MicroSquirt here on stock wiring harness, Got a buddy using MegaSquirt running late model explorer coil packs instead of a dizzy. He doesn't use a cam sensor, so his dizzy hole is just plugged but the explorers used a cam sensor that mount in the stock 302 block dizzy hole. so if you switched to coil packs you could go that route.

Get a hold of haltech. Their ECUs truly control fuel and ignition, and will work with you on making their ecu work for your application.

does the MSD digital 7 support coil on plug ? if it does then just use an Explorer 5.0 cam sync sensor to replace the distributor ( drop in replacement) and run some MSD remote coil packs on each cyl .

I have a dual sink distributor from accel. I used the cam sink function in it but unwired the other and wired it to my crank sensor. Im still running the old gen 7 dfi . Happy Easter god bless do work son

used accel Gen 7 on old shop drag car at place I worked and we used a dual sync distributer it will give u a cam and crank trigger and come with instructions on how to synch it , not too hateful, if u setup a crank trigger already they have a hall effect distributer where it would only be a cam trigger hope my info helps

This is exciting with the 7 box. Looking forward to wire by wire install. You don't got to worry about getting it done and chance breaking something. Plus I haven't seen people over there helping you bang it out. I am the same way. At least when it's running and driving you know everything on that car and won't take long to tune it to it's fullest potential without worrying about blowing it up. Believe me I am a GM guy but I give the Goose the tuff remark. I like it so far. Probably the only Mustang I have to admit I like.

Man your making it hard. I was in the same boat as you but I contacted Chris with pro m. I bought there management system and coil on plug. They have a harness that plugs into factory sensors and all that for a fox. I'm telling you it was so easy to setup and you use your factory distributer as a cam and crank signal. They make a trick cap to put on top of your distributer. There harness is a factory harness to so check them out and return all that crap. 1 coil is not enough for eight cylinders coil on plug is where it is at and it is complete bolt up kit

i just finished build a fully sequential Fuel and Spark on my 70 Mopar. i used MS3X. you should be able to take your ECU use the points wire off of that and tie it to your MSD 7 box should be the white wire. you say you have a crank trigger what kind if it a msd 4 magnet then hook the MSD7 to that. if i had to guess you have a 36 tooth missing 1 you can't hook the MSD7 on that. the MSD will have to get it signal command from the ECU. as far as your distributor is concerned i would look at your what your ECM want for a signal because most dizzys are electromagnetic they have a sensor that activities when a steel tooth sweeps by. most cam sensor are halls affect has a magnet in front of the sensor a steel plate runs between the magnet and the sensor interrupting the magnetic field. all the ECU is looking for is a timing location on the cam. you should be able to knock off all the teeth but TDC #1 and tell the ecu it a single signal on TDC 1. also the dizzy has to be locked so it not trying to advance.

Doing work flexing my brain 🐰 question: I'm putting in a messed up radiator brace and needing a check measurement so that it's not too high or low where the hood comes down-as I watch your video- from the center line of the box frame up to the top of the brace on both sides, they should be the same measurement. 64-bit tuning concepts makes a complete drop in cam sync sensor that will support a distributorless ignition if you wanted to run something along those lines. Coil on plug is nice if that EFI and ignition box will support it, would make for nice tuning tool for that twin turbo monster. You could run something like the truck LS coil packs and they support around 1000whp

+The Fab Forums Kyle, are you sure about that? According to MSD the 7531 does not support coil-on-plug. Big Stuff supports multiple coils and coil-on-plug but not in conjunction with the MSD 7531.

That wiring looks amazing man! Good stuff. I made a relay board based on the one you made a video of! at 6:04 in this video, what did you use to bridge all the connections on the block. They are red or wrapped in red tape. Is that just copper cut up to shape?

Definitely I agree about the speech. Truth be told and I am way worse, I get all the way out of control with doing more upgrades but, it's great having part's that have to be installed then not having the part's at all and sitting around doing nothing. You already know I want to see the full wiring of the 7 box. Love the additional electric work. Don't cover it all up maybe you can put plexiglass glass, I am sorry but the wiring would be a crime to hide. You know like the clear amps. Just a suggestion. I think it's a must or the N.E.C. is going to pull you over and make you reveal all that wiring. Seriously I feeling like it would be a great car show car and don't stand around it just put cameras so you can see people's reactions to the wiring alone. That is it I am getting more thorough now. You just stepped the game up. Beautiful work. I am scared for you to finish it because your going to be driving it to much and not pumping out more awesome installs.

This could be a dumb question because I can see that you are budgeting the distributor idea, but what about a crank trigger added to the distributor? Could you make that be noticed as a cam sync? Or something of the sort since the sync is a single signal per rotation.

