I would agree with you. The Tech Support is slow to respond. It took me a month to get a replacement outdoor pcm board. The good thing is that this was fairly easy to replace, since all the wiring is plug and play. I recall only 2 wires underneath that you need to take note when you swap the new unit in, since these are just blade type connectors so you could cross wire them if you do not pay attention. Every other connection was different so no worries. Took about 20 minutes or so to remove and replace and my unit is working fine now. BTW, this was under warranty having been just about a year since purchased and installed by myself. so the board was totally free under warranty. I am running this off a 7200 kw solar generator to heat the living room and kitchen in my home which is probably about 550 sq ft. My unit is a 12k 120 watt system. Meanwhile, I also have a Cooper and hunter 9k unit in my bedroom and it is just over a year old and I am now getting a EL01 fault with it. Their support is no better, may be worse especially since I did install' this myself, I have the vacuum pump and everything but they won't warranty for DIYers. I can still replace the entire system for less than it would cost to hire a company to install these so F' C&H,. I'll replace this with the MR cool system. At least they do back their systems for the DIYer even if their support is slow
@bynumwoodworks8275 I purchased the 7200 watt Powerhouse system from Natures Generator with 4 solar panels, (2000 watts total), and 1000 watt windmill. The Inverter did fail on this after about 9 months so it had to be replaced which was covered under warranty. I am pretty satisfied with the system overall. My only disappointment is with the windmill which in hindsight is a waste of money since it requires a high wind to turn fast enough to generate the power required. I have since added an 8200 watt POWMR hybrid inverter which has failed after 3 months. I have done all the troubleshooting that is online and in the manual, as well as what tech support has requested and they keep asking me to do the same thing again. This is under warranty but I am still going back and forth with POWMR tech support. This is all done via email so there is apparently an issue with the translation when referring to the Utility/Grid connection. They are in China and there is a serious language barrier which is delaying this to my wits end. It has not worked since early December 2023.
As a follow-up to the video, I received a phonecall yesterday from tech support. The technician said that the would send a new outdoor compression unit. Once everything is running and good to go I will upload a followup to the video.
Checked for your follow up video and saw there isn't one. Did you ever get your system resolved? Also if you used the DIY with pre-charged lines then it will not have a full charge with out replacing all the lines as well which includes the 6 foot line in the air exchanger. Either that or you'd have to vacuum and recharge the system, I believe?
Same P4 errors in heat mode here a few days ago, just at the start of the second winter (60° days, 40° nights). 4th-gen 12,000BTU Mr. Cool Mini-Split in 420-sq.ft., well-insulated garage with insulated door. Even in our mild climate, it doesn’t get much below 64° in the garage shop when the heat’s off. Since installation last winter, the heat worked, but the Mr. Cool compressor startup and shutdown always has vibrated heavily and the housing and airflow cage rattled annoyingly. After firing up the heat late last week, the P4 errors were displayed on the indoor handler. I shut down and restarted it a couple of times. It emitted heat, but constantly shut down and would not run long. Fast forward…Curiously, no P4 errors for two days now, but it’s still not running long when turned on. So, I called a tech. Besides checking voltages (OK) and the refrigerant (a little high), we decided to troubleshoot this by turning off the Mr. Cool WiFi (in iPhone App) and went back to just using the Mr. Cool Remote. Technician wants to test if this P4 error could be a communications error/conflict. In online searches, I also noticed that other mini-split manufacturers are fielding P4 errors for their mini-split products. Could this all be related to Mr. Cool’s communications hardware or software? I also note that Apple just did a big upgrade to iOS 17…
I am so glad I am seeing all these bad reports. I plan on cooling my whole house with these. I guess I will be using the Seville units now. Sounds like lots of people have issues with this.
On a fair note. Since installing the last replacement, MrCool did cool my shop comfortably. I am waiting to get through the worst part of winter before posting an update since my problems started with heating.
senville not the answer, I have the same issues with senville 24,000 btu. First had p00 (pcm board went out) replaced it. Back to working great for 12 hours, then p4 error. Unit is only 4 months old. I should not be having any issues at all after only 4 months. senville has good custom support, but the products should not break after 4 months. I no longer trust the unit, so I am looking for another brand. Need 1 more and now another for a back up for this one.
