You explain your tutorials in such a way that makes it so easy to understand! I love them so much! Thank you! Once the G1000 NXi matures more, could you please make a full flight tutorial using it for different types of approaches like RNAV, ILS, Visual, etc? I would love to watch a complete from A to B tutorial on how to setup, fly and land all those supported approaches by the NXi.
Thank you! Absolutely! I’m planning to do an ILS video similar to the RNAV one I did, and will also eventually show how to program the G1000 manually once the ATC and NXi sync changes with each other. You can check out the RNAV approach video here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-C-nlNQYdx9c.html
Yes, it would be so great if you did a flight using OBS Mode as well as the visual approaches. Thank you so much for all your work. You are a great teacher.
Absolutely! The NXi will actually ultimately become the default, built-in G1000 in MSFS. The team making it is doing amazing work and I look forward to every update.
This and the other related videos are among the best available anywhere on explaining the functionalities and use if the G1000Nxi. The presentation style, voice modulation and video editing are simply the best. Thank you very much.
Because I had to look it up: OBS stands for Omni Bearing Selector. Pressing it sort of converts the current waypoint into a virtual VOR with 360 radials coming out of it. You can then choose which radial to follow using the course setting. Will probably come in very handy.
Kip, you are the best. I don't know if you are a teacher but you ought to be. You explain things well. I notice now that I can't use the knob to go through my flight plan. This is very frustrating. Also, my flight plan starts with the airport I'm going to and it gives total miles. My plane, while in autopilot, wants to then fly straight to the destination airport and not follow my flight plan. I then cannot use the knob to have it go to my first waypoint. I have to use Direct and type it in. Very disappointing unless I'm missing something.
Thanks! To enable the cursor to scroll through the waypoints in the flight plan, you need to press the FMS knob like a button (if you use the new "lock" interaction settings from Sim Update 5, you do this with a mouse by left-clicking and holding it, then right clicking). I'm not certain about all the other problems you're describing. I haven't run into major issues like that myself. Do you happen to have any other mods installed that might modify the G1000 and conflict with the NXi? Some third-party plane mods may even do this if they have G1000 improvements included with them. I run very few mods, and I think I tend to have fewer problems than most because of this. You could always try temporarily moving all your mods out to your Desktop temporarily and then see if it works properly for you. After that, you can bring them back 1 at a time to see which one is conflicting with it. Hope that helps a bit.
Why do I not see ANY OBS button? I see all these videos saying "click OBS," but I have no such option. What mode must I be in to get it to even show down there?
Great explanation as always, Kip. I'm still having issues with VNAV sometimes overflying the TOD. I noticed something strange that could possibly be the cause, and there's a chance it may be Xbox related... What I noticed happening, in certain aircraft is when hovering over the VNAV button, you can see it glitching out, it appears as if there's two VNAV buttons, right on top of each other... What are the chances that WT circumvented the old non-working VNAV by overlaying their own VNAV button? It could be that sometimes when I click the button, it is arming the old Asobo VNAV and that is why it isn't descending sometimes... It's a long shot and I doubt WT would have implemented it this way, unless they had to do some crazy workaround to get around an SDK limitation. Kind of like we're seeing with the people ALT nob at the moment, so it isn't unheard of. The C208 has a separate autopilot panel and does not show this button glitching behaviour. I'm going to do some testing to see if the VNAV works flawlessly in the Caravan.
Hello. Perfect explanations. But, the next question is not related with the topi, sorry. Can you tell me how to make work the blue and yellow color in the knobs without the names?? what configuration you have?
I use the new “interaction mode” that came out with Sim Update 5. If you changed back to “legacy” mode under the General/Accessibility options, you no longer get the blue/yellow highlighting. My settings are using “Lock” mode, but with the 2 tooltip options turned off.
Followed all the steps to change the Arrival airport as you outlined, when I got up to Enter new Destination and pressed ENTER the sim locked up, the buttons would actuate but had no effect. The PDF showed Straight iaf but the distance never changed, the airplane was frozen in place. Tried Active Pause to no effect. The flight controls were locked up also. I removed all the mods before this attempt to change the Destination.
Hmm. Hopefully we'll get an update today for the NXi, so if there is one, I'd give it another try with the newest version just in case you're running into some bugs somehow.
Once again, excellent explanations! On the relative traffic motion vectors map, it doesn't show where OUR plane will be in the specified amount of time, right? Wouldn't that be useful visual information?
