Part 2: • Ms. Pat on Being Groom...
Comedian Ms. Pat, known for the "Ms. Pat Show" and stand-up special "Y'all Want to Hear Something Crazy," recently opened up about her tumultuous upbringing. Born and raised in Atlanta, Ms. Pat revealed she was raised by a single mother in her grandfather's illegal liquor house, where he sold alcohol and operated a small backroom prostitution ring. Ms. Pat's childhood was marked by unconventional and often dangerous experiences. At just eight years old, her mother coerced her into pickpocketing drunk patrons who passed out in their house, marking Ms. Pat's grim initiation into criminal activities. She described how they would wait until the men were fast asleep before carefully extracting their wallets.
Season 4 of "The Ms. Pat Show" is currently streaming on BET+. New episodes of Pat's court show "Ms. Pat Settles It" are also currently airing on BET. And her new "Hot and Flashy" standup tour just went on sale. Go to www.MsPatComedy.com for show and ticket info.

its wild to me that so many people dont understand what, "you betta leave me alone" means. ESPECIALLY from an old school person. It'a basically a verbal contract in which you agree to accept any repercussions that result from you violating said agreement. If an older person said this to me, and i continued to antagonize and got my teeth knocked out, i would completely feel responsible. Obviously this is a slippery slope if taken out of context or imposed on things like right to consent or spousal abuse but c'mon. In the south, asking someone to leave you alone first before reacting is about as polite as you can ask someone to be. Grandad sounds like a reasonable individual haha

For some odd reason, we as black people tend to normalize dysfunction and abuse. Beating someone with an extension cord is beyond cruel and unusual punishment. We've been oversexualized and kids seeing certain adult things isn't normal either. The amount of wear and tear it puts on the brain is irreversible in certain situations. I'll admit that a lot has been thrown at us but we still have to operate in a civilized way. I grew up in the inner city with not much but I can say that I was ever beat with extension cords...
