I want to share and I don't care if you don't believe me. I bought a new 2021 Pajero Sport, ordered in Jan 2021 and delivered April 2021. I purchased a Provent catch can before I picked up the car. I fitted the catch can the next Saturday after collecting the car, emptied it every 3,000 or so km. When the 1st service was due after 12 months and only 12,000 (thank you Covid), the wek before the service I decided to take off the catch can before pitching up to Mitsubishi for the service. Now here is the kicker, the car had I reckon 15% more power without the catch can (but dyno). There was a marked difference in the power. Yes it was fitted correctly, correct inlet and outlet. After the service I descided not to put it back in and I figure if it needed one Mitsubishi and all the other car manufacturers would install one for a hundred bucks more. Ask yourself why don't they. That is my story. Test it out yourself.

My 2015 Triton has done 150,000kms in blizzard conditions in Austria to + 40C in southern Europe. If I sold Catch Cans I would say they are essentially but I don't. I haven't got one fitted to mine and I check the breather and intakes on mine and it is perfectly acceptably and it run perfectly.

It's oil vapour going into the turbo and intercooler so that's what the oil catch can is catching And then the exhaust gases goes in to the intake manifold blocking it up

In my opinion I'm all for them, but it has to be a well known brand and there's only one. I bought a new mr triton and it was the first thing I fitted. I'm very surprised at how much it does filter out. I follow a well known diesel mechanic and he recommends them. My local mechanic recommends them. Friends of mine who are diesel mechanics highly recommend them. A catch can is a pre filter there's no way it can void warranty, but we all know how manufacturers can operate. The cost of fitting the catch can vs the mechanic cleaning the intakes and everything else down the track will pay for it self. I went through those processes with previous diesel vehicles. And if I happen to have issues down the track I will take the catch can off before I take it to Mitsubishi. If in doubt speak to some local diesel mechanics on your area.

Did you test the vehicle on the dyno Before and After the Catch Can? IF not, then there is no evidence.

I put a catch can on my new 2019 Triton, I bought the catch can from Diesel Care in Toowoomba . The Triton was still under warranty till 45,000 kilometres . Have empty it every 5,000 kilometres and plenty of dark dirty oil is drained out. I figure if you have a catch can fitted your resale value would be greater as the buyer would know you looked after the vehicle. My next item to buy is a secondary fuel filter fitted after the primary filter another plus for resale value. Cheers Chris

It is cheap insurance, I think. If you plan to keep the vehicle for the life of it, it would be good to keep the intake clean. There has been mention of voiding warranties, etc, but really unless your catch can is a cheap thing with no blowoff valve, or is one of those Ryco ones with a check valve in it (see video by Jebbreys Jibberish ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-44cIVBsBKYQ.html), it will not allow pressure build-up to occur and affect your engine at all. Got one in my triton and very happy with what it is saving my intake from!

Its not exhaust gases ,it crankcase oil vapour that's vented into the inlet from the crankcase .Its the EGR that introduces the soot that makes the sludge .Fit one within the first kilometre .It won't void tour warranty .The dealer wants your motor to sludge up so he can charge you .Your warranty won't include de slugdgeing your inlet.Your theory is somewhat flawed

Mitsubishi dealer directly advised it won’t void warranty. Also despite the warranty they won’t cover the cost of the cleaning of the intake if it clogs up. My last car was serviced as per Mitsubishi servicing reqs for 11yrs, intake was totally clogged and drove like a dog. You can’t totally remove the build up back to original conditions. Overall if your not going to keep vehicle past 5yrs, it won’t matter if you don’t have one.

Mitsubishi hate paying on that 10yr warranty. My 2020glx+ is already getting roof paint peel and they wont warranty it.

Just came back from the dealer and i asked about reasons they would void my warranty. Catch can only in the case where the engine is damaged. The same way that if you change the suspenssions and damage the chassi. Now i feel more relaxed about adding it to the engine

I have an MR triton on order. I should receive it in January sometime. I have a Provent 200 catch can and pre filter sitting in the shed now and they will be fitted as soon as I get my Triton home. It’s what I feel is best for my investment and the trip around Australia I have planned. I should have a Brown Davis 100 litre tray tank sitting in wait as well. There is a bit of a wait on them.

I get so much oil in my intake, and leaks out the main pipe just before the throttle body, few drops of oil each day, I had the pipes fixed by Mitsubishi as it’s a recall as they are leaking, yet they say it’s normal to leak like this, I can see how leaking like this is nothing to worry about,

We have a 2016 MQ Triton, 165,000k and have yet to notice any difference in performance. We tow a 21ft van and live in country South Australia. The only way to really know is to have two identical cars one with and one without and pull them apart at say 165000k, and compare them.

Off subject mate, but are you going to fit a lift kit to your Mitsi ?, would like your opinion of the pros and cons of such a modification before I get it done.
@mrtriton5405
@mrtriton5405 2 года назад
Yeah mate absolutely! A lot of after market suspension out there is far superior to the factory stuff. It really depends on what you're doing with your Triton e.g. towing heavy or focusing on off-road performance. For my purposes I'll be looking at something a bit more than the standard (legal) 40mm lift with a higher constant load than factory. I'll make a video on the subject in the near future 👌

Would be interesting to see if there is any build up at all in your triton. Have contemplated fitting one to my MR but the warranty issue vs the benefit of having one probably isn’t worth it, as you’ve said, a 7 year warranty means anything that does go wrong mechanically, Mitsubishi legally has to fix it.

Mate you discussed the pros . and cons . of a catch can . so with 18.000ks of sludge in hoses . and inter cooller . it is obvious . where this will be in a few years . so why not just fit one . and a egr dalete . you will be far better of . and it can quickly be removed . if a warranty claim doese occur . do a muffler dalete as well . and let us know how it all gos .

A comment you are saying that Mitsubishi probably won't fix your Triton under warranty because you put a catch can in but would that not also apply to putting in a Long Range fuel tank, you have modified the vehicle with a non standard part,and have you not fitted a new tank, now there's something to think about.😵
@JG-fj1rc
@JG-fj1rc 2 года назад
They basically have to prove that the part you fitted caused the malfunction for it to not be covered under warranty. If you put a long range tank in and your injectors get clogged up because you forgot to plumb it through a diesel filter then they will be able to prove you were the reason for the failure. If it's installed properly and links into the existing plumbing and goes through the existing filter etc, then they would need to cover the repair.

Manufacturers spend millions researching and designing their engines. Keep your 7-10 year warranty intact then do whatever you want to it I’d doubt you’d be keeping a triton longer than that anyway?
@jaspreetbains2776

dont do it waste of time and money. oil dont hurt the motor its the exhaust particulates that the issue. Disable or delete the egr system . You may blow out seals if things get clogged up .

Catch cans are promoted by the people that sell them yet the sellers don't run a multi million dollar R&D program like THE MAKER OF THE BLOODY VEHICLE. Run your diesel on the freeway weekly, service it properly complete with regular oil and filter changes. No can needed.

Sorry mate you need to do your research a bit better Go and look at the difference between a inlet manifold with & one without & without a catch can after its done 100 thou no matter how well its serviced Catch cans were not something some filter place said oh lets make something that stops manifolds clogging up for shits & giggles There was a problem that existed & catch cans were made to fix the problem My mates pajero engine went at 135k and was a direct result of a clogged manifold perfect service history' if he had a catch can he'd still be driving it end of story
