MRE Review NEW MENU !!! French RCIR The Menu 12 Strasbourg Sausages 

Paella (“pah-eh-ya”) is a Spanish dish usually consisting of mixed seafood- prawns/shrimps, mussels, calamari- and chorizo sausage, sometimes chicken with peas and rice with saffron. That is just mushroom soup, as others have pointed out. Champignon is a French generic term for mushroom. That tinned boar meat is actually a terrine not a pâté. The main difference is that the meat in a terrine is a rougher grind and not a smooth paste, which is basically what pâté translates as. Farmed pig loses a lot of its flavour compared to wild pigs that eat basically anything and everything they come across rifling through leaf litter, including dead animals like rats and fæcal matter- which is one of the principal reasons Jews and Muslims don’t go near them. Some nougat bars may have a stronger taste of almonds than what you’re used to. This may give the perception of it being “off”. Hopefully, that hot chocolate mix isn’t eleventy-seven percent sugar, which is what a lot of drinking chocolates here in Australia are like. Probably the same for the U. S. A stunning ration. The U. S. DoD recommends not eating their MRE’s for more than three weeks straight. I reckon you could almost totally subsist on these French rations, so long as you have access to an adequate supply of fresh water.

Creme de champignons is Cream of Mushroom soup

Little late to the party but, a thing I see a lot in RCIR tasting is that you pour the Isotonic drink in not enough water (it's made for 0.5L). Usually soldiers put it in their gourd to hit two birds with one stone, a sweet drink while walking all day is better than plain (sometimes awfull, depends in which country they are in) water, and it give them a self regulated dose of sugar through all day to keep going ^^.

Nathan, just wanted to say I appreciate the amount of reviews you pump out. I love watching Steve's MRE reviews but he only releases videos every so often. You are constantly churning out quality content which fills the gap.

we (the British Army) lived on the French Army Rations during the early days of the Balkans conflict. we found that (though they can be eaten cold) there was extra fat in the tins to aid cooking and not require stirring. one of the hexi tabs provided heated one tin on the esbit stove perfectly :)

I want this ration so bad never had an international one yet just a couple U.S. loved both but my main goal French and Italian.

I always keep a couple RCIRs in my fridge for camping, tailgating, etc. It's better food than what I can cook at home!

A great review. The French (Combat) Picnic ration. Just imagine the Army sergeants trying to get the soldier back to work after the 5 star picnic lunch. That plum jam is wonderful to add to meat gravy also. Sadly the two 250 ml individual wine sachets and the 4-pack of Gauloises were not included in this picnic ration. BS that is the best MRE I have ever seen obviously you not being from a culinary college and being a desert storm veteran oh my really nice. The American MRE mostly suck only 5 or 6 of the 20 menu was any good. We should have contracted with the French.

That stupid a** tiny little spork kills me every time, hahahaha... Always find it fascinating that the nougat bars go to hell so quickly, which is a shame, love that stuff. Cool find, was neat to see. Thanks for putting it up.

If you go to google translate and in the first box make the language "detect language" and in the second box put US English, then put the word you want to translate in and in that same box there is a speaker icon, if you click on that it will tell you how to pronounce words. Looks far more tasty than a US MRE, but if you were in a foxhole with bullets whizzing by, the US type probably would be easier to eat. Still, bet the soldiers would choose the French type.

On the field, some drink chocolat with half coffe for a top moka !!! Bon appétit à tous :) Red Tea = Red Fruit Tea. Crême de champignons = Mushroom cream. Strasbourg is a town near the german border, so it's near german saucisse... Paëlla is a typical Spanish main... Mix Jam and Pâté is NOT french at all... This sort of cheese is the worst of all. Industriel and you don't wan't to know how it's made... And it's not a french song... But a song in french about the fealing to be a stranger in France...

LOL, I tell you most of this stuff is available in my local shop, and for this MRI you have to get one with Peny's ready meals. They do sell into the Carrefour market chain (with their "microwavable in the can" ready meals), but by far their biggest ready meal market is for MRIs. Peny is more common in the shop for great canned veggies. If I want that Saucisses de Strasbourg pates, or Paella, I could get it but, I'd have to get a different brand (i'm miles from a Carrefour). Quality varies by manufacturer, but Peny is considered one of the best, and does very well with its Military contracts. Still it's all very similar to what's on the shelves all over France.
