I saw my 3 year-old niece watching Ms. Marvel on her tablet and eating a Frozen 2 blueberry yogurt. This is the first time I've seen her watch anything MCU on Disney+.
My 4 year old loves “Spidey and His Amazing Friends” and I know that Black Panther and Ms. Marvel guest on that cute little show, so he recognized Ms. Marvel on the Disney plus thumbnail. I love these shows with broad appeal that bring in new audiences!
As a Pakistani raised in the US the family dynamics shown are the most on point and realistic depiction of my people I've ever seen in western entertainment, made laugh and want to cry seeing Kamala deal with all same issues my sisters and I dealt with growing congrats to Disney you did Pakistanis in America right!
When this first came out, I went to RU-vid to search for any reactors that identified as Pakistani American or Islamic, so I could see their opinions on how accurate they thought it was. A lot of them got very emotional to see the positive representation. I love it!
You guys thought this was slow? Most people have been in consensus that this is one of the most well paced marvel episodes to date. It had my attention from beginning to end. Also color, vibrance and energy does not mean made for kids. This show was not made for kids. Like many other things, it’s made to appeal to a broad audience and be more light hearted but that never means kiddish. New girl is not kiddish and it has a very light hearted tone. Scott pilgrim has a similar artistic style and that’s not made for kids either. Kids will love this yes, but so have and will adults.
@B.L. Alley preach! It’s such a unique and useful way to tell a story, giving each actor time and each story space to do a complete arc instead of rushing or dragging the narrative
Iman Velani who plays Kamala Khan is Exactly like her in real life. She is a lifelong Marvel fan of both the movies and the comics. And this is her first acting role ever!!!👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 Just watch her on Jimmy Fallon, Trevor Noah and GMA. She truly is Kamala Khan, she even dressed as her for Halloween 3 years before she got the part.
I really apprecriate shows like "Ms. Marvel" and films like "Turning Red," a lot of my White Friends in High School, never could understand like why my Dad was so strict and wouldn't let me do anything fun, Immigrant Parents are so paranoid, lol.
The fact that her parents are actually willing to compromise and dress up with her and make her a costume is actually kinda amazing and isn't talked about enough. They are actually trying to be supportive and engaging in her interests. I do get that she wanted some independence and her own time, but her shirking her parents' attempts to connect with her and reach a middle ground is also kind of sad, because I think as teens we often forget, especially with immigrant parents, how difficult it is for them to fit in as well and make a life for us. It's hard to really see that as a kid, but a perspective you kinda realize when you get older and become parents yourself. I also do get why her parents wouldn't want her out there at night in Jersey without some parental supervision.
She's a 16 year old Pakistani girl wanting to hang out at night in Jersey... as constricting as the parents are, I can totally see the more practical side of why they would be wary.
More broadly, what you forget as a teenager is just that your parents are people too - you see them as their role, not as human beings with their own flaws and fears that are also trying to navigate this complex, nuanced situation of you becoming an independent person. I totally get why Kamala blows up (at 16 the idea of going to something like that with your dad is arguably even worse than not going :) but they _were_ trying to compromise (albeit only after "favourite son" talked to them) so it's also easy to empathise with the hurt on her dad's face. The mother also seems to know more than she's letting on so as the show progresses I suspect we'll find out that her attitude is partly born of real fears based on actual experiences (as well as the more nebulous, arguably less justified "big bad world/cultural expectations" issues).
Tbh these are the only people I’ve seen who didn’t agree with the parents actions. Most people have been very exited to see her dad wearing the Hulk costume, but not recognize how her parents forcing themselves into an event she wanted to go to with her friends who are also fans would obviously get on her nerves, and how her parents not willing to listen after she immediately took her words back is really kinda shitty.
They're not that supportive. They're "engaging in her interests" is actually an extension of the fact that they don't trust her and aren't willing to give her any independence. She asked if she and Bruno could go, not her and her father. Also, they didn't even give her the courtesy of allowing her to choose her own outfit. Making her wear what she picked out and only allowing her to go with her father was very controlling. If they were that concerned with her safety, why not the father drop her and Bruno off and pick them up? I know her parents love her, but they are just as much fault here as Kamala is. Kamala should not have blown up at them though. She was wrong about that.
