Mr Inbetween Season 3 Episodes 1 & 2 || First Time Watching Reaction

Episode 1: Coulda Shoulda
A simple exchange goes awry when greed gets in the way, with Ray having to make a deadly decision; Ray embarrasses Brittany at school.
Episode 2: Champ
Ray's friends work to get his charges dropped; Brittany sees through Ray's lies as he tries to explain away his prison time.
"Mr Inbetween" is a half-hour comedy series inspired by the cult film "The Magician" and centers around Ray Shoesmith. Juggling a relationship, parental responsibilities, friendships and a sick brother while earning a living would be difficult for anyone, but it's particularly difficult for Ray since he's a criminal for hire. Ray "takes care of people" -- collecting debts, relieving them of drugs and guns, and often taking care of them on a more permanent basis. Ray demands respect and does not tolerate it when someone disregards his very clear code of ethics.
Directed by Nash Edgerton
Starring: Scott Ryan, Damon Herriman, Brooke Satchwell and Justin Rosniak

I couldn't wait for you to see season3 ep 1. One of my favorites, that and the series finale. The gun battle was so well done. A couple of things. Did you notice that they were all vested up? I loved the realism. Notice how Ray and his guys were all going for the jugular? All shoulder and neck shots. At the end of the gun fight, Ray's humanity screams so silently here, and I think he had much respect for Graham, who was making his peace at the end. It went both ways. That end was what separates this show from all the others, very underrated. I can't stop watching.

Dave is Matt Nable who has a great acting range. He was also a rugby league player. Stars in a great movie called”The Final Winter” which addresses the changing culture of the working man’s sport into big business and how he has to cope with aging and loss of his ‘identity’ - also lot of deep social commentary on how the game changed from a working class sport into big business. Matty Johns also is in it.

Thanks for the heads up on ''The Final Winter" and have just placed an order for the DVD on eBay. I was born in 1946 at Ashfield, the home of the Western Suburbs Magpies but later moved to a home my father, a bricklayer built at Regents Park in 1948 which as luck would have it is a quick train or bus ride to Lidcombe Oval, the home ground of the Maggies where I watched many a game in the 1950's and 60's. I lost my enthusiasm when the WS were compelled to merge with the failing Balmain club which meant the loss of the black and white strip, magpie mascot and transfer to Campbelltown (WTF). Your synopsis of the movie seems to sum up my indifference to the game and these day hardly watch any of the games and tend to barrack for Parramatta, my mothers old team, and not the hybrid West Tigers. Cheers.

The Magician isn't a prequel. without spoiling anything, think of it as Ray Shoesmith in another timeline. The link is in the way Scott Ryan uses the character of Ray to explore the ethics of violence and it's place in our society. Like it or not, violence is a part of us. I like how Scott deals with that narratively.

OZ for its time was absolutely ground-breaking and I think set the scene for a lot of modern television. It has a truly stunning cast, lots of great Brit actor ;) There's a lot of it and there's more than one case of jumping the shark in there, but it's totally worthwhile - especially if you bare in mind *when* it came out and what followed. There's some absolutely golden stuff in there, Schillinger, Adebisi and Saiid amongst many others.

If this was a Hollywood show, Ray would have befriended then defended that wimpy guy in prison. Thankfully, this is an Aussie show and shows the more likely situation that you don't involve yourself in other people's business in prison. That was that guy's problem and nothing to do with Ray, it really is dog eat dog in that environment. I have seen Oz and it's a fantastic series, very brutal and not an easy watch at times. There is quite a bit of violence and also SA, so a lot of editing to meet RU-vid standards but it also has some amazing characters and writing and a great cast. Very recommended.

Oz is a very good show, but there are far too many episodes, and it's VERY bleak indeed. Have you done The Wire? OK so it's no frontier AFA reactions go, but your audience that liked this show, would like that one. If you're looking for another Aussie show I can highly recommend Rake, it's about a lawyer who takes on the cases nobody else will touch, so if you've ever wanted to see Hugo Weaving as a cannibal or Sam Neill as a guy who has sex with his dog, then this is the show for you.

Ray always respects people who aren't into being bad for kicks, or are just plain evil. The guy at the beginning said "it wasn't personal". Remember when the bomb blew up in the safe after Ray was taken by Dave and Bobby. Just before that happened Dave was walking away and said 'nothing personal Ray, just business'. Ray is the same, its just business and he's willing to give people a pass for respecting the game. It's fairly obvious to me that he also felt the fella he shot at the beginning could have been a decent bloke, he felt they were similar and could probably have got along well. Part of the reason why he just didn't feel good about that whole scenario after it ended.

The prison scene was actually filmed at Parramatta Gaol, which was closed down a some time ago, but still used for filming, and gas regular tours. As for the word "champ", it is more commonly used in Victoria, and means a kiddie fiddler through rhyming slang, champ sounding like tamper. For the show OZ, I would recommend the first several seasons, though the last few seasons became a bit ridiculous. The show however has a brilliant cast, with the likes of J.K. Simmons and Ernie Hudson.

Love these reactions, I've been checking everyday for the new episodes 😁 We should 100% finish with "The Magician". I reckon that'd be the cherry on top. Even if we don't, it'd be great to get your reaction on in.
