I thought it was kinda obvious that chef Saltbaker was gonna be the twist villain, but I never would’ve expected for him to redeem himself at the end through community service. That is very wholesome.
Maybe he expected that if he were to control the astral plane he would be able to bring chalice back. Silly old fool doesn’t even know how magic works.
Though I find it very odd how Cuphead immediately forgave him. Obviously, it's a cartoon. It's a reference to the ol joke of how villains redeem themselves and everyone is friends. Though I still partially find it fucked up. Like, he tried to kill him. Tried to kill his friends. For a CAKE! A worlddominating cake!
Cuphead: The Delicious Last Course - (Ms. Chalice) Final Boss & Ending HD [2022] 0:00/5:47 Language: English USA 🇱🇷 June 30, 2022 Platforms: Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Microsoft Windows.
Not going to lie, when I fought the salt shaker I was terrifyed, not because of his constant spam of attacks but the actions he takes to do so, he essentially butchers living objects and brutally throws their once fearful remains at you all the while sporting a creepy grin as he does so, twisted doesn’t even begin to describe how crazy he is. Unlike the devil this is a man you didn’t expect to be so intentionally malicious after basically being your friend throughout the DLC. Glad he redeemed himself though.
No kidding. I screamed a little inside seeing the LIVING LIMES WITH FACES get BLATANTLY SLICED IN HALF like he was a FREAKING SERIAL KILLER. Not to mention, he SMASHES a sugar guy and blows his remains away nonchalantly. If that wouldn’t make him look like a sadist or scare the living CRAP out of you, I don’t know what will.
The Devil is cartoonish evil, he’s the devil so he must represent everything that is bad by virtue, Salt Baker on the other hand is much more grounded and his presentation makes him much more evil in comparison. Basically, one thing is being told that something is evil and the other more memorable thing is being shown how evil something is
honestly as menacing as chef saltbaker is in his evil form- the overall character development despite how semi-short this dlc is is profoundly positive.
@Otneimica I like villain redemptions, too. In fact, I have a Sonic Forces Fanfiction in which Eggman has doubts about his path of villainy, and redeems himself at the end, with the help of his daughter Virginia, Metal Sonic, and Sonic himself.
this boss actually worked better execution wise as a final boss than the devil not just in terms of difficulty but rather the atmosphere of the fight itself...the Devil felt too cartoonishly goofy but Saltbaker was absolutely terrifying in each phase even the music was more menacing.
Yeah, the fact that saltbaker was actively killing ingredients through the fight while the devil was just chilling in the back gives the chef a more sinister aura, that plus the final stage looks more hellish than the devil's hell.
@@Composty_lol felt too cliche really the him going big...just that nothing else...super underwhelming considering that the getting big gimmick is pretty much used in other fights.
@@infinitypeaches3329 Dark Matter is an entire species, not just a character. And all the other ones were killed, so they didn’t really have a chance to redeem themselves
Let's be real, we all expected a boss fight with Saltbaker in some way. I don't think we expected him to be a MURDEROUS LUNATIC, however. Seriously, his fight makes THE DEVIL'S boss fight look positively quaint.
@@CookieKaylie I'd like them to either make a Cuphead 2 or another dlc exploring more of the astral plane. I think it'd be fun if we could go inside the astral plane and do different boss fights. We might even could possibly see the devil in there
This guy is a terrifying boss. His attacks in the first stage are basically him butchering his ingredients and sending their remains at you. The second stage has you attacking him with PEPPER, the companion to SALT, which makes you wonder why they hate him so much. The third isn’t that scary, but it makes you wonder if he was sealed in that glass body for a reason. Also, you know, the fact that he attacks with what is essentially his innards
This is just pure art. I can't even imagine the amount of effort it took to animate all that crazy stuff and make it work smoothly with the gameplay, the devs really put their hearts in this bossfight and it shows.
@@tatarchan5212 And remember, all of the animation for Cuphead is hand drawn. In that perspective, this is nothing short of a masterpiece of art & animation.
