him.
And yet, if you side with him, you have to kill Kimball, right? That's likely to destabilize the entire NCR and cause a lot of suffering & turmoil for a lot of people. We can argue over which choice is worse, but both choices are bad.
If this was an option, I think that some kind of high skill checks would have to be made in order to get it. It is basically a fusion of two endings, and could have major consequences. Having to get Mr. House get over his (rightful) anger and get a cooler head would take some work. Not as hard as Lanius' dialouge checks though. I'm thinking it could be separate Speech/Barter dialouge paths because those skills are the most likely to succeed in convincing him to join up in multiple different arguments. Barter for a more economically based argument, Speech for a more political controlling viewpoint. Maybe Science dialouge branch if you wanted to incorporate the OSI as a potential scientific resource that House couldn't get otherwise.
I don't think this would be good, particularly since this decision point is a potentially major turning point against the NCR, much like the Brotherhood is a potential major turning point against House, and House's death a requirement for Independent.
It needs a secondary element. Someone from the NCR putting pressure on House to fold who coordinates the destruction of the Securitrons with some sort of offered deal, or a big speech check to convince House, or both. Just destroying the securitrons might make sense from a purely practical perspective for House's character - he doesn't seem super "do or die" with his attempt at maintaing control over New Vegas, and is more of an opportunist - but the player can choose to destroy the Securitron army for either the Legion or the NCR, and if you do it for the Legion but it ends up benefiting the NCR it feels to the player like they made a "bad" choice. So in a gameplay player reactivity sense, that choice can't benefit the NCR if you're doing it for the Legion by itself. It would have to be paired with other choices which indicate the player is siding with the NCR specifically.
House seems to have done very well for himself in the pre-war US: a big fish in a very very big pond. If he’s in the NCR, then he’s a big fish in a medium pond. Give him a few electoral cycles, and he’d be pulling the strings.
Dont worry, Mr. House will probably do what he likely did centuries ago: Exploit the broken nature of the tax code and pay $1 for billions of dollars in income a year!
He'll find a way around it, or to minimize it with a tax shelter somehow. Plus, the contract says *Vegas will be annexed in 1 year * House is pardoned for all crimes before annexation Therefore, if the NCR agrees, then they have already agreed to pardon him for anything he does for the next year, and then give him the full legal protection of a citizen. Imagine what he can accomplish in a year with a "get it of jail free" card in his pocket.
@@rahisevakusipaa3460 I think it was cut because it was an easy choice. It's the best of both options: a tech genius to return humanity to prosperity, and a democracy to bring stability to the expansive wasteland and handle the tedium of day to day life. People are still debating what the "best" or most good ending is. Having an option where both of the "good" factions work together is an obvious choice. Instead, they forced us to make a difficult decision between two factions that both want to build a better future.
House is arguably the most important character in the fallout lore, as he was one of the main reasons the EUA was able to get so advanced before the war, and many of his inventions literally shaped what we know as the fallout...
@@Mcsnickers_7 eh ceaser is a perfect example of ends justifying means . He’s trying to completely rebuild a civilization off of old traditions and books he read . Not saying him having slaves is right , but the Roman Empire wouldn’t have been what it was without slaves , and the horribly atrocities they committed , that goes for any great civilization. The fiends are the only objectively evil characters in NV
@DEAD Nah the Legion is dead end parody of Rome, even at its worst. If you're familiar with the writings that Ceaser alludes to its actually clear he either hasn't actually read them or doesn't understand them if he did. Rome had much more complex diplomacy with its frontiers and didn't just straight up massacre everybody if they could help it, even Germanic tribes became Auxillia or clients, not to mention holding all women as basically sex slaves is a huge loss of potential manpower apart from being a disgusting practice, even Roman slaves often had a quality of life far above pure chattle slavery like the legions kind. Apart from the moral degeneracy of the Legion it's clear its basically a glorified barbarian tribe with no real sustainability and afaik canonically collapses after Ceasar dies.
@@finnmurray56 by the point we are at in New Vegas the NCR is stretching a bit thin cause of the unrest in Mexico and sending troops to other fronts etc
House is a businessman, not a "do-or-die"kind of guy. He would've found a way to continue his aspirations of space colonization from within the NCR, maybe even benefit from government funding the way SpaceX does today.
