Is the reason you were on unicom on takeoff airport because in real life it was not a towered airport... if it was you would have contacted boston centre for taxi and takeoff?
Arnaud: It's because he's not going into PVD (the approach controller in question), the circle displayed by VATSpy doesn't actually correspond to the airspace controlled by an approach controller, it's just there to indicate that the approach airspace is staffed. If he was going to PVD that would probably be the correct move anyway, though, and if PVD couldn't provide service then they'd kick you over to center until center handed you back. If you ever contact the wrong controller on VATSIM they'll get you pointed in the right direction.
