You should get it. I have the cheaper i7 6 cores and 2070 super. It runs cooler than the i9 model due to having less cores to cool and the i9 runs hot by nature. The 2070 super is just as fast as the 2080 Max Q design.
@@musclehead1992 Thats true man. And the 2080 super has low watt power so it wont be much of a differnce between them.I am planning to buy one with 2070 super
@@anarki_in5680 see if this was an older ge I would 100% agree with you but I went into microcenter yesterday and the difference surprisingly wasn't that much
chameleonfps If there wasn’t enough differentiation between the GE and GS series, MSI would can the GS series. Don’t be mistaken, this competes against GS, although I do admit they’ve improved on the GE series a lot since the GE63, it’s a lot more modern looking now.
Manufacturer while testing the thermal capabilities of a laptop be like "Tested at the hottest temperature near volcano and coolest temperature near Antarctica" 🤣
Am i the only one watching his reviews for his calming voice?? I know i cant afford it but his voice is so nice calming and I stay for that sole reason
Been waiting patiently for the full review of the MSI GE66, hope it'll come soon! I'm also hoping that you can get your hands on the Triton 500 (2020) so that I can finally decide between these two laptops. As usual, good work, Jarrod!

I bought the RTX 2070 I7th 10th gen version of this laptop yesterday and oh my god! What a machine absolutely Breathtaking visuals and the performance is on another level I paid £1500 uk and I’m over the moon with this machine! Highly recommended.
Got yourself a good deal there. I couldn't find anything to match it. I've ended up going with the new Helios 300, hopefully it's half decent for it's price it's coming tomorrow. 🎉💻
I seriously like your "no-nonsense" way of reviewing, it's very precise and to the point! Saving everyone's time! And yes this is a beast of a system! Anyone's dream machine!
Even though Intel supposedly locked undevolting on their new comet lake H chips, hats off to MSI for letting us use the “cheat code” in order to undervolt.
No offense but my legion 5Pi with i7 10875H still performs better I get 74°C on average with the same AIDA64 stress test during 15 minutes and max 85°C that's hit when the cpu run with 107W short boost TDP and on average i get 4.1Ghz on all cores and min is 3.9 Ghz on 6 cores and 4GHz on 2 cores, it's incredible! No cooling pad only -0.075V on the cpu. I'm still waiting for popular reviewers to review THAT HIDDEN JEWELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL
Jarrod you're my favorite person to watch when it comes to laptops as I'm very new to this. I'm trying to find a good laptop to play games with, right now I'm thinking I want the Acer Helios 300 but if you know something at a similar price that runs better I'm all ears. Anyway thank you for the reviews it's so easy to listen to understand and follow even to someone like me, you deserve more subscribers. Have a great day man!
Depends if Acer ever send it over, they told me they had none for me and then today on twitter they retweeted a sponsored video from a streamer they send it to 🤨
Hey Jarrod! Really loving those thermal reviews, just top notch! Do you think it's possible to review some Dell's Precision 15 inch lineup, like the 7550? Keep up with the great work!
I almost regret purchasing the GS66 over the GE66, since COVID has everyone at home anyway, I wouldn't mind the extra thickness and weight. Also that 105W vs 80W Max Q GPUs...
Give me advice please I can't still choose msi laptops First - MSI GE66 raider RTX 3070 8GB 1080 full hd ips 240hz ram: 32gb ssd: 1tb . intel core i7 10750h Second - MSI GP76 Leopard RTX3070 8GB 1080full hd ips 144hz Ram: 16gb ssd:512gb intel core i7 11800h First MSI GE 66 costs 2500 $ second gp76 cost 2400$ Point using laptop is for gaming. I am going to use laptop at home mostly. If I go to travel somewhere of course I will use my iPad for only watching movies while I'm in airplane or train, if i play games while flying in airplane with 17 inches I may not have enough space at passengers seat and for sure battery won't be enough if I plan to play games. So about laptop I'm stuck with ge66 for only that screen has a 240hz and with ssd memory also ram memory which higher than gp76. About GP76 main reason that stops me to buy that screen 144hz and Korean letter keyboard and of course it has a English words too on it, in addition positive side about gp76 is only 11th gen CPU but ram and ssd I can upgrade if I really choose gp76 . Sorry for my English and thank you for your attention
So with cooler boost and under volt+cooling pad, the GE66 does quite a fair bit better than even the Eluktronics Mech G3 especially on the GPU. Temps in the 50’s for GPU and low 80’s CPU on stress test is great!
