Ahhh, Mrs. Frumpinton. This is my favorite Alvin cartoon of all time! Her all-too-stiff musical snobbery.. destroyed by the allure of cool, jazzy popular music.. echoed the sentiments of so many of my own early music instructors. Initially insisting that CLASSICAL was the only TRUE music.. and all others deemed unworthy.. the 'Munks soon set her straight. Voiced so brilliantly by the incredible Ms. June Foray.. may GOD bless her talented Immortal soul.
This is one of my favorite cartoons of all time. That woman reminds me of so many music snobs. I like to know how June Forey kept saying "baby" continuously. She had to be exhausted
Heh, yep. Though in that episode, at first Mrs. Frumpington was voiced by actress Lee Patrick, until she begins scat-singing as heard here, when June Foray takes over, because Lee couldn't give as crazy a delivery the way June could, and June was hilarious here! Though when Mrs. Frumpington appeared again in "Good Manners," June Foray voiced her throughout.
It wasn't just Alvin this time; though they are usually more well behaved than Alvin, Simon & Theodore are more than happy to help Alvin on his mischief. Just look at the smug looks on all three chipmunks' faces.
Damn. If there's one thing I remember June Foray for, it's for playing the long-lasting role as Granny from the Looney Tunes series, throughout the classic series and through the modern series. I can't imagine anyone else playing Granny but her. I'm so used to hearing her sweet and soothing voice in a sweet and soothing character. I just can't believe she passed away 2 MONTHS before her 100th birthday. If it was after, I would have been sad, yet happy that she lived to be a century old. All I can say is, she was a gem of the classic cartoons, from Looney Tunes to The Flintstones to The Smurfs to Rocky and Bullwinkle and all others. It's a shame that she's no longer with us, but at her legacy as a beloved cartoon voice actress will forever live on. R.I.P June Foray *1917-2017*
She outlived her Best Friend,Neighbor and Ducktales Castmate Alan Young by 14 months. tolucantimes.info/wp-content/uploads/2012/12/T02-05-COL-Golden-Halo-Awards-2.jpg
June Foray didn't start playing Granny until the mid-1950's. In the earlier cartoons from the late 40's-early 50's, Granny was Bea Benadaret, but she gave up the part because she was too busy on TV as a regular with George Burns and Gracie Allen. It's also unfortunate that neither actress ever got billing in the cartoons because Mel Blanc was a credit hog. His contract with Warner Bros. contained a clause that only his name would appear in the credits. This was especially unfair to Arthur Q. Bryan, who played Elmer Fudd.
@@jeffmissinne3866, indeed; Mel Blanc was the very first animation voice actor to get any screen credit, back at a time when voice actors were never credited in shorts or movies. (The early Disney animated features didn't credit the voice cast, either!) But yeah, it was indeed unfair to Arthur Q. Bryan. He was the best Elmer Fudd voice. And in the early 1960s they began crediting other voice actors in the Warner Bros. cartoons; I think it had something to do with Mel Blanc doing voice work in "The Flintstones", terminating his contract so he could work for Hanna-Barbera in addition to Warner Bros.
Alvin & his brothers really pulled it off on that square Mrs. Frumpington by revealing she really liked hot jazz music. That's what I call getting even with your enemy. Ross Bagdasadrian's band is great, they play as hot as any band from the 40's & 50's. June Foray really screeches it out here as loud as she can. What a voice! You are surely missed, June . R.I.P. (1917-2017)
Its funny because I was looking up interviews of Miss Foray and clips of Bullwinkle just a few days before she passed. Weird . . . man, she did some awesome memorable voices and it's cool how she was still doing the voice of Rocky the Flying Squirrel in 2014!!!
My mom has the record with this song so I never saw her “character” in Alvin but I knew the whole intro but heart for playing it over and over 100 times lol. Still makes me laugh out loud. Thanks for posting this and may she RIP.