Not a good condition or experience as that very unit is one I was considering for my shop. However, looks like I will continue shopping for alternative brands. Sorry that you are having this experience but thank you for sharing.
I was really hoping this would work out. This Process started right after New Years, They are sending me a complete replacement but in another week with will be two months without heat.
Nice work on the video, I too purchased a a 24K unit from HVAC DIrect at the end of May 2021. Installed in a two story 30 x 20 barn/garage that was insulated well with 2" spray foam in walls and 3" ceiling with 2 well insulated roll up doors. All summer left thermostat at 78 degrees during the week and 72 degrees on the weekends. Summer electric bills went up around $20 a month..... First Bills of winter through November/December were much the same as summer. Worked great until first week of -10 lows in early January, it quit working and throwing the P4 code. Have spoken to Mr. Cool once and will use your tests on your video to check the valves and the power on the panel in preparation for my next call from Mr. Cool. Hope to get this resolved soon to get back to work in warm air... will post updates here as well.
Hi Jim. My compressor is what went out on my first one . Not knowing the compressor was out they sent me a new heat pump and line set. Connected everything and all worked well for about 20 minutes then it started blowing cold air. Contacted tech support again and they had me get a refrigerant pressure check and we determined that when the pump went out it contaminated the refrigerant and the head unit had the contaminated refrigerant remaining after I changed out the hear pump and line set. They are sending me a complete replacement. If they send you a new heat pump I would suggest making sure the refrigerant is OK before running the unit. I have been without heat now since New years.
@@PapaRugby hi I have the same unit with identical P4 problem.Mine worked great for about 4 months. I bought mine from Amazon and registered it upon installation. Are the circuit boards available and does MRCOOL do the repairs I hope they don’t expect me to do it
@@Hodado Mr Cool doesn't have contracted service providers so the choice is to hire someone else to do the work or do it yourself. In the case of hiring an HVAC pro, be aware that if you don't have the part they need to install that they won't be able to get it either. Distributors they work with don't carry Mr. Cool parts. For this reason, many HVAC techs won't service them. Only Mr. Cool can ship the parts and most HVAC techs won't be able to charge for the time they spend playing phone tag so if they know anything about this make at all, it is to take a pass on servicing them.
I had the same error today (Feb 10, 2023). I called MRCOOL. They ask me if you could see any threads on my line-set (I could), so they told me to tighten them until I could not see any threads. I did that and started my MRCOOL unit. It started heating within 10 minutes. Apparently, when you heat, the lines are under more pressure, so they have to be tight.
IMHO, Mr. Cool either needs to include an HVAC-appropriate torque wrench OR they need to include a leak sniffer (soap method before the unit is in operation is insufficient!) OR they should throw in HVAC gasket sealant and as a matter of course recommend applying it as an added measure of protection, even if there are no apparent links upon initial testing. Refrigerant leaks at the threads are apparently common, and the cold only increases the contraction that is present when the units are operating, especially in very cold weather (as opposed to when the initial connections are made and the units are not in operation). Long story short, my unit has never worked from Day One. Failed to raise Mr. Cool by phone or email - because their techs are THAT BUSY handling other failed units - until I threatened a BBB complaint upon leaving my number requesting a callback. (Pretty much all anybody can expect in reaching out to customer service is their voicemail.) Take a look at the BBB profile. One star and 13 pages - about 10 entries apiece - worth of complaints. Either this company is selling rebranded Chinese junk "assembled" in the U.S.A. (sneaky way to be able to say "Made in America") or they had major quality control breakdowns during the pandemic. Either way, it's a lot of time and money out the window. My only saving grace is that instead of Amazon I bought it from Costco. Costco will take anything back at any time. I don't imagine they want an uninstalled mini split delivered to their return counter, but if necessary the next step will be calling Costco and requesting that they stop selling this product line unless or until they can offer it WITH an extended warranty that will cover service/labor costs. As it stands, if you can't do the troubleshooting and replacing of parts yourself, you can end up with a lot of money out in service calls, which in turn may prove a waste of time because HVAC technicians apparently don't have supply chain access to Mr. Cool parts. Even if a pro should diagnose the problem, the only way they can get replacement parts is through Mr. Cool - same as you, the customer - and good luck with that since it's nearly impossible to reach Mr. Cool by phone!