Interesting fact is that Bruno spent so much time working on Kamala's costume that he didn't have time to make one himself. He literally only wore lab gown.
"She asked and she completely ignored her." Welcome to The World of being the child of First Immigrant. My Dad used to do that to me, all the time in High School, he would ask me how my day was and he would quickly change the subject. 🙄
@@TheMovieCouple Which is why I wouldn't ask, or just straight up lie to my Dad, I lived in a Small Town, I'm in a Wheelchair, I was a Geek in High School, without a car, so what if I lied, it's not like I was missing out on much my Dad could ground me for.
Secret identities are the exception in the MCU, rather than the rule. It will be interesting to see if she keeps hers or is driven into the light as well. Right now it’s basically Daredevil, Spidey, and Kamala who have to maintain them. Everyone else’s face and name are known. Even the Guardians. Part of that is Scott, but I also bet the Guardians and Thor took a little while to blast off afterwards. A few days to get everyone together for Tony’s funeral, at least. And not bothering to hide themselves away.
Loved the No Way Home connection. I believe there are going to be a lot connection to Secret Invasion and of course the Marvels. Loved this first episode. Very well done.
I really enjoyed this episode - such a vibrant show. I thought the production of this show was great - such good casting, strong script, the amazing animations, excellent music (especially that song over the end credits). If this quality keeps up this may just be one of my favorite MCU properties.
That moment when she says Zoe is her embiggen power. And it’s a different take straight out of the comics. In the books, Kamala uses her embiggen arm to save Zoe in the Hudson River.
The pacing, comedic deliveries and the subtle nods of cultural alienation are interwoven so well in this first episode! Can't wait for the following episodes.
The Damage Control agents in the mid credit scenes were in No Way Home. The bearded guy was the one who was interrogating Peter Parker, MJ, Ned & Aunt May. They were also the ones who took over Vulture's cleanup operation in the beginning of Spider-Man Homecoming and it's their secure warehouse that Peter got stuck in.
The movie playing on tv while Kamala is telling her mom she has 4 days to figure out her future, is Scott Pilgrim vs The World which served as inspiration for the visual approach for the show.
Gods, that first episode was so good. I was laughing so much at her dad's costume I almost paused the episode so I didn't miss out on any dialogue. The only thing that disappointed me was we only got the one episode and have to wait a whole week for the next one. Oh well, Iman's been doing so many interviews I can just watch those to get me through.
The target audience is no more different than the demographic for Spider-Man, Scott Pilgrim or a John Hughes film. Adults can appreciate it. The representation was placed well.
I loved this episode. Very refreshing. Unlike anything we have seen so far. Great work Disney Plus!!! I am a grown man and this could possibly be one of my favorite series if they keep it up. Going to watch it again because my wife hasn't seen it yet.
I can't believe you didn't recognize the bearded agent from DODC. Not only was in No Way Home interviewing Peter, Ned, and MJ, but he was also featured in the first full trailer.
Growing up both Asian and brown, a superfan for all things geeky and Captain Marvel, Kamala is the most relatable character in the MCU to me by far, and I love it so much! Reading her comics since the beginning, Iman Vellani definitely nailed Kamala's character so beautifully.
I'm 57, white, and a dude, but I think it was the best pilot episode of ANY Disney+ series (and I've watched all the Star Wars AND Marvel shows thus far).
I wonder if Matt Murdock will show up to protect another young adult from the government or even She-Hulk as the leader of the law firm representing super-powered people.
Iman grew up a huge ms marvel fan. Cool that she got this role. Extensive knowledge of the marvel universe. Movies, shows and comics. Watch her take the pop buzz quiz. She nailed it. Impressive
The guy in the end credits was the same guy who interrogated Peter Parker and his friends, in No Way Home. He's part of the same group that confronted Adrian Toomes (Vulture) in the beginning of Homecoming.