Jarrod'sTech I meant better in terms of temperatures, in terms of performance yeah the GE66 has slightly better single core performance while the Mech G3 has slightly better multicore, but it’s so minor it could be silicon lottery in both cases. The i9 seems to be a waste though, i7-10875 for $200 less ($2799) seems to be just as good performing.
Mech's GPU runs at 115W, in the ge66 the GPU runs at 90W and only in silent at 105W. So considering this i would say that they are close olso on the GPU side: if the gpu of the ge66 ran at 115W temperature would be closer to the Mech 15 G3 ones. I suppose
Gotta love MSI silent modes.. they actually have genuinely quiet decent FPS performance.. The reason is they have their cpu at 2.8ghz (for example in this case) where as other manufacturers way overdo the power limiting in quiet mode.. that said, i am disappointed in all core turbo and honestly would only start o consider MSI again if they brought back g sync. I can't even fathom losing g sync now after using it for just 4 months.
@@JarrodsTech wait, the Raider doesn't have a TB3 port?? I mean it hardly matters much(especially to gamers) but how much extra would it have cost anyways.
Hey. I really like your videos. Cool out. Now I have a question for you as a professional. I bought an Asus SCAR 17 10980hk 2080 super 2TB 32GB laptop. The fact is that there is a game that supports only one core (old game) and I would like to put it at 5.3 on a permanent basis for 1 core (or several). Could you help me figure out on Discord how to do this or what you can think of? thanks for the answer
I think the light bar is well done. I mean I wouldn’t put a lot of pressure on it but it seems to be a non issue. There’s a slight gap where the chassis meets the LED strip though and fine particles can get inside.
Last time I was this early, everyone thought a third world war has started. Edit: The thermals seem a little better than my MSI GS66. It gets really hot without undervolting. I wish I knew about ge66 before getting the gs66😔
I'm curious to know your experience. Were the wrist wrests close to unbearable when hitting it consistently with extended loads? What config did you get?
Better to watch a tutorial/walkthrough of undervolting going over all the settings & what each one means. OR I'd advise you do some research first & try it in Intel XTU & then later apply those in the BIOS.
What laptop would you consider to be the most powerful overall? I'm fairly new to the laptop scene, and I'd like something powerful for gaming and making music.
Don’t know if it’s just me or if it’s good but I just prefer knowing Thermal testing than Gaming benchmarks, I guess it all boils down to knowing the thermals and it’s clock speeds. And oh, so it gets a bit hot, but I think it’s fine.
Hey man nice vedio 👍. As u know there is lot of mess about the amd and nvidia on net. Big navi and ampere rtx 30xx series. Whats ur take over on this . Can we get a vedio on it.
@Jarrod's Tech , The bios is the same for the 10750H and the 10875H, to be able to apply the undervoltage and adjust the thermal values? (Exj: 95 > 90ºC).
With the new omen 166ti Could you do a video on how to maximise performance such as setting high power mode as it doesn't come with it and other things to maximise fps?
Thank you for the review Jarrod. Do you think there will be much difference with the 2070 Super Max P model? Can the higher wattage help achieve a similar performance to this?
I’m getting 19,400 on Firestrike overall and 23,180 graphics scores. This is with a +160/+500 overclock on the GPU and a -.090 undervolt. That’s better than most 10980HK 2080 Super Max-Q GE66’s stock.
Wanted to get this one really bad but only the one with the RTX 2070 Super is available in my country No news of RTX 2080 Super Max Q as of now.😷 The Legion 7i is available with the RTX 2080 Max Q and it's cheaper by around 350$ I think I'll get that instead, only worried about the performance as I'm seeing that MSI GE66's RTX 2080 S runs faster than the Lenovo's for some reason.
