It’s impressive how they managed to make the Devil super intimidating and evil in these last few episodes after pretty much a whole three seasons of him being funny and a show-stealer but not much of a threat
It could fall under 'creating and breaking expectations '. We see the devil in the beginning and see a fool and a joke, but then he turns around and proves to be more cunning and dangerous than we thought. It then leads to us asking if he is not being serious, because he is up against kids he can't control like Chalice.
@@luisesquivel5133 He’s got leverage. He could see right through Chalice’s usual charm… which means she can’t wriggle out of whatever favor he ends up giving her.
She didn't even hesitate. She basically just sold her soul right there when she agreed to take the favor without even knowing what it was. Says a few things about her character.
Well she IS a kid. Kid's aren't exactly known for making wise decisions. Plus it's not like she had any good role models in her life to teach her to be weary of such deals.
@@GuukanKitsune Meanwhile he didn’t ask for her soul outright, he asked for a mere favor, so it was her life for a price that didn’t seem too big at the time.
@@ButFirstHeLitItOnFire Yup, that would absolutely seem like a reasonable offer. Which is rather the point. Having someone owe him a favor is arguably much more dangerous than taking their soul... he could call in that favor at literally any moment and do far, far, faaaar more damage than just taking one soul. Especially if it is one favor from one person, at the right time, in the right place...
The Devil: "You know, I'm a bit of a song and dance man myself." Just in case anybody is wondering, this is a reference to the Christian belief that he was the Angel of Music (and Light) when he was still Lucifer in Heaven.
theres something about this devil that is better than the normal one. I wish we got to see this one a bit more. I like the silly devil as much as anyone, but eventually it becomes too much. 2:13 is enough to seal the deal
Agree 100%, I just love how intimidating he is while maintaining his usual personality at the same time. In this season we got to see a lot of it and I really liked it, it was a shame that at the end they reverted him back during the rock paper scissors moment, it wasn't bad but him winning would've maintained how in the game he won in the casino, they could've done it that he won the first game but with his hubris he continued to agree to rematch cuphead (best out of 3,5,7,9, etc) until eventually cuphead would catch up and win in the end, with the devil in awe he would ask for one more game with cuphead about to accept but mugman declining after seeing how close it is. It would've maintained the original end but also kept how imposing the Devil was in this season.
@@Mr60Gold I believe the implication is that the Devil became less serious as time went on universe, but brought it back against Ms Chalice. I also hope we get to see more of it in the next season
@@buzzlightyearpfp7641 I thought so too at first but then it shows what she did after coming back to life, showing it was the day she met cuphead and mugman so it was quite recently that it happened.
Everything you said is 100% what i was thinking I love the devil in the series but I really wished this aspect of his personality was used more. Id love to see him be in more scenes like this where theres elements of silly but a stronger emphasis on him being serious and manipulative instead of being immature in most of his scenes
In the episode where Chalice first appeared in, I thought that her turning into a ghost was just basically part of her Toon-Force/Cartoon Physics abilities ngl.
Protip: If anyone ever tries to make "A deal to be named at a later date", it's always a scam. Never accept a deal, especially a soul binding one, unless you know the full context of it and the specifics of said deal. 99% of the time you always lose more than you gain.
I like that unlike the rest of the show, where The Devils fur is a deep dark blue, this scene gives him his video game accurate black/dark gray fur, as well as the scenes generally more sinister tone. Kinda shows how much more power he holds over people who aren’t as oblivious as Cuphead
@@ortizdanielmodelo2021 Danny Phantom is about a show with a teenage boy got into an accident with his parents Ghost Portal when it wouldn’t turn on, now he’s a ghost fighting super hero to stop all the Ghost from taking over his town. It was made by Butch Hartman who made Fairly Oddparents.
I’m just relieved they gave Grey DeLisle a sweet, cutesy, and charming (pun intended) role like Ms. Chalice instead of a devilishly evil one. (Unlike other characters she’s voiced before; Vicky of The Fairly Oddparents, Mandy of The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy, etc.)
Ngl I love both sides the game and show but imagine if instead of chalice dyin she was actually like a angel or somethin like in the game and had a lot more of lore 😭
After viewing I figured to wait a minute, The Devil said it was her time does it not mean he just randomly was like: Now seems like it is her death date? I think it does but that’s pretty messed up if you think about how that is the case and how The Devil brought her to literal hell… Either way it ended well for her at least in the long run and not like everybody says about how it was a very bad deal or something! I personally and generally feel pretty good about her and The Devil got what he deserved and Chalice is honestly… pretty good the way she is and I don’t feel sorry for The Devil considering he tried killing all three cups but it ended well once and for all!
It means the Devil has leverage over her. Whatever that favor ends up being, Chalice _has_ to do it… because the Devil’s too perceptive for her to “charm” her way out.
@@kylestubbs8867 _Is_ he too perceptive? She actually _does_ try to charm him out of their deal, and it nearly works but for Stickler seeing through her attempt.
I posted this idea in another video before it was deleted. Fanfic idea: The Devil visits the orphanage and adopts Chalice before she escapes. What would her life be like growing up in the underworld with the Devil as her father, would she have still met Cuphead and Mugman and what if the Devil was a good father towards Chalice and treated her with love and affection?. What do you all think?, if you’re interested in this idea send me a reply!.