I'll probably never actually play the game myself, but I'll admit the animation is phenomenal. You can tell the developers put their heart and soul into the production of this and the DLC.
"the developers put their heart and soul into the production of this and the DLC", by Cuphead logic, you're telling me they just rolled a head to complete the DLC ☠
It’s really a wholesome moment when the bad guy reflects upon his actions at the end by doing community service and becomes a good guy. Truly one of the greatest and happiest endings a person could ask for
I unironically love how the fight with Salt Baker is absolutely insane with him growing in size and cracking open to fight you with m essentially his own blood and then the cutscene after looks like they just had some scuffle that left him just slightly dazed
@@JBubba same reason why Daffy can be burned into a pile of ash and a pair of eyeballs and come back completely fine in the next scene. This game is all about cartoon logic.
Now I understand why they delayed the cuphead DLC. Totally worth waiting almost half a decade for. The animation is just amazing. If you compare this boss fight with the Devil’s boss fight, you can see how much the creators improved on animation, almost as if it’s a whole different game!
@@sandjaarx Weren't we talking about dlc development time? The dlc wasn't even thought of back in 2013-2017 where they were only focusing on adding as much as they can into the main game with the budget they have
The dlc was announced In 2019, so we only had to wait 3 years for it. That's a pretty typical wait time, considering how long it takes games to come out these days.
We also have different animations before and after the boss, in function who’s captured. This is how we can unlock the endings: Trapped Cuphead: He was to have the cookie as the charm. Trapped Mugman: Same as Cuphead, but Mugman has to have the cookie instead of his brother. Trapped Mrs.Chalice (Yep, that’s possible.): None of the characters have the cookie as the charm.
It’s nice seeing a villain be redeemed through hard work in the end. He did something bad, but he’s not like the devil. He just let power go to his head.
@@ericbabcock3206 He made a recipe to control the galaxy and it needs a living soul! What would you blame him for if he’s already ok with killing food? Probably the same to him.
The Final Boss Being Saltbaker is terrifying. him literally killing the fruits. Stealing the strawberries. Breaking himself off. It also felt sad that the last boss is your trusted chef. making you felt sorry for him after his lost. and the credits showing that he asks for mercy because he just follows what he knows. I'm glad that he redeemed himself and learning the goods from others. Becoming a true friend who makes best desserts alive.
Everyone's talking about Saltbaker... but honestly, I just can't get over how wholesome the final chat between Chalice and the boys is. "Who needs a Wondertart when they can have two new best pals instead!" 🥰
Reasons why I love this fight so much: 1. He is so well animated and smooth 2. He actually uses the ingredients from previous bosses to attack you 3. They made him look SO menacing 4. I love how ominous his third phase is where you can see his glass body in the back 5. I love how each transitions between each attack and how well tied up they are
Yeah kinda but he probably didn’t as you still have to use the charm it’s probably a on purpose error to show they were all happy as that stuff happened in cartoons
This DLC’s boss-fights are practically perfect Interesting gimmicks SUPER WELL ANIMATED, LIKE WOW THE FINAL PHASE OF HOWLING ACES IS TOP TIER Designs are fantastic, we even see the return of the unused spider in Moonshine Mob This DLC is perfect for a game of this style
The way that there’s literally 3 cinematics before the boss and 3 others after the boss (Two for each character, because all of them can be trapped.) is crazy!
I am Chef Saltbaker I have been a naughty crook The recipe was in my book The recipe was overcooked I should not have let All of that power go to my head Now I'll bake for good Now I'll bake my bread (Whistle interlude) I have learned my lesson I have learned my lesson well It's better to bake in Heaven Than to cook in Hell I'm still the best tart baker Best tart baker in the land My baking will bring cheer To my new friends whom I hold dear
Quick little thing here: Saltbaker’s betrayal was foreshadowed at the start, when he mentions that the secret to combat, like baking, is the heart and SOUL.
Fun fact: of the DLC’s roughly 4 year development: 3 years were dedicated entirely to the animation of Chef Saltbaker. …okay, that might not be true, but with this animation quality? It certainly feels like it!