House would never willingly allow the NCR to control new vegas. He's the sole proprietor after all; it's why no matter what you do he will push the NCR away from the dam
@@__Theta__ How would he push the NCR away from the dam and hold on to the Strip at the same time if the protectron army under Fortification Hill is destroyed? 1/3 of the house questline is just you powering and activating the army, without it he doesn't have enough protectrons to hold off NCR or the Legion. The whole idea of the cut ending is that he has to roll with the punches and make concessions to NCR after the protectron army is destroyed, which he likely would have being a pragmatic businessman.
@@adamc2378 had to fix my original comment as I confused one of the independent endings. Realistically without the courier the NCR wouldn't be able to hold New Vegas or even convince house to join up with them without Courier intervention. The Legion has a pretty strong chance just because of all the internal chaos they have at there disposal (khans omertas fiends powder gangers) all which have a sour history with the NCR. Sorry pal but without the Courier House would never side with the NCR unless forced.
I think elon Musk and house would make a great Team despite there differences they seem to a lot a like in the goals they have... But i would say while house is ideal of an immortal corporate leader. elon is just good at self promotion and manipulation. Elon himself is basically a high end Con man... He says hes on the spectrum but he plays people like real genius... House is in a fictional world so would never need to use such tactics to fool people.
IIRC this was cut because the devs didn’t think it matched House’s personality, which I think tracks. However, I think that a (very) high speech or barter check should unlock this possibility: talk House down from his ego/emotions and think rationally, and from his now much weaker position, this is his best option
Had the NCR questline forced the Courier to deal with the Brotherhood at the same time as House, that could've also been a deciding factor as to whether or not he joins the NCR. I have two ideas for how it'd play out, the latter assuming McNamara is still Elder: 1) House only joins the NCR if Hidden Valley is destroyed since he sees the Brotherhood as his greatest threat. 2) The Mojave Brotherhood agreeing to support the NCR convinces House to do the same. Since House's greatest threat is now allied with the nation that makes up the bulk of his business, he joins said nation to avoid becoming an enemy of it.
I think it makes sense. Like your whole army that you needed to be free just got blown up and with the NCR getting stronger and with them projected to win Hoover damn, thanks to the couriers action. It would be insane not to give in. House is smart though so he would just accept and try to do his ambitions within the ncr
I mean, convincing House to settle with the NCR makes a lot more sense than talking down Lanius from fighting, a guy who would prefer death over running from a fight.
It would be cool if it was something like multiple different 100 skill checks. You’d basically have to convince him on every possible front that this would be his best option.
On one hand he'd probably have too much pride to do that, on the other hand tho, it is indeed in his main interests. After his army is destroyed he can't do much by himself, so it's either that or he loses ALL power over Vegas and gets killed
It does make a ton of sense though. Mr house doesnt give a shit about the various towns and hamlets around the Mojave. all he wants is new vegas, which is precisely what he would have if he aligned with the NCR.
@@boarfaceswinejaw4516 nah he does need the areas around New Vegas like Freeside, Westside and basically all out outer vegas. The Strip isn't nearly big enough for his plans to revive the industrial sector. Outer Vegas is littered with abandoned factories.
@@genericwhitemale9566 possibly, but we've see he has done very little work in actually integrating the outer parts of new vegas. honestly, the fact that the only entrance to new vegas is through either freeside, a bombed out anarchistic shithole, or the mcarran monorail is a bit of a brainfart in terms of writing now that i think about it.
@@boarfaceswinejaw4516 to be fair, he can't really integrate outer vegas BEFORE Hoover Dam because he has The NCR breathing down his neck. If he were to win he'd likely begin integrating Freeside, Westside and Outer Vegas as a whole into the Strip. I could see him renovating the area and turning New Vegas from just the strip to the entirety of modern day vegas. Considering that modern vegas has a population of over 641K (and the fact that Fallout's Las Vegas was probably bigger and more populous considering we're about 54 years away from 2077) it's safe to say that it would be enough for House's ambitions and if it isn't he has the rest of the Mojave to develop if needed.
