We are proud to present the 4K restoration of Joseph Losey’s MR. KLEIN, a political thriller which became a classic of doppelgänger paranoia genre, leading a kafkaesque reflection on identity.
Released in 1976, the films takes place in Nazi-occupied Paris where the immoral art dealer, Robert Klein, leads a life of luxury, until a copy of a Jewish newspaper brings him to the attention of the police, linking him with a mysterious doppelgänger. Will Mr. Klein clear his name?

Joe Losey was blacklisted in the US for being a leftie, so he moved to London and made films in Europe. The Servant (1963) is a masterpiece, it's haunted me ever since I saw it 25 years ago. Hollywood's loss was Europe's gain.

La scène où son avocat lui propose une somme ridicule pour lui racheter tout ce qu’il a amassé en profitant du malheur et de la persécution des Juifs. À l’expression de Delon quand il regarde l’avocat (le formidable Michael Lonsdale), il comprend qu’on lui fait ce qu’il a lui-même fait aux autres. Rien qu’à son regard, on comprend que Delon était un grand acteur. Il n’a même pas besoin de dire un mot.

Guess it's kinda the book end to his Melville Trilogy but those were perfectly anonymous characters that were perfect for Delon . Klein isn't Delon -really who can identify with him ? This role negates Delon it feels so abstract unreal even parodic and historically was nothing compared to the actual collaboration . After Melville he rarely found his metier his great Delon the outsider again .

Exactly the opposite, in my opinion, the whole movie is about to identify with someone who is persecuted and then realizing that we all are. He must be sorta Klein, sorta not, sorta Delon and again sorta not to let us feel he's nobody and everyone.

L'image d'origine de ce film était formidable. Avec la transformation 4K , l'image est horrible. Restaurer un film, ce n'est pas le transformer.

Je n’accroche pas à cet astuce marketing pour faire vendre des films (4K), j’aime quand il y a du grain. Cela dit vous avez raison, si la restauration n’est pas entre bonne main ça peut donner un produit final sans plus value. J’aime bien le montage nerveux de la BA, ça donne envi de revoir le film !

@@marcl2213mais personne ne vous force à acheter. Il y a des films pour qui une restauration est tout à fait justifiée. D'autres pour laquelle restaurer nécessite un travail plus délicat, en ce sens certaines restaurations sont réalisées avec l'assistance des artistes. Quoiqu'il en soit d'une manière ou d'une autre les nouvelles générations seront davantage portées à découvrir un film restauré avec une image nette.

Robert Klein was one of the biggest 70's-era comedians in the USA. I got turned onto him via his brilliant Rock'n'Roll hosted radio show, he brought in some of THE best talents of the era. He.even has a variety show pilot. Yes, this is a different RK. Some might say THE RK was overshadowed by the perpetually unhappy G Carlin and the SNL crowd, but no, not me.