At least you own up to your mistake. But you still may have berm right about the compressor as the shorted wire might have caused the compressor winding to be slightly off too. So what I am saying is the compressor may have been defective too. But at least you caught the shorted wire too. But don't beat yourself up as it may have been both.
I don't know where you got the shorted wire from? The compressor was bad. It contaminated the coolant. The heat pump was replaced and do to the head unit having contaminated coolant in it after replacing the heat pump and lineset, it contaminated the new compressor unit verified by a technician the whole system had to be replaced. It took nearly 5 months to have everything resolved and working.
@@bynumwoodworks8275 when you say coolant you mean refrigerent and yes it would get contaminated along with the refrigerent oil which lubricates the compressor by failing to after instalation puting both the condenser and head unit or mini split head under a vacaum before releasing the refrigerent from the condenser and a vacaum pump and ac Guage kit or very inexpensive to purchase at places like harbor freight for the vacaum pump. Or Amazon. Again just trying to help. But I am glad you had an hvac tech come out and got it replaced.
No way would I purchase a Mr. cool I wouldn't want to deal with this if all that could happen to me. I'm going to go a different route thanks for the Information hope you get yours taken care of
The problem I have with Mr. Cool is that I've needed a part for two years and they "don't have any." Yet they continue selling and building the same model heat pump I have. I used it for about a year and a snake crawled into it and shorted a circuit board. Now it's essentially a wall ornament.
Although Mr. Cool doesn't make this clear in their install manual, the condenser should not be installed at ground level. Whether snakes or rodents, the enclosure is not animal proof and such damage is not covered by warranty. It's not only necessary to wall mount the inside air handler but the outside condenser - at least if you want to preserve the warranty. There are brackets available to wall mount these condensers but they must be purchased separately. Also recommended to buy the line set covers (also sold separately) because otherwise the elements will damage your refrigerant lines (UV light damage, etc.)
I have the same problem. P4 error no matter what I do. Bought my unit in late Nov of last year. Just installed it this past weekend. P4 error as soon as I hooked it up. Have called numerous times and left several messages including email. No response in 5 days. VERY POOR customer service.
I did finally get a response after several weeks. Call customer support. Not just tech support and tell them you left a message with out getting a response. That is what I did and a couple of days later I got a call back.
Currently have this problem although i purchased my unit over a year ago and has not worked since. Have had several HVAC professionals check it and one of them told me i needed a new board so I contacted Mr Cool and they sent a new one. New one was installed and did nothing. This thing has given me hell for over a year i cant believe it. Thinking about buying a whole new compressor.
@@robertberin4872 nope, my compressor never kicked on. At this point im getting ready to just install a complete new compressor unit, hopefully they can sell me that separately.
@@gilgonzalez5902 You should check the resistance of the compressor prongs. Remove the top and then front cover (don't have to take the whole thing off just the left side, & bottom screw) and remove the White T plug that goes to the compressor. Check the resistance between the prongs. Mine was 0.22 Ohms between all 3. Also check the resistance between the prongs and ground using your multimeter. If there is any resistance between ground and one of the prongs your compressor is shot.
Getting a P6. Not much at all online over what this might be other than low pressure. I've rechecked for leaks and there's a bit of info suggesting it might not be a leak, but something else. Mr. Cool really needs to bolster the "DIY" portion of troubleshooting, it's non-existent for a company that has non-existent customer service as well.
I have 3 mrcool units, about 2 years old now. I'm getting a P4 error on one unit and I too am waiting and waiting for a call back. You know they are busy when you have to wait in a 15 minute queue to access their voice messaging system to beg for a call back.
The same thing happened to me a year ago, they replaced the entire unit the new unit worked well all summer I turned it on to the heat setting and no heat. Now I have a P4 message and I have to go through this again
Some of this is reportedly because micro leaks form in the threads in cold winter conditions. But ultimately it could be a consequence of not using the recommended HVAC torque wrench. Conceivably, Mr. Cool could save a lot on warranty replacements and angry customers if they would just emphasize the need to use a REAL HVAC torque wrench and/or a better leak method (i.e. sniffer tool). Even a simple decision to include HVAC gasket thread sealant would prevent a lot of these issues. Apparently they have yet to hire a product design engineer who will tell them this? Ugh.