@@genericwhitemale9566 sounds overly optimistic tbh. House's control over the strip is itself pretty tenuous even before the NCR came along. honestly, as much as i'd like to discuss this the more i ponder this stuff the more i realize how kind of poorly or at least underwritten this whole affair is. there are no entrances to the strip beyond freeside or camp mcarran, we dont see how much power house actually has outside of a few guard robots and the fact that he owns like, one casino (empty) and a hotel.... and there is no sense of like, loyalty or even alignment with house by the powers or figures living in freeside either, making the idea of him expanding (outside of him straight up purging and bulldozing freeside with his robot army) very unrealistic.
The game was released 12 years ago, and still continues to amaze. New Vegas deserves a full remake with the restoration of cut content more than anyone else.
@@halkeye20 No reason they can't reuse dialogue for the most part. A Remastered NV would mostly have restored content as opposed to anything new probably.
Name one remake that restored anything removed from original. I can. Destroy All Humans one mission where you destroy Area 51's UFO. Nice naive wishing there.
I hate to choose between them. Let House run New Vegas as his own little kingdom and let NCR manage the rest of the Mojave. I truly believe that House could deliver his promise to revive the tech industry. My complaint with him is that he is a singular entity with no real plans for the continuation of his empire after he's gone.
To be fair, Mr. House is such a science abomination he might be genuinely undying at this point unless outright killed. That's a big "might" but yeah, always have trouble siding against House myself. He's just such a rare trifecta of smart, ruthless and sane for the franchise that you genuinely believe he could fix the world if given enough time & resources.
@@LORDOFDORKNESS42 And besides the Independent ending, House offers the best ending for the Courier. Being the right-hand man of the most powerful man in the Mojabe sure beats any medal or coin the NCR and Legion can offer.
@@whoareyoutoaccuseme6588 Well, in fairness, ive heard the Romans in the past would mint the face of the next emperor on a coin to get people use to them. This means Ceasar has the courier set up to be his next in line, and that's a pretty decent ending for the Courier
@@whoareyoutoaccuseme6588 Same, and I feel it makes the most sense as well since the Courier saved his life and essentially becomes his right hand man, becoming the whole reason he gets the dam. Only feels right that he's the one who successes him.
This would have been so damn nice as part of the main questline as I liked House to some extent plus having him as part of the NCR PLUS getting the NCR and the Mojave BoS to ally would make the NCR literally unstoppable.
It makes sense. With the Securitron force limited to the police garrison, House would have to pull back on his ambitions. Even the upgrades wouldn't be enough with the comparatively limited numbers involved.
I wish this wasn't cut because Mr. House is one of my favorite character, and I hate having to kill him to achieve every ending but his own. Maybe some of our brilliant modders can gather what's left of this cut ending and piece together a mod out of it. There's already a Brotherhood-House alliance mod (more like a truce, actually), so why not an NCR-House one?
I wonder if the modders added it back in Tale of Two Wastelands? They restored a lot of cut content. I'm on my first TTW playthrough so maybe I'll find out.
@@ryane3703 To be fair, Mr. House still doesn't like them even with the alliance mod. It's more of the Courier reassuring Mr. House (With a High Speech check and Brotherhood rep) that they know the Brotherhood well enough to know that they are not a threat, and if they try anything, he/she will deal with them. At this Mr. House reluctantly agrees.
I never liked how the NCR felt towards the strip even though it’s damn near the most beautiful thing in the fallout universe, untouched my the warheads and they wanna start a war over it….
I imagine Mr House has underlying plans with this scenario. I can see him deciding to scale back his operations and by giving the strip to the NCR he can focus entirely on colonizing space
Technically, in the contract, House would still own the casinos and businesses on the Strip. The NCR would just be the only police force, instead of the Securitrons.
In order to get this you had to enter his chamber and then he would tell you to turn around and leave, agreeing to all your conditions. I wouldn’t call that a voluntary decision though, it’s more like a semi-conditional surrender since he would never join the NCR.
