My MR2 kept dribbling all over the floor! the radiator was the cause and is a common fault where they corrode in the bottom left hand corner. I'd never had to change a radiator before and it was actually quite easy. Just take you time and work through it methodically. If you need any further help let me know in the comments and I'll assist where I can.

This video was really helpful and gave me the confidence to replace the radiator myself. Of note though I originally ordered a Japspeed alloy radiator which is slightly larger capacity than OEM but when I was trying to fit it I found that it was not made correctly and the mounts for the fan housing where in the wrong place. Having sent that one back I got a £35 standard one off e-bay and following your video I had no problem fitting and bleeding it. This has saved me loads so cheers :-)

You're welcome Tim. Glad it was of help. I bought an ebay special when I did the radiator as well. Thanks for your comment :)

Excellent - I have the 2005 Model too. Radiator has same problem at same side too. Got the radiator for £34.99 from Champion Radiators. Not confident I could pull this off myself as a DIY job, but good to see how it should go. Many Thanks

+Jamie Burgoyne it was the first time I'd ever changed the radiator. Take your time and you can do it....trust me...I did! If you are worried about air locks you could jack the rear of the car up slightly but you'll be fine.

Dad Diaries It's a great video. Thanks for getting back to me. I'm happy enough travelling to and from work on my bike so I could give it a go as I don't need the car on a daily basis. I've got the Red Edition. Great wee car with only 55K on the clock

i just bought a 2zz swapped 01 spyder . and the clamp holding the coolant hose that goes to the side of the block i guess didnt have the clamping strength anymore and the hose popped off in the middle of a canyon run.. kept popping off on the way home. i fixed the clamp with a different one and the hose hasnt come off since. HOWEVER , my car now likes to puke all of its coolant out after i drive her a lil hard ( go into lift a few times ) .... its fine just normal driving.. but once i open her up a few times and i come to a stop.. she starts puking out the coolant over flow reservoir. i think either my water pump went or my thermostat has taken a shit... ive bleed this damn thing like 3-4x after the hose has popped off..she just keeps puking. hoping to find the actual problem tmrw though when we take the thermostat out and run some pressurized water through the block and see if there are any clogs etc ( we did notice some grey sludgy stuff in the reservoir tank though... looks like some sort of seal fix ) ive only had this car for a week.. prev owner was a 18 yr old kid that knew NOTHING about the car .,.... didnt even know it had a 2zz in it...

Sorry to hear your troubles... sounds like the kid might have used radweld or something to plug a leak and gummed up the system

How did you drain the coolant out? Was it from the big pipe you can see at around 9:13?
@DadDiaries

Yep! Into in a big pan underneath.

ok, so your car is.. corroded.. does this happens only to MR2 ? or is this usuall for all vehicles on that area ?
@DadDiaries

+Edmundo Cunha all vehicles in the UK fight corrosion as soon as they are wheeled out of the factory. The people who had the mr2 before me didn't undertake preventative maintenance so I need to do a little more to look after it. The rear cross member is something to look out for specifically though as they rot from the inside out. If you live in a country or climate that inhibits rust then you'll likely be ok. Even in the uk the cross member on my mr2 is ok :)

+KatsushikaMatsumoto thanks I appreciate the feedback... corrosion is a way if car life in the UK. Plus the previous owner dud not take any care to prevent it. It now falls to me :)

Thanks for this. My used mr2 spyder did not come with those bleeding hoses. May I have the size so I can buy from store?
@DadDiaries
@DadDiaries 7 лет назад
+vinzanity68 Hi...thanks for watching. If you bought 3ft hoses that would be fine, 4ft would be plenty per hose. They are just to bring the water levels above the highest part of the system which is the filler bottle in the engine bay. :)

@@DadDiaries May I ask what is the diameter of the bleeding hose? Thanks.

I'm afraid I'm not too sure...standard aquarium hose will work. I'll ask some other owners and get back to you :)

@@DadDiaries No worries mate, job done, it turns out the normal garden hose would work for it, diameter approx 15mm. Cheers.