I mean, considering they were influenced by those old 1930s cartoon, they also brought the creepy aspects with them into the game as well. So it is to be expected.
I know I guess when they say looks can be deceiving looks can really be deceiving in this case he comes off as a really cool as early as a really chill as a really cool Baker and it’s kind of messed up the fact that they are but they pretty much treat him as a friend in the end even though he Murdered innocent ingredients
At the End, the Chef SaltBaker learned his lesson and had time to redeem himself, that is the REAL concept of redemption, SaltBaker responsibilized from his evil deeds and now he is helpfull to society, and i thought that he was one of the Devil's henchmen
So he used all the ingredients we collected from the bosses to defeat us, The Lime from Esther Winchester, The Sugar Cubes from Mortimer Freeze, The Dough from the Moonshine Mobs, The Berries from the Glumstone the Giant, And the Mint from the Howling Aces.
The villains are so much scarier in this DLC. It doesn’t have the same “yes this guy is evil, but he’s also kinda cute and cartoonish” vibe as the original. Not that it’s a bad thing. But it’s a cool new choice, and I can’t place my finger on what exactly it is that makes these new bosses look creepier, because I know it’s the same animation style
I had my suspicions he was gonna be a villain, but he kinda creeped me out with those eyes and he really made that final boss battle with him to be such a memorable part of the game for me. I also like he was able to redeem himself and showed the difference between him and the devil. Basically, this DLC was fantastic all around and this boss fight was the cherry on top of it all, showing everything amazing about this DLC and game in one battle.
Weirdly enough, in the last picture of the epilogue all three cups are fully corporeal. Maybe the chef found out that the true key to the wondertart was, well, hard work and practice? I mean, that IS the key to my renowned apple pie. Sure, it may not bring the dead back, but I and my friends like it...
I think one the hardest things I found in fighting this boss is trying to focus on the objects coming at you everywhere when Saltbaker's mutilating those helpless sentient ingredients in the background. It was very hard not to look at the limes trying to run away just before their tops are lopped off, or the sugar cube's innocent face before he's shattered into particles. This may have been intentional on the design team's part, and if so, well played... but yikes. Incidentally though, I managed to get an *A+* on Saltbaker last night when I beat him for the first time! Granted it took me many, many tries to finally win, and I wasn't even trying to do a perfect run, but did it anyway. Plus I did it with Cuphead himself rather than Ms. Chalice, and I normally *suck* at this game, so it was kind of a big deal for me.
5:41 Does anyone see how Chalice does have a physical body right here, meaning that it's likely that she finally got something to get her a physical body and not just stay as a spirit.
???? : so, i've got a question for ya. do you think even the worst person can change...? that everyone can be a good person, if they just try? Saltbaker: umm..... Maybe sure.
It took a very long time for this DLC to come out, and boy was it worth the wait. The animation in this is incredible, it literally feels like a direct sequel to Cuphead rather than a DLC.
@Otneimica robotnik has gone mad searching the 2nd chaos emerald after finding all of the 7 shards from the 1st one, he discovers at the end he needs the heart and spikes from a rare blue hedgehog species in mobius island.
@Otneimica this is why he wants to get sonic, also with 2nd chaos emerald i meant 5 not chaos emeralds (power quartz) and 7 shards of the chaos emerald, he puts the heart in the secret stone, it breaks a bit and then the 2nd chaos emerald falls, its part of a bigger rock that only wakes up with the heart
OMG! What a masterpiece. It's so smooth and beautiful. Just like a old animations of Disney. It's breath taking. I really like it. I hope there will be more wonderful DLC. Maybe even Cuphead 2 game.
Studio MDHR not only reached a crowing achievement with Cuphead they did it again with The Delicious Last Course. I applaud everyone behind this game. 12 years of Hand drawn animation is no easy task. They did the impossible, they caught lightning twice.