“Immunity from persecution for any activities prior to annexation” Basically that means, The Courier is not in the right to kill me for any reason or take my property for himself since he knew what The Courier could do or had done at that point. A decision out of fear. Similar to the bad karma ending but in reverse order.
Mr House has waited hundreds of years, he’s probably even more powerful being a part of the NCR, over the course of a few decades he could democratically seize control of California and the Mojave.
As someone who always sides with the NCR, but hates having to kill Mr House, I wouldve been very happy with this ending if it made it to the final game
Maybe they were worried it would undermind the feeling of the player having to pick a side. They may not have gotten a chance to properly playtest what this outcome is like. Maybe instead the issue was figuring out how it effects the late game. That said, if they ever remake New Vegas, I'd be down for this coming back.
It's not, same as a ton of other things in the game. The 18 month contract was one of a couple options, more time WAS offered, but Obsidian didn't take it because the higher ups of the company are morons.
I fit with his character. He wouldn't be happy about it but if it's the only option that allows him to keep his goal of advancing humankind he would take it. Under the NCR's banner it would take more time but it's still better than dying and having all his hardwork be for nothing.
I wish this was in the game. It'd allow for another run where Mr House isn't killed, while in the final, if you're not doing a house run, you're forced to kill him
I imagine Mr. House would become one of if not the biggest businessman in New World America. NCR would benefit greatly, but have someone who almost acts completely independent from the NCR. His advancements and high intelligence could make the NCR into an almost unstoppable force. I can even see one day where convoy's are guarded by some humans, but some high-end robots.
I really would have liked to see this option in the final game however I would have liked it to maybe be a side quest that you can take before the main quest. Where rather then destroying the bots you go on a quest to gather support for a meeting between house and the NCR where they convince him to become governor of Vegas in exchange he retains legal control but the NCR has taxation rights and can request support from the legion of bots. That way in the Hoover dam battle you can charge the dam with every faction against the legion at one time. I also would have liked to see an expansion of talks between the boomers and the NCR. As the NCR moved their direction and the increase in mobile warfare reaches their door. It would have been cool to be a negotiator in eventually being the boomers into the fold and turning them into the NCAF.
My god NCR airships based on the Prydwen with VB-01 gunships 🤩 have the courier slow roll Big MT, sierra madre vending machine and hologram tech into mojave 🤩
Based on episode 8 credits of TV show (Spoilers ahead), I truly believe that this is canon ending. House is very pragmatic, so it wouldn't be surprising if he was plotting to return power over strip to himself after some time. Destruction of Shady Sands and weakening of the NCR, would be a nice time to strike, hence what we see in the outro could be the result of fighting between House and NCR over Strip. Wouldn’t be the first time, where unobtainable ending was the canon one (referring to Followers of the Apocalypse good ending being canon in Fallout 1, despite being unobtainable).
Would've been cool if they'd kept it in, but if it was only conditionally accessible (e.g. a very high Speech and/or Barter check, or completing certain side quests to convince House that he can't win) - if you haven't got your ducks in a row, you have to kill him to continue the NCR (or Independent) quest line.
I always thought it was weird that House didn't do this in the game, as it totally fits his character. He plays the long game, and joining the NCR buys him time to formulate a new plan after the courier ruined his initial one.
Or possibly the Courier reshaped his plans, convincing him that his Securitrons were a bad bet and that he'd be better off trying to win the presidency of the NCR while profiting from NCR tourists.
@@reillywalker195 That might be what he's planning to do with the annexation note. He makes a pretty big deal about becoming a legal, ordinary citizen, so it might be something to ensure he is a valid candidate for presidency
It would be interesting since I imagine house would turn his attention towards using his money to gain power within the NCR, could even base some quests off of that.
This is so much smarter for House to do than what he tries in the game, where he's an overly trusting and reckless idiot. I imagine this ending was cut because it's such an overwhelmingly good ending in comparison to all the others, and Obsidian wanted the best choice to be more ambiguous.