Hey jarrod I’m looking at the Predator Helios 300 2020, and I’m probably going to hook it up to a monitor do you have any ideas of a good monitor for it. Nice vid btw
Jarrod, do you think if we game in high + ultra settings keeping Ambient Occlusion, shadow quality, water quality etc either turned off or at medium then can the legion 7i perform better and be cooler than 95c. I checked a lot of reviews on msi gs, ge where during gaming at the highest settings the temp did spiked up to 97c. I feel like every laptop with i7 10875H is suffering from this thermal issue
My blade pro 2020 got better Temperatures and no throttling At all and the 2080 super maxq boost around 1800-1900mhz and CPU is also at all cores over 4.5GHz using up to 75w, 200fps average in pubg is fucking awesome
I really wanted to get this laptop but sadly it is around 20k in my country even though we make same money as people in usa. I bought msi gl65 for 11k money which is insane when you think it is just 1k or 1.5k dollars in usa.
Awesome video! I have the 6 core 2070 Super and it does indeed run cooler on the CPU. How did you update your GE66 to Nvidia driver 451.67? I can’t update to any of the recently released drivers. GeForce experience doesn’t pull anything up. Were you able to pull it from Nvidia’s website directly?
when i was gaming, cpu/gpu were cool enough, around ~70c(i live in the hot part of asia), but the whole chassis got too hot, cant even keep my finger on the upper part of the keyboard
I personally love my G14 because it’s very portable, has great battery life, and is a wonderful “do everything” laptop, but if you need the extra power from the 2070 and don’t mind the larger size and won’t use it on battery very much, then the 7i is a great laptop too. Just depends on your use case. I got the G14 personally because I’m in college and wanted something easy to carry and that still had power. If it’s gonna mostly sit on your desk though I’d say the 7i would be better.
i wanted to buy this laptop so bad but now i decided to build a mini pc with 240hz portable monitor and rtx 2070 super desktop which is better than even 2080s max q a mouse, keyboard everything for 2500$ and still can curry my system in my backpack and not forget to mention the abililty for me to upgrade anything i want in the system
I have the same pc, should I keep overclocking on forever? Or should I turn it off and let my pc rest for a while? How high should I set my core clock offset or VRAM clock offset? That’s in the dragon center. Please help I don’t know if I should overclock my pc
I have a question, I’m going to college soon and I want to get a laptop that has good battery life and can handle some light gaming. These are the 2 laptops I am having a hard time to choose from MSI GS65 Stealth and the Samsung Galaxy Book Ion 15.6 inch. I know the MSI GS65 has great gaming and not the best battery life but the Samsung has great battery and I haven’t seen any reviews on it for some reason. Can you help me out with this? One more thing I’m very picky and I just want a nice light laptop that looks very clean if you were to recommend me one and I don’t want a gamery keyboard either. Thank you for all the reviews you do! (This comment is copied from you other recent video so if you see it again and already answered me just ignore the other ones)
performance is similar, like the guy above said the 2070S only about 10% behind. But another thing to take into account is that the 2080S Max-Q, as you can see on this video, only consumes 90W while gaming. Meanwhile 2070S (and 2070 too) will need 115W to fully utilize their power. That 15W less power consumption means lower GPU temp and a bit more power for the hungry 10th gen CPU (very helpful if you go with a 8 core one, like i7-10875H or i9-10980HK).
@@ucle9955 undervolting the GPU can leave some more room for the CPU, and you can also undervolt the CPU & apply liquid metal. GPU temps are well within check
@@sushimshah2896 I mean... everything you mention can be applied to the top specs version too. But yeah, at 8-900$ more it doesn't really justify the purchase. I just want to point out there are some (small) advantages though.
@@ucle9955 yeah, I also meant the same thing. Especially the i9 isn't really worth it. The only problem right now is the lack of greater than RTX2060 GPUs paired with Ryzen. Otherwise, even a R7/9 with a RTX 2060 is about on par/greater with these expensive machines with i9 & RTX-2080S max-q in most productivity applications apart from a few which are optimised more for CUDA like Adobe