+Jake Craig no the cam rotates half as fast as the crank so it only triggers every other rotation. It has to be done on the distributor. The car already has crank trigger.

Another good video Kyle. Ok, so I have an MSD Power Grid that needs to be wired up...and IT IS STUMPING me. Do you have any experience with that? Basically, there are "loose" wires that need to be terminated to something. I have the instructions; they say to supply 12 volts to the [specific] wire in order for x to happen. Okay, I get that. But, how do I supply 12 volts and make x happen - what should the wiring actually look like? For example, LAUNCH requires 12 volts. MSD says to connect that wire to the trans brake. If that one wire terminates to the trans brake, how do I supply 12 volts to it? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

From what I understand of what the instructions say, a standalone IPU (inductive pickup) distributor allows for sequential injection but not fuel phasing. According to the instructions you will need to modify the reluctor to take advantage of "fuel phasing" (individual cylinder injector control). bigstuff3.com/pdf/Ignition%20Guide%20rev%201.2.pdf . The 7531 box is a great box. I've installed them many times. Use the appropriate coil (8261). To use individual cylinder timing with a distributor setup and that box, you will need to install an MSD 7555 fiber optic sync to the 7531 box. Without it you cannot use individual cylinder timing. The big stuff requires a coil on plug setup with a modified reluctor distributor and crank trigger to use the built in cylinder timing control.

You will also need to get a phaseable rotor. You can get the phasing close without one but you can get it dead on with one. I always drill a 1/4" hole between the coil terminal and number one terminal to be able to put a timing light set on zero to make sure the rotor is firing on number one terminal. The reason for the phaseable rotor is to be able to put the reluctor where it needs to be and have the rotor fire on number one. They don't always line up.

The pickups in the older stock electronic ignition Ford distributors are the same ones that MSD uses. It's an inductive pickup. The ones in the TFI 5.0's are hall effect pickups. I would bite the bullet and buy an MSD and modify it. You can buy a rebuilt one for a 1985 5.0 and modify it but it doesn't lock out like an MSD and you need to lock the vacuum advance too, but they are only around $50 www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/ford,1985,mustang,5.0l+302cid+v8,1430161,ignition,distributor,7108 . The hall effect is a voltage based signal, when the shutter blade is between the magnet and hall switch the voltage is high and when it's open space the voltage is low. I think the inductive is a resistance based signal.

It crank trigger so the dizzy doesn't do anything but transfer the spark

Coil on plug has the added benefit of reducing the workload of the coil by 8x, and not leaving you stranded from a single coil failure. I would imagine there is a learning mode or programmable setting for the cam reference position. That said in my experience on factory systems it is usually trigger with #1 at TDC before the power stroke.

Measure from engine side between battery tray and radiator brace C/L of box rail straight up to top edge perpendicular, the other side should match by the smog box area. T I I I 🔳

I know a guy who builds his own CAS setup that fits inside the stock distributor for distributor-less system using megasquirt. Hit me up if your interested. Not sure that exact setup would work for you but maybe dude can help...

I have a MSD 8582 distributor that I am willing to let go for cheap that has already been converted over to a cam sync and it has a bronze gear. Let me know if you're interested. I will let it go fairly cheap

Your EFI setup is kinda oldish. I would've gone fully sequential with an all in one computer. Ecumaster Black or MS3, also way cheaper!

It can do full sequential spark and fuel. It also has trans, pumps, boost, and fan controls built in. It can control up to 16 injectors along with an e85 sensor for auto conversion. Also has tons of data logging features. driveshaft, turbo shaft, oil pressure, fuel pressure, g-meter, traction control...... along all kinds of other stuff

lol... I have used both of the ones you have listed and still chose what I have. The worlds fastest street car at drag week last year (Lutz) was using BigStuff along with tons of others. They all do the same thing.

There is nothing wrong with big stuff. It's a great ecu, it doesn't matter what system you run there only as good as the person on the laptop. I've tried several different systems. Right now im using an antique aem ems it does more than enough. It's just a pain in the ass to tune. Im sure Kyle will be more than satisfied with the big stuff.

The Fab Forums I have heard the bigstuff is a nightmare to tune. Especially with racing. Datalogs are only saved for 30 minutes and a lot of little weird things you have to do with data logging and things.

yeah....Lutz is the fastest street car on the planet if you judge by Drag Week What it comes down to for me is this car is gonna be a driver not a race car and the BigStuff will do everything I need. Is it the absolute best thing on the market right now...? I dont know, but I do know it has more feature than I will ever need. (and I already have it)

don't spring clamps they suck. or at least the ones 1990 Mazdas (and Fords I'm assuming) used sucks. the ones on my Acura are pretty decent but they are still a pain. worm clamps are much better.