I can see this being probable simple because he’d lose his ace in the hole. House would have to fold, and temporarily submit to NCR rule. Although it wouldn’t surprise me if he’d scheme a way to become president, then a technocrat of the NCR
I would have really liked to see this included. To get the endings that feel right to me I unfortunately have to kill Mr. House each time. About the time he requires me to destroy the Brotherhood is when I usually jump ship. (That referencing another piece of cut content that would have increased Mr. House's longevity in my playthroughs)
It'd have been interesting if you could convince House and the Legion to spare the Brotherhood but only with Hardin as Elder. That'd make sense from a tactical standpoint since Hardin is far more inclined than McNamara to attack the NCR, and from a long-term view since he's even more of a traditionalist than McNamara and likely to drive his chapter to extinction.
I just got that note in my current playthrough after I destroyed his army and didn't know what the fuck was happening haha never saw in in my many playthroughs. Turned out to be re-added cut content from a mod I had... And when you get to the "take out Mr House" NCR quest you can ask Colonel Moore about the annexation offer he made and she will basically say "fuck that, get rid of him"
If he were elected, though, he could take the opportunity to make himself into the autocrat he wanted to be. Since he's immortal or nearly so, he'd have a long time to worry about succession.
I think it is a win-win for both factions, Mr. House may not be a king of vegas, but enjoy being like Howard Hughes in our time line enjoying government contracts and the NCR benefiting with new tech for commercial and military
Its disappointing that in the actual game the only ending where mr house isnt killed or left to rot in his basement is the one where you side with him, cut content like this puts to mind an interesting middle ground ending where house still gets to plot the rebirth of humanity while being beholden to the laws and occupation of the NCR
The Omertas talkin like they can kill Mister House, yeah sure you made some commotion in the Strip, and then you miserably failed to please Caesar by losing to a few police securitron running on Windows 95
Hopefully, if New Vegas gets a sequel, they merge House and NCR endings into one makin' this scenario canon. After all, previous games already set the precedent with glitched/cut outcomes from FO1-2 staying canon.
@@Twelfth512 I just caught an interesting detail, maybe a loophole. He demands immunity for all crimes committed before annexation, but annexation is one year away. Hence, he can commit any crimes he wants for the next year and will be automatically pardoned for them. They're agreeing today to pardon him for anything he does tomorrow. Clever clever.
@@cymond so ncr wont do anything if he decides to forcibly drive out the Freeside residents. The possibilities are endless for our favorite corporate *ghoul.
honestly I would have loved to see this in game, House was banking a lot on Courier 6 staying alive and bringing him the chip. It never sat well with me that if you choose to just say "no" he doesn't have any recourse either than to have his Securitrons shoot you on sight. House always seemed like the kind of guy to have backups on top of backups, dude would 100% have had backups in-case you decide to turncoat.
While it's clear that no faction grants stability and prosperity for everyone who wants it a semi-autonomous Strip in NCR territory (à la Macao) would definitely offer more of that in the short-term to the most people. As for the long-term it'd probably just push the ball down the road in regards to the NCR properly controlling the region, and the subsequent problems that would bring. Still, it'd be interesting to think about.
I'm glad this was cut, because it makes no sense for him to join them. He always wanted an independent vegas and has an army that could easily topple the legion and ncr in the region and repple all attacks after as well.
Even if Obsidian had more development time, I highly doubt this scenario would have happened in the final games. Based on what we have seen, I cannot imagine House selling out to the NCR, he would rather die.
They did have more time, which is funny, because they even option say they were offered more time but people at the top said no. Bethesda gets the blame for it anyway, because ya know, gotta ride the "Obsidian = God" line because "Bethesda = bad"
A better, more accurate ending for House would be to deal with the NCR, but only for his own personal gain. He would slowly coerce the NCR into doing whatever he desires, and get the taxes money himself in the name of "progress", to support his space plans. The NCR would turn into a muppet state, and House their Big Brother.
Considering Vegas will be a popular tourist spot for NCR most influential people, i'd say give him a decade and House might as well run for office. And when you take into account that there is no term limit, he could be immortal supreme leader.
I don't see House sullying his hands with presidency. He'd probably be more akin to Tamany Hall, a political machine running in the background. House himself would never participate in government, but every politician and interest group will be influenced by him.