I went through three units which they covered but had to pay shipping on the last one I found a sealant to put on the joints and after a year knock on wood no issues. The third unit has been flawless.I don’t know why it was not recommended or mentioned by the tech’s I spoke to or in the installation instructions
You do not do that with mrcool diy systems. The lineset an compressors are ready to go. The compressor was bad. Replacement unit is still working today.
I've had bad experience with the Mrcool Advantage 9k heatpump. Had P4 errors and had to pay a local tech to diag and send in video of their gauges. They finally replaced the outside unit which had lasted about a month and now it's getting P4 errors again. This has been a winter time heating problem. The unit was replaced right at the 1 year mark. I believe the warranty is now expired. I've never had so many problems with an A/C unit in my life. I'll try support again but I'm not putting another dime into this piece of garbage. I'll shop for another brand.
@@bynumwoodworks8275 I'm not sure if it ever got to zero but the initial problem occurred during the heating season. My son mentioned that the indoor unit didn't seem to be heating properly and when I investigated, I found the outside unit was all froze up. At that point, I turned the unit off to let everything thaw out. Since that time, the unit does not start. The outside unit doesn't do anything at all. The inside unit acts like it is going to work but then the P4 code shows up and nothing else happens.
@frankshuster5015 what I did this season was put a roof over it... snow shelter. The instructions says ice will damage the unit. Also the wat the defroster works is by temporarily activating the cool mode which sucks heat from inside the building I put a space heater that turned on when the temp inside gets below 55 degrees. This winter I have not experienced any issues. Did you open a warranty claim ?
A P4 error code is caused by an error in the compressor drive. This error code is could be caused by a faulty outdoor board, a faulty outdoor fan motor or a compressor malfunction.
@@percyvick431 Same here. Powered on after installation and got an EL 01 communications error. Took a long time to reach Mr. Cool and even longer to get the replacement part, an outdoor control board. While awaiting that part, had an electrician out to certify that everything was correct. (It was.) Installed the outdoor control board and it immediately kicked out a PC 04 error. Apparently Mr. Cool is in the lemon business! From what I understand, most HVAC techs won't service these because there are no distributors for Mr. Cool parts. So not only is it possible to rack up costs, ultimately the HVAC tech will not be able to play phone tag with Mr. Cool and that will fall to the customer. Mr. Cool either needs to have contracted providers (they don't) OR they need to make their parts available to distributors. Barring that, the only saving grace out of possibly needing my entire compressor replaced (assuming that's what it comes down to) is that I will have a unit to cannibalize for parts when something else breaks. (Which judging from the number of BBB complaints, is only a matter of time.)
I had P2 and P3 errors that were due to my failure to open the two King valves. Once I did, all is good. Tech support replied quickly to solve. A dual zone has these valves, a single zone does not. YT intall video I watched was single zone. Should have read manual better for MY system.
Pull disconnect (outside power supply), to shut off all power to unit. Wait more than 5 FULL minutes. Restore power, and turn unit on. This is a hard reset for the motherboard. It may clear the issue. Worked for me, with P4 error code. Must wait more than 5 minutes.
It did get resolved but basically was without heat from January through mid March. It is currently running fine but temperatures are barely touching freezing now. I don't think I would recommend in a cold climate.
I was told it was being sent over to warrantee and they would replace the compressor. I believe that was on Wednesday. Today I called the warrantee desk and just got a voice-mail box like the one I left a message on and waited 3 weeks or more to get a reply from. I understand that they like a lot of places in the country is short staffed. I want to give the benefit of the doubt. I will update the the comments on whether I hear anything or not and when it is resolved. Also my purpose was not to whine but the get a lot of publicity on RU-vid and exactly why I purchased mine. But now that I had my issue I found multiple reviews about poor support. I really hope next video is on how they resolved the issue and I can give a positive review.