Sorta shocked y'all didn't recognize DoDC Agent Cleary from No Way Home, after he spent so much time interrogating Peter, Ned, and May. Dude makes an impression. ;)
I loved this 1st episode. I am wondering if agent Cleary is a from a sleeper kree faction or a skrull that might be bad(that we havent seen yet) He seems very sus
The end credit scene that guy was in no way home interviewing/questioning peter parker & crew. As for the actress in that credit scene i like her, really enjoyed her on if I'm not wrong orange is the new black
Fun fact: AvengerCon takes place at the old army base where Steve Rogers trained. I don't think the show is targeted at younger audience, I think it's targeted at Marvel fans.
Dept of damage control. We saw them in spiderman 1 taking the job away from vulture ave again in spiderman 3 when that exact agent interegated Peter Mj and Ned
Hell yeah!!! Ms. MARVEL is way better than the first 3 episodes of NAOMI!!! Talk about being an awkward teenage with caring and yet embarrassing parents...
I LOVED how you two talked over like 80% of the dialogue in this episode... No really, it was GREAT :D:D Also, the editing... Such a GOOD choice to NOT include all the Easter-eggs and references!
When you look at Kamala you see someone who is in her imagination rather then in the real world. It is easy to see why her parents do not entirely trust her decisions, especially her mother. The girl literally crashed 2 cars just taking her driving test, and then a couple of days later asks to go to a Con unescorted. How far would you trust someone to be mature and sensible after watching all the things Kamala does? She comes off closer to 13 then 16, IMO. When I look at 15 year old Peter in Homecoming and 16 year old Kamala in this, the maturity of the characters is night and day different. Peter was still young and inexperienced but he was not non-present to the world around him. I guess some of that is because Ms. Marvel is targeted to a younger audience. I like the show, especially the cultural and societal aspects of it, but I would have preferred a more Homecoming approach.
I don't get the focus on the age of the character as if it is going to be too young for the MCU. Kamala Khan is 16 years old which is a year older than Peter Parker in Homecoming AND 2 years older than Miles Morales in Into the Spider-Verse
I know kamala wanted to be capt. Marvel but she could've at least warm up to the idea and if she did them a solid, they would do the same. However, it shows that both are not seeing eye to eye and hopefully they come together in the end in one form or another. Still, better parents than yolanda's from stargirl
You're wrong Wendy about the targetted audience. Just on RU-vid alone you will see older people enjoy and can relate to these type solutions, especially first generation immigrants. There's no real target audience because if a story is good then people regardless of age will watch it. Everyone can relate to this
Finally your reaction to this. Been waiting for it for two days. Why do people put down shows if it looks like a younger show? It's rediculous. Also, sorry it didn't seem slow. I thought moved pretty quickly. Lastly, I think you should react to this first before Obi-Wan because this is a better show. Sorry.
It's not a put down. We mean it that since Kamala is a young character, the vibe of the show is younger. It may also do it to target a younger audience in the same age bracket as Kamala. By no means that its only made for kids. We watch animated shows like Clone Wars, Rebels, She-Ra and etc. Finally, thanks for your patience. Our schedule has been insane this week and we've barely been home to start the edit on this one.
@@TheMovieCouple I said people are doing that. The concept is reactions. I am older and i love ms Marvel show. I just look forward to your reactions on Wednesday.
Thank you! This is not a kid show, the only thing that’s a “kid show” is pbs kids or disney jr stuff, everything else is made for a broad audience. Yeah it might be more accessible to younger people then other shows but that doesn’t make it just for kids
@@nicholasgarcia6099 you’re so right it is sexism but YES MY GIRL KAMALA GONNA STAY THERE IF ITS THE LAST THING I DO! I do hate the reviewers trying to review bomb it when it is painfully obvious they didn’t even watch the show
Rocket and nebula were working with avengers for the entirety of the blip and even tho the rest were only there for a small time, they were still present and around new Asgard at the end of endgame. Also they explained that scott langs podcast explained a lot of things other people wouldn’t have seen.
A little boring as a first episode, interesting choice to release only pilot episode but not two episodes from the start like other shows. Still I like what they're doing with this show. Targeting younger audience is clever on the long run.