You missed Cassandra Moore telling the Courier to go kill House anyway as part of the NCR Questline. Courier: "I thought Mr. House already agreed to hand over New Vegas to the NCR." Moore: "Yes, that's what he wants us to believe. And when we turn our attention to other threats, he'll begin moving against us. No, far safer to simply eliminate him and the risk he represents now. Besides, with him gone, New Vegas will truly be ours once the dust settles." It's not like he wanted to work for the NCR, the Courier just destroyed his army and irrevocably ruined his plan. He didn't have the strength to stand up to their army and the Legion. He'll definitely try to kill the Courier if they return to the Lucky 38; he says as much if you talk to him after blowing up the bunker. There's no cut ending where House and the NCR work together, sorry.
I really hate that woman. From how she fires Crooker, undermines your efforts, and even gets promoted over the other colonel in the cut content, she's just so darn despicable.
It should be added in a remake, it makes literally 0 sense that you would be forced to kill House in an NCR ending. If you can get the BOS to make peace, you should 100% be able to negotiate with House for peace.
It would have to have been something actually dramatic enough to force his hand, like his ghoul brother is still alive in California, and he has the opportunity to double down and take over the NCR or something.
That'd be a heck of a plot twist. Perhaps Robert would use the wealth from his casinos to fund a presidential campaign for Anthony, leading to the NCR getting its first ghoul president and its two most powerful people being practically immortal.
I think it was actually good this was cut. It makes sense for house to use diplomacy once they were betrayed by the courier but this makes house much less cool and also tips the scales in the dilemma of picking a faction.
I feel like there would have needed to be a second condition to this for it to make sense, like a speech check with House or some sort of coordination with someone from the NCR or both for this to work, because I don't think House would just fold like that if the securitron army were destroyed. That's probably where they ran out of time to finish the implementation of this, whatever that 2nd element was.
People are saying this makes sense but I don't think it really does. House previous predicament doesn't change if you blow up his deactivated securitrons, it would be more likely he just runs the strip like beforeand scraps his pans to take over the Mojave for now.
Mr house mentions himself that if it wasn't for the war between the Legion and NCR. He would not be powerful enough to hold the strip. The NCR or The legion are much more powerful than his army but they can't spare the troops take the strip just yet as they are locked in stalemate
It does not make sense for many reasons.. One being the plot twist in this storyline where the NCR basically says "Yeah,he gave up..Now kill em." Which makes twisting his arm pointless. Which in order to get this out come you need to blow up his army in the bunker. So, It is less a alliance and more a "Shut up and take It" ordeal. Which considering House weighting his choice at that time would basically go "Yeah, I would rather die." Even then, With the NCR running everything and the deal laid out. Mr. House will be tax so hard he aint going to space or making progress on his plans. He is basically a glorified name to keep the 4 families in check and nothing more. He is basically sitting watching as vegas will be turned into what he feared above all things...A government hang out.
Based on credits of TV show it could be possible that cut NCR and House alliance ending is cannon. House is very pragmatic, so it wouldn't be surprising if he was plotting to return power over strip to himself after some time. Destruction of Shady Sands and weakening of the NCR, would be a nice time to strike, hence what we see in the outro could be the result of fighting between House and NCR over Strip. Wouldn’t be the first time, where unobtainable ending was the canon one (referring to Followers of the Apocalypse good ending being canon in Fallout 1, despite being unobtainable).
how i would have added this in: step 1: either courier blows up the securitron army or theres a timed event where one faction breaches the place sans the chip and claims or blows up the army anyway if the courier dosent get there first. step 2: high bluff check to convince house it wasnt your fault- check is even higher if courier is directly responsible step 3: high speech check or high barter check to convince him that siding with the ncr is the best backup plan here.
I think step 3 is the most important. House is very patient, and very practical. If he thinks the NCR's resources will be a boon to him, he will go for it.
I always thought it was really strange that this _wasn't_ a possibility, house joining with the ncr seems like something that would make a lot of sense in the right situation.
That really should have been kept. Its one of the best potential endings. Especially if they didnt cut the option to convince House to leave tbe BoS alone.
Guys imagine if Fallout New Vegas was given the needed time and maybe even a higher budget to make it. If it had those things New Vegas would literally become the greatest game of all time, probably with no chance of competition either.
