I had a very similar issue. Not the same, but very close. I could not start the sim and it looked like some login issue. After searching the internet, I have found an advice, which worked. Maybe it will help you as well. Explanation was: Xbox live app (and service - not sure) is broken, it needs to be "refreshed" - reinstalled. And, probably even more importantly to clean up caches and whatever to completely log off and then get all back in. It went something like: log off from xbox live and from the MS store, uninstall xbox app, restart computer, log back into the MS store, install xbox app, login into it. Maybe there's one more restart before or after the xbox login. Then try to start the sim again. And maybe there was one more step, where the local MS store data had to be removed (cache) after the logoff and before the restart. Not sure about this. This worked for me. Maybe, it will help you as well.
This type of thing happened to me for over a year (2 years now). I haven’t flown it since 2022. I don’t really care since X-Plane 12 is my major simulator. But I want to experience MSFS and the new Bush flying it advertised a while ago. I loved flying in MSFS in Papua New Guinea because I lived there as a kid. I was excited that they were releasing new Papua New Guinea airstrips and scenery. When I can get to the main screen, the marketplace is grayed out. (Even after Every time I reinstall it) I keep updating MSFS 2020 hoping it will work but CTD every time for almost 2 years now. Even on my new computer of 3 months. I’ve reinstalled it so many times I can’t keep track. It was a virgin install on my new computer 3 months ago on an empty brand new 4 Gig SSD). Still crashes to desktop after I pick a destination airport on the global map. I love X-Plane 12 especially there MD-11, 747-200 classic the A340-600 and all the older aircraft I have bought over the last 10 years .
RU-vid auto deletes the instructions - I fixed this by opening a powershell, uninstalling gaming services then reinstalling it - you should be able to find this and give it a go
MS Store is such a failed piece of tech. It's hard to believe the same company manages to run XBOX. I've had the Windows MS store broken and failing to update any app several times on various systems in the past few years. Sometimes the only way to fix it was to just nuke Windows entirely, since none of the many "fix windows store app" guides fixed the issue. Best part is when that happened like a month after installing Windows freshly, because MS decided to force out another big but undercooked automatic update. At least I haven't had an update nuke all my user data... yet.
In the early days I had MSFS on my D drive and tried to move it onto my C drive and had a similar problem. Only when I reformatted the D drive did it go away. Don't know If there is some kind of revenue protection watermark installed but all OK now.
I went through a stage of not being able to get msfs to start at all, I think the thing that stopped this happening was making sure they install for msfs was on my c drive. If I installed it to anything else than my main drive the problem came back.
Hey, so this issue jsut happened to me right now. I tried uninstalling the xbox app on my pc and re installing it but it did not work. Then I went on the microsoft store app and logged off, and opened the task manager to close the xbox app and gaming services. Gaming services kept reopening by itself so I kept closing it about 3 times in a row. I reopened the xbox game app and finally I was already logged in. Then I logged in to the microsoft store app and launched msfs2020 and it worked. Let me know if it also works for you.
Msfs 2020 has been out of action for about five weeks. Tried all sorts of advice with the help of a friend and I’m still stuck on the opening splash screen. Basically I like flying planes and I’m not an IT specialist. This is so infuriating!
I have the same problem with the MSFS crashing on my Xbox X , I reset the game , left off 70 add- ons about half of what I own. I clean the cache after every game play. I am very careful about adding updates and add-on since I think they cause the crashes. I wish Microsoft would fix. All of this. Maybe the fix is to buy more storage . Any ideas ?
Happened to me tonight mate, restarted the pc a few times until it fixed itself. Took 3 turns. Also make sure gaming services is up to date from the windows store app
Where to begin? I’ve done multiple installs and the datasets are just so enormous, it’s always a last resort. But then you do an update and it asks you for an Installation CD?? What?? I feel you pain.
It really is a disgrace that nearly 4 years after launch people are still having major problems with this title. The fact that MS are planning a new release that they expect people to pay for without fixing the current version adds insult to injury.
I'm sorry GripperSim for your troubles. It's always something different with MSFS. I haven't seen this issue, started streaming bush flights 1 month ago on MSFS.
I had the same problem last week. I closed down my system twice and luckily it worked, I fired up again this morning only to find another update, but again it worked . In all I think the sooner Micrsoft get their act togetherthebetter. Instead of bringing out 2024 they should concentrate on the current aim and make it playworthy!!!!!!
Try temperately disconnecting the internet and then launch the sim. I've had network problems in the past and doing that allowed me to get into the sim every time. I just reconnected the internet after it loaded into the main menu. I suspect it's not a problem on your end. I doubt it will try to force you to login if you aren't online. FYI I am running the steam version so maybe there is a difference.
HI. I had this issue a couple of days a go. I tried resetting and the reinstalling the Xbox app and it did not work. I gave up. I then started MSFS 2020 the next day and it worked so I thought MSFT fixed something on their end. I then started up the sim again yesterday after watching this video and it did not work again. Same error. 😠 I started it today and it works. Not sure what is going on. BTW, love your videos!
Gripper, I'd stop and restart the Xbox live authentication service and see if that does anything. It would also be worth signing out and back in to the Microsoft store again (I know you've done that already). Other than that, try reinstalling the XBOX app entirely. I had a similar issue last year and the xbox service and app were responsible in that case. It doesn't sound like there is an issue with MSFS itself. Make sure to stop the service before removing the XBOX app and then reinstall it. The service should sort itself once you reinstall the app. I know you've referenced your IT background so you have probably done this stuff already! Good luck with it. I get crashes after updates 1/3 times. Usually they're loading errors were it freezes before getting to the main screen. That requires a task manager shut down of the app and then a control panel/apps/msfs/advanced options/terminate followed by a repair. I then reboot and most times it comes back to normal. It definitely feels like rolling the dice every time there is an update. You would think they could work on these issues a bit more thoroughly before releasing. Cheers and take a zen moment or two with the producer! We beasties make most things better :o)
I don’t want to jinx it but I’ve had no issues whatsoever with my sim. Every update has worked fine for me, no crashes or anything. I’m on the MS store version.
Since the last Caribbean update my performance just went down and I hardly use it. I uninstall it and install it again, then in a few days the performance issue return again. Been using xplane 11 and considering getting rid of msfs to buy xplane 12. Microsoft and Asobo better put their act together or many people will abandon their simulador.