We had this album when we were kids. We played it so much. Then 10 years later we had another brother who started listening to it. By that time we had had enough of this album. Our brother played it so much, my older brother and I tried to destroy it. It would not break our anything. We were stuck listening to it. Ha ha! Now it's a fun memory. Wish I still had it.
This is the episode that sticks in my mind the most from the old Alvin show, because of the manic BABY BABY BABY song. I wonder if the "men in the white coats" sequence would be allowed any more on TV. Thanks for posting! (I'm sorry, though, that the last few seconds are missing: I distinctly remember watching the back of the looney-van with the word TILT - TILT- TILT flashing on it.)
My favorite episode as well...loved the song bit. As a kid (playing bookie from school) I saw this and thought I'm missing some great stuff while I'm at school. I still send this song to people at random. It will endure!
I have watched the Alvin and the Chipmunks show as a child and In have to say I can't remember seeing the Mrs. Frumpington episode, but watching this clip, I have to say, in my opinion, this was June Foray's best performance ever.
This was one of the greatest moments of cartoondom in my childhood! Thank you. For me it was a wonderful summary of the dreadful quality of 1960s 'Cool It and Baby' music, as I called it. Elvis made nauseated me. Most of what was on AM radio playing on my transistor radio revolted me. I was a classical music kid. Mr. Frumpington's song, by way of June Foray, got my stamp of approval and glee.
Wow I was searching for this for sometime now! I remember listening to the LP when I was a child and later seeing it on TV! Love this ❤️ Baby baby baby!!😆 my favorite parts! Thank you so much for posting!👏
I loved this on "The Alvin Show." (How dinosaurish Alvin's speakers look, considering how we can carry hi-fi in our pockets now!) Mrs. Frumpington was truly the "boogie fever" of the early '60s-no wonder she had to be straitjacketed away in an ambulance! (This theme was reused in a Clyde Crashcup cartoon, in which he slip-slid across the floor.) Rest in peace, June Foray-your voice touched many hearts, minds, bodies...and feet!
I remember watching this one as a little kid when Nickelodeon re-ran it around 1994, and I totally forgot about it until years later. Can't stop laughing. My parents had huge speakers connected to the stereo that they bought sometime in the 80s. They got rid of them in 2008.
@@cbsteffen Yes, in that episode, June voiced Mrs. Frumpington throughout. Not like here, where Lee Patrick initially voices her, until this scene where June takes over, because Lee couldn't go crazy with her delivery the way June could. It's very obvious to the trained ear of a cartoon expert.
I Didn't Know about Her Passing til This Morning. Not to Mention, But She Also was the Voice of Karen from Frosty the Snowman, Alice McNeil (Unseen Character on Gilligan's Island) and Aaron's Mother from The Little Drummer Boy. She would be Sadly Missed, But Never Forgotten. :(
She was not the voice of Karen in FTS in FROSTY THE SNOWMAN, she was the voice of the teacher in that cartoon and only the teacher. Have you ever watched the FTS? Listen carefully to Karen's voice and see if that's June Foray.
I'll always remember june foray for many cartoon voices of rocky ,granny, natasha, grandma fa,hazel witch etc. For the time I used to watch looney tunes, rocky and bull winkle and other shows with her voice.
god I hope the first episode of the DuckTales reboot will be dedicated to her memory even though she likely had no involvement in it, but come on she was the original Ma Beagle and Magica DeSpell
I know, right. This year we lost Adam West, Bill Paxton, Tino Insana, Tony Rosato, Charlie Murphy, Don Rickles, Roger Moore, Ben Forster, and more. Almost as bad as it was on 2016.
RIP such a wonderful woman... Wish I could have met her in real life... Rocky the Squirrel, Mrs. Frumpington, Ursula from George of the Jungle, Cindy Lou Who, and countless others...
I know that, June Foray made a passaway either yesterday, or last night, from natural causes or old age, when she was almost 100 years old. I'm gonna miss her.