2 days ago I received a replacement heat pump just about 1 months after the initial phone call to support. The unit arrived via freight. Exterior of unit was in great condition. I will install it this week.
I did get everything hooked back up and running good then about 20 minutes later, no error message but no heat also. Contacted Tech Support again. We determined the the refrigerant got contaminated with the first unit. It is assumed that the refrigerant in the head unit had contaminated refrigerant in it and when we ran the unit it contaminated the rest of the system. They are sending a complete replacement.
The tech support for this company is awful. Mine never blew cold air. Had HVAC guy come look, said installation was fine. Mr. Cool finally answered after 1 week and sent an outdoor board. Changed that and it still isn't blowing cold air. I got the P4 message for a while. No cold air, but no error cord. Voltage meter outside, 1 of 3 of the wires only reading >100 and bouncing around. The other 2 holding above 120. Mr. Cool sending inside board. And want me to send pics of wiring. They tell you information little by little instead of all the interventions and trouble shooting they want you to do. I wish I would've paid the extra 2k to have a good product installed. I cannot recommend this product. And it seems many of us have had the same experience.
My voltage was good. The compressor in the heat pump was burnt up. I don't feel like it can handle zero degrees. So far, the cooling has worked well. Winter is what I am worried about.
I’ve been waiting months for tech support to call me back. Multiple issues. Unfortunately this company has zero support it’s nonexistent. And the product they sell appears to be rebranded MIC junk. Would never recommend their products especially if one has reliability in mind.
@@oswaldogarcia4144 They sell Mr. Cool through Costco, which is better than the 30-day limit provided by the likes of Amazon. Still I would say that anybody buying any brand should keep in mind that labor isn't covered and that's where so much of the "warranty" expenses are incurred. Additionally, in some states shipping isn't covered either, and for oversized items like a condenser the shipping costs can be steep. None of these units should be sold without an extended warranty option. Unfortunately, Costco doesn't offer an extended warranty. Mine went from an EL 01 communication error on Day One to a control board replacement for the outdoor condenser to a PC 04 error. It has NEVER worked right. What sells Mr. Cool is the fact that they offer a better-than-average warranty. But they are so busy responding to customers with problem units that they can barely keep up with their calls and almost all of them go into voicemail. At some point, the only way to get their attention after a period of non-response is to threaten to leave a BBB complaint. Over on the BBB website, they have 13 pages of complaints. Bad control boards and leaks at the threads, in turn causing loss of heat and various error codes, seem to be a recurrent theme.
A P4 error code will generally be related to your mini splits compressor system, housed within the outdoor unit. When the compressor drive is not working, the most likely cause is excessively high temperatures. A high temperature at the discharge line may also lead to a P4 code. Found this googling your mini split
@Bynum Woodworks I'm in St. Louis so they can be brutal and mild. This year when it was in the negative temps it kept up pretty good for a 3 car garage with no insulation in the attic.
MrCool sent me a new heat pump and line set. Connect everything up. Worked fine for about 20 minutes. Sent an email this evening. Who did you buy from?
@@PapaRugby not working. Mrcool sent me a new heat pump and line set. Installed the heat pump and line set worked for a few minutes and then it started blowing cool air. Turned out the refrigerant got contaminated by the first issue. They are going to sent a complete unit replacement but trying to figure out who pays for the shipping.
@@bynumwoodworks8275 i was wondering how they would resolve that. AS a 40 year refrigeration tech i can tell you the outdoor unit and lineset issue isnt a diy repair. Glad they are sending you a system. only way to go. Ductless units of all makes are great until they fail. They should pay the shipping.Small price to win back a customer
John, after I replaced the heat pump and line set it was determined that the head unit had contaminated refrigerant in it and after running the system for a few minutes it quit producing heat. The refrigerent contaminated the compressor. Mr Cool is doing a full replacementd.
I wish it was. No kinked tubing good tight seal. Temp dropped below zero and either ice build-up or something then to a p4 error. Second compressor was do to the head unit having contamination in it. Had a tech come out and check everything. Pressure was good no leaks. But he noticed the refrigerant and a strange oder and color. When Mr cool sent out the replacement compressor and lineset the didn't think about the refrigerant in the head.
