Because of a renovation/addition I had to move this unit.
I purchased it from Ingram's, they had the best price and great customer service.

They're out of Kentucky so where ever you are in the country shipping should only take a few days.

Thank you so much for creating and posting this video. Our Mr. Cool died a week or so ago and nobody in our area will work on it. From some deep research, it is probably a circuit board in the inside part of the unit. We have started pricing a replacement circuit board and plan on replacing it ourselves. We use to build computers for fun many years ago. We have ordered a new more powerful unit and will install it when it gets here and then we can disassemble the old unit. Apparently Mr. Cool has made many enemies and none of them will work on any Mr. Cool units currently, ca. July 2024. Maybe when they get more market share that will change.

Sorry to hear about your system going down. Mine is currently down but it cools the garage and it’s not a priority at the moment. It’s give me an F6 error on the inside units. I’m sure it’s simple enough to fix or replace parts, after all it’s a diy system. HVAC companies in my area won’t service them either. Mainly because they don’t get to charge the absorbent rates to install … these systems are cutting into their profits.

Close the liquid valve and run the heat pump in cooling mode for a minute or two and then close the vapour valve and then shut down the unit. All the refrigerant will be stored in the outdoor unit and you can remove the lineset. The liquid line of the lineset is not designed to be removed with liquid in it.

Even with the self closing linesets the Mr cool units come with ?

If you replacing the condenser ,so will you just close the the valves and unhook lines
@Ratherbemilling
@Ratherbemilling 11 дней назад
Yea, the fittings on the lines will self seal. You’ll need to be a little careful about the charge in the new condenser… don’t want to over charge the system

You should have pumped the system down by closing the high side king valve and running the compressor. It pulls all the refrigerant out of the evaporator and line set and stores it in the condenser. Then you close the suction side valve and remove the connections. No offense but this is video is not the way to do it.
@Ratherbemilling

Thanks for the feedback, your probably right but when I spoke to Mr cool this is how they told me to do it. I’ve seen other videos doing what you described and I think your right, however i didn’t lose much if any measurable amount of refrigerant when disconnecting. I’m going to have to do this again on another system. I’m going to do it the way your describing, when doing so does it matter if it’s on heat or cool?

Ugh, i just had a buddy remove the lines and we didn't close any valves first. I have a replacement (new) lineset, so not the end of the world if we lost the refrigerant in this first lineset. Trying to decide if i should even bother trying to see if the old set works.
@Ratherbemilling
@Ratherbemilling 9 месяцев назад
Oh that sucks… chances are you lost the refrigerant in the condenser… the linesets will close on their own. Probably not worth the effort to reconnect the old ones if you have a new set.

@@soundofsilence21 When I disconnected mine a little did escape but the units work fine so far ... i'm guessing theres a little over charge but i'm not an expert so who knows. Not sure how much is actually stored in the machine verses the lines. hopefully everything works out ok. As a side note, all the HVAC techs in my area are prima donna's ... they won't work on anything they don't sell (at absorbent prices) I finally found one guy that would work on my units if i need. There is no difference between brands, the excuse they all use is not knowing the volume of refrigerant in the system. News flash - every brand is different!! The solution is to pick up the phone of email the manufacturer with the model and serial to get the require info. NOT THAT COMPLICATED!

@@Ratherbemilling oh yeah same here couldn't find anyone to touch it. But they wanted like $7k-8k before COVID to install their own units. I'll try to update here once we get the lines connected. Stupid question, but do you know if the lineset is required to be hooked up to provide heat?

can you remove the line set that connects to the shorter line set that comes from the air handler and connects to the longer line set you just removed?
@Ratherbemilling
@Ratherbemilling Месяц назад
No you can’t. It is brazed onto the connection inside the unit. It’s best not to mess with it unless you know what you’re doing.

@@Ratherbemilling it has the same mech as the long line set. If you remember when installing. You use two wrenches to screw the small line set from the air handler to the long line set that goes to the unit. Shouldn't it be the same? Because I need to move the air handler as well as the unit.
@Ratherbemilling

in the installation manual on page 30 they reference "King Valves". They might be making the wrong reference but thats where I got that term from. Thanks for your input.

Thanks for this video. You're right...no other ones on moving Mr. Cool pre-charged line sets. Is there a spring in both the part that's connected to the outside unit and the quick connector on the line set? If there is, it seems like both sides would just seal without any refrigerant lost even if the valves on the unit were not closed, since, in effect, there's a valve on both sides of where the connection is unscrewed. Or, well, is it like James ( @SerpentDrago ) stated below that there's some metal that's pierced and these can only be used once without vacuuming?
@Ratherbemilling
@Ratherbemilling Год назад
There’s a valve similar to the quick connects on air compressor hoses at both ends. They want you to close the valves so not atmospheric moisture getting into the system. From what I understand there is not a piece metal that pierces a seal. The idea is to not loss refrigerant and no need for a technician
@RobsMemoryLane
@RobsMemoryLane Год назад
I'm in the process of installing one of these, a 48k unit. I forgot to replace the communication cable for the longer one I ordered and I have the air handler mounted on the wall and the line sets connected. However, I have not done anything with the allen wrench part. I should be able to disconnect the line set without losing refrigerant, correct?
@Ratherbemilling
@Ratherbemilling Год назад
Yes that’s correct. As long as you didn’t monkey tighten the fittings you’ll be fine. Make sure you follow the correct procedure when opening the valves with the Alan wrench. It’s more stressful than it sounds… if you got this far you’ll be fine.

There are tabs on the back of the unit. You have access through small slots in the bottom of the head unit. I think they are kind of in the middle of the unit. You will need a flathead screwdriver

This is incorrect. The line's are pre charged but Once connected it punctures a metal disc. You can not disconnect without loosing everything in the lines. On top of that you Just flooded the lines with moist Air.

I thought the same thing. However, I did this according to instructions from the manufacturer. If I have issues I guess we’ll find out when I go to reconnect. Is there a way to check the lines ahead of time so I don’t contaminate the whole system?
@SDartie
@SDartie Год назад
@SerpentDrago Interesting, how would you say you know this for a fact? I ask, because I know for a fact that I have connected and reconnected my 24k MrCool 3rd Gen 3 different times and every time has worked perfectly. In fact, it's working in my living room I'm right now on a scorching day and it's so cold I have it set to 76 degrees and my wife is still complaining. Literally everyone regurgitates this nonsense. Think about it... MrCool had to get EPA authorization for this DIY setup. You think the EPA would approve it if a homeowner could just disconnect it super easily and then the refrigerant would leak into the air? Do you even have a MrCool unit? If you did, you would see the connections have double o-rings and compression fittings.... meaning, that there is an airtight seal before the "metal discs" as you put it, are pushed back to open the flow. I used to be a helicopter crewchief in the Marines. The fittings on the mrcool units are very similar to our the 4k psi removable hydraulic fittings we used on certain parts of the hydraulic system. @professionalhomeowner it'll work just fine bud

Thank you for your reply sir. I had a professional reconnect the units last week, turned them on and now they are functioning perfectly! Only reason I didn’t do it myself was because one line set was not long enough to each the new location, so we needed new lines to be charged. Regardless, everything is working perfectly!