She passed away in her Sleep on July 26,2017. She joins Best Friend,Neighbor and Ducktales Castmate Alan Young 14 months and 7 days after his death from Heart Failure at 96. She was 99(PR wise) but actually 98 years old. tolucantimes.info/wp-content/uploads/2012/12/T02-05-COL-Golden-Halo-Awards-2.jpg
Lee Patrick provided Mrs. Frumpington's speaking voice, up until near the end when she starts to go crazy with her singing and scatting, when June Foray provided her voice (as apparently Lee couldn't go crazy with her vocals the way June could).
She did amazing voices unfortunately I'd never watched the old chipmunks Cartoon but I have rokey and Bullwinkle I'd love how she did rocky it was magnificent☺😞
yeah no kidding, couldn't they have waited awhile, I mean they waited awhile after Bob Hope and George Burns hit 100 she was ohsoclose to hitting the centennial, but hey 99 is a damn good long life
British Born/Canadian Character Actor and Voice Legend Angus Alan Young, Best Known as the Voice of Scrooge McDuck, died on Thursday May 19,2016 in Woodland Hills,CA from Heart Failure while he was being visited by his family. He was 96 years old and exactly 6 months shy of his 97th Birthday. Young had been healthy and vibrant up to that point. Although he had briefly battled Pneumonia in 2011, Young was otherwise very robust and generally sound in health. Young died suddenly on Thursday Afternoon May 19,2016 while in the Hollywood Motion Picture Retirement Community Center while he was sitting in a Bingo Chair talking to family members. He was awake, coherent and alert and then suddenly slumped over out of his chair and dropped to the floor. Medical Personnel and Paramedics worked on him for nearly an hour before pronouncing him dead from Heart Failure. He had simply suffered a fatal Heart Attack at the ripe old age of 96 and half. June Foray and Alan Young were Close Friends and Neighbors in the Woodland Hills Hollywood Motion Picture Retirement Community. Located in Woodland Hills,Los Angeles, This Community housed aging and very old surviving celebrities in Upscale Large Foot Apartment Housing. Foray and Young often Shopped together, visited each other's homes, attended local Voice Acting Panels together and often were seen chatting and hanging out with each other. After all, BOTH had successfully reprised their roles as Scrooge McDuck and Magica DeSpell in the Ducktales Remastered Video Game in 2013. tolucantimes.info/wp-content/uploads/2012/12/T02-05-COL-Golden-Halo-Awards-2.jpg After Alan's passing. June is said to have grown Morose,Melancholy and begin talking less and less. On the Early Morning Hours of Wednesday July 26,2017, Medical Personnel in Woodland Hills, noticed 98-99(Most Census records show her Birth year as 1918 not 1917) Widow June Foray Donovan as unresponsive in her Bed in her Complex. She had a faint pulse and it was thought she might have suffered from some sort of Blood Pressure Shock. She was Airlifted to the Famous Cedar Sinai Medical Center in Hollywood, and was pronounced dead on arrival. She had died in her sleep during the Dawn Hours of July 26,2017.
If they have no heart, they'd be dead. I think Bagdasarian Productions lost their sympathy when they first revived the franchise. Or at least part of it.
She died peacefully in her sleep at her home in Woodland Hills,CA on July 26,2017. She was actually 98(All Records show her birthdate as 1918) and outlived her Best Friend,Neighbor and Ducktales Castmate Alan Young by 14 months. tolucantimes.info/wp-content/uploads/2012/12/T02-05-COL-Golden-Halo-Awards-2.jpg Young died aged 96 of Heart Failure at his Home in Woodland Hills,CA on Thursday May 19,2016.
"Just listen to the wind rustling through the branches..." I think he mentions a bullfrog as well. To the sound of a standup bass plucking out some sweet melody.
In this episode, she was indeed Lee Patrick, up until this scene where June Foray voiced her. I believe Lee couldn't go crazy with her delivery the way June could.