Chef Saltbaker was indeed the finest chef in all the lands, but behind his friendly façade laid an obsession. To use his culinary skills to control the Astral Plane itself. In his mind, to be one with life and death would make him nothing less than a God. But for all his baking prowess, he could never achieve his goal without the right ingredients, and especially without the secret ingredient; a living soul. And yet by chance, a living soul would end up finding him! The Legendary Chalice had heard of his talent, and sought him out to help her become a living being again. She even brought up that she knew a couple of mugs who could aid him with whatever needed to be done. Faster than a kitchen timer going 'DING', the Chef knew from there exactly what he needed to do in order to create that delicious last course.....
Had a strong feeling since the very first trailer that Saltbaker would be a secret villain. Oversiced cheff's in fiction are rarely good guys. Also... the fact that he's cutting up what is pretty much living and thinking creatures and using their remains as attacks... that's so dang creepy. The flawless animation only adds to it, really nails home certain things that can only be done with 2D
The fact I knew something was up with Chef Saltbaker because he was too nice and too friendly immediately set a red flag for me lol but it's awesome to see he redeemed and changed his ways through community service.
During the entire fight the charges he would have collected would be: -2 Charges of attempted murder on Ms.Chalice and trying to cook Cuphead -8 Murder charges on limes -1 charge of battery to crate of strawberries -1 murder charge on the sugar cube -Abuction on ms chalice(grapping here into the 2nd phase) After all of this.... HOW DID HE MAKE IT OUT WITH ONLY COMMUNITY SERVICE
Did anyone else notice how he puts a Mushroom in the style of Mario in his head to grow so big for his second phase? I'm in love with this game and it's hidden secrets 🤩
He's one of the few villains that actually redeemed himself for his crimes and felt disgust towards his own actions after some time, waiting 4 years for the DLC to come out was totally worth it
“CHEF SALTBAKER! For trying to rule the astral plane and become a god, I sentence you to COMMUNITY SERVICE “ L O G I C Also those animations are smooth af
Im not too shocked that hes the final boss Literally when the 1st trailer he was introduced in people immediately started speculating that he was the final boss 🤣
Can we talk about how horrifying him slicing the limes and breaking the sugar cube into pieces is? Like that sugar cube looks so innocent and he literally murders it to pieces.
@@fangamer2206 because 1. Joe Biden never allowed the trump administration access to the CVC 2. Because god is white just like salt and 3. Because pepper makes you sneeze
I know what you meant to say, but the context is so funny to me. "Too bad this chef got redeemed in the end, it would be real cool if he was a minion of Satan and suffered eternal damnation."
Studio MDHR is more Disney than Disney is nowadays. The animation quality is absolutely impeccable. I really wanted the Devil's boss fight to be more dynamic like this one. The dude literally just sits on his ass and cries lmao
5:41, I just noticed, in this final shot it shows all 3 cups alive, meaning in the end he baked the wondertart a second time and actually used it to bring Chalice back this time
He also manipulated three innocent people, kidnapped one of them (Even though Cuphead is kidnapped here, Mugman and Mrs.Chalice can be kidnapped instead.) and (Only if Cuphead or Mugman is captured.) almost separated Cuphead/Mugman from his brother!
Holy fucking shit did MDHR improve a lot in the DLC's animations. Comparing this boss fight with the Devil in the OG game really just makes your jaw drop. The wait was totally worth it.
Chef Saltbaker was a great twist villian. This could have been an out of nowhere twist that made no sense, but the writers made sure that his motivations made sense and they gave hints that he was going to be bad.
First phase: typical chef boss. Second phase: magic red mushroom, make my salty chef grow. Third phase: dancing salt. Fourth phase: slaty horrors beyond my imagination!!!!!
Can we just take a moment to appreciate the masterful and seamless transitions in the music? Like the change from first to second phase is nearly perfect
0:01 Saltbaker: "What, still here?" 0:07 Saltbaker: "Hand it over. That thing, your ingredients. For my Wonder tart." 1:12 Saltbaker: "Ahh, is this the taste? The taste of the Wonder tart?"
it was probably cuphead , mugman , and ms chalice who asked the judge for him to get community service . i dont think the judge wouldve been so easy on him if neither of them asked .