The last problem i had was not letting me play it....what I did was remove Xbox and re-install it...I'm up now this week but don't know for how long. It really sucks it took an entire day to figure it out. Oh...before that it was the microsoft store showing me the game in my library...but it kept saying i didn't own it...so i had to reset the microsoft store thing (APP) with some command line crap i got from microsoft help.

I'm painfully close to knocking MSFS on the head and moving to XP12 as my main sim I have to admit. MSFS is still riddled with lots of annoying bugs a few years down the line. XP12 isn't perfect but, its a better experience for me so far.
XBox has always been a problem. I'm dead against the XBox program being the platform for MSFS2020. XBox MSFS2020 should be on its own and MSFS2020 for PC users should be a separate program set-up. It would mean two different programs (not counting the Steam Version) but I believe this would alleviate some of the major problems and allow separate development of each without interfering with the other. Microsoft just doesn't do well at getting their heads around things, which I find dumbfounding ... a company like that should be at the top of the game when it comes to the products they market ... but they fail in numerous ways across the board. It is time they did some shuffling within their company and got some people in who know what they are doing. A company should be proud of its name but given their poor performance I believe they should be ashamed.

my sim has been a ugly pos since after the very first update . Don't even want to fly it its so ugly . I have the 4090 also and it looks like crap . The update did not cause the issue you are having tho .
But it seems like an Xbox update issue. Working on finding out. BTW. You should not have been having "crap" issues as you describe. Are you in VR or screens. I have a 6 surround screen system with i7-12700K and 3080ti GPU. Smooth flying at 40-60fps on ULTRA for the top settings and high for most of everything else.

Once again Microsoft Store shows how competitive it is. At being the shittiest publisher store along with Epic games. Just use MS for Gamepass and Epic for the free games. And even that is still better than Sony's PSN. Because Sony actually used their "take away games/media you paid for, own and had installed on your system" button.
1- make sure you are logged in to Microsoft account, 2- make sure you are logged into Microsoft store, 3- make sure you are logged into xbox account ALL must be the same account, 4- make sure you video drivers are up to date, 5 - in Graphics Setting your "default graphic" is set to all ON 6 - game bar is ON, game mod is ON, 7 - Windows updates are up to date. 8- make sure you Hard Drives are good, this can cause issues. 9 - if reinstalling MSFS 2020 Makes SURE Your previous Install IS COMPLETELY DELETED from your HD. 10 - if you done all this and still can't get MSFS 2020 to install/work , You have TO REINSTALL WINDOWS. You have no other choice. Like I did.