Correct. It’s only for other traffic, but based on both our course and speed, and their courses and speeds. There is another setting called “Track Vector” which is what you’re describing, but it’s not implemented yet. It was added to the G3000 mod, so we can expect it in the NXi eventually, too!
Just wondering if I missed something: in the flight plan, how do you traverse the waypoints - it seems the knob that used to do it is now doing something else.
Enable the cursor by pushing the FMS knob. If you're using the new "lock" interaction style (that was introduced in Sim Update 5), you do this by holding the left mouse button, then clicking the right mouse button).
I've been trying to figure out the visual approaches, but can't really get it to work in a predictable way. I can't seem to figure out the difference between the 'VECTORS' option and the 'STRAIGHT' options. and I also don't know why sometimes we get the pink arrow for VNAV which is then followed separately by a diamond? I've tried adding a visual approach en-route, but I really have to be lined up already or it often misses the airport! It seems to work essentially like OBS at the moment with an added (and very useful) VNAV guidance
"VECTORS" is for use when ATC is going to be "vectoring you" (giving you headings to fly) to line you up with the final approach course. "STRAIGHT" will automatically plan a route that puts you on that final approach course. It's similar to how using "vectors to final" works when using other approaches.
So downloading the mod from the marketplace CTD when I powered on my TBM 930 last night. I'm confused as to why this mod conflicts with the tbm 930. They have two separate Garmin systems, although I'm using the g3000 mod and the improvement mod for this aircraft.
Any insights into why my MFD knob no longer lets me scroll through the flight plan line items to select one to go direct to? It only operates the new pagination feature this video covers.
May I ask; with regards the traffic map; I dont see any other players, or indeed any other aircraft on the traffic map. Which aircraft groups are actually shown ? Is it just computer generated traffic ? Thanks :)
It seems almost random for me. Last night I only saw multiplayer traffic and was getting no live traffic at all in the sim. Not really sure what’s going on :(
If you mean the panning function, yes, I’m sure we’ll eventually get it! I think that’s the second most popular thing people ask about, OBS mode being the first, which now we have!
Is there a difference between the implementation of this update between the PC and the Xbox versions? I am on the Xbox and the images that you show to demonstrate new functionality do not appear. I tried deleting and reinstalling update 6 to no avail.
I finally figured it out. I just needed to only turn the FMS dial to activate the menu inset. I had thought that I needed to select the MENU button in order to activate.
Sorry for the late reply, but I did actually check with the WT team on this last week and they said the NXi version in the Marketplace should always be the same on Xbox and PC. They aren't aware of there being any lag time or anything for Xbox to get the updates.
It’s part of the new “cockpit interaction model” in the General/accessibility settings. If you switched back to legacy, you won’t get the highlighting.
Hey KIP I'm not a gamer but am SEL Instrument Complex rated. Not Interested in the Scenery aspect of MSFS but more seeing the approach lights at the end of the runway at 200 & 1/2. I've watched your channel and Discord for a while now. What good would MSFS 2020 be to me when I see all the Malfunctions and Inops of the different Navigational radios associated with MSFS?
First, if using AP, sync the heading bug and switch to HDG mode while replacing the flight plan, so any changes don't cause an unexpected turn. Open the FPL, then enable the cursor by pressing the FMS knob, then press MENU. Rotate the outer FMS knob to highlight "Delete Flight Plan" and press ENT. Now you'll have an empty flight plan. Press PROC and then use Select Approach. The Airport field will be highlighted since we now have no destination set. Enter the new destination airport, press ENT, then select the visual approach you want. Then highlight Activate at the bottom and press ENT. Now the IAF ("STRGHT") will be your active waypoint. Go back to AP and switch into NAV mode. If needed, change the HDG to fly towards the new course so NAV mode can become active. Let me know if any of that doesn't work for you :-) This is based on how the NXi 0.6.0 works, so there may be some improvements later that make this easier. But the main thing is that we need to replace the destination waypoint before we can choose an approach for that new destination.
@@KipOnTheGround thanks and u answered another baffling thing about the nav mode, it wont work unless you are close to the course.. i thought it was a bug
Ah, yep, it’s a change that was made in the 0.5.0 update. I cover it in that video if you want a longer explanation and demo :-) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-fA2tDXZx1s0.html
